Not quite as smooth IMHO. Maybe a hint of something as a slight aftertaste- cinnamon maybe.

My default bourbon is Maker's Mark. I find that I like most quality bourbons.

For scotch, it's The Balvenie. The high-end blended Johnnie Walker's are nice, but I can't afford to drink them or many of the older high-end single malts.

Do we need another thread to discuss how Jack Daniels is not bourbon?

I only tried Buffalo Trace based off of your recommendation.

All this talk about whisky prompted me to go pick up some Colorado Crown, and apparently I'm not the only one loving it, tried 4 different stores and they are all sold out!

I'm not much of a drinker at all anymore, and certainly not a whiskey conniseur. But I've read some reviews about Stranahan's being good stuff, and I have a strange desire to try some.....worth the effort/cost or not? I'd probably only need one drink on the rocks at some bar to satisfy my curiosity. One drink will do me for a year or more. Unless we're talking margaritas or gin & tonic.....but even those are very rare.

Well I wimped out and picked up my triannual 1.75L bottle of Maker's today instead of trying the Buffalo Trace (but this is mostly because they didn't have the 1.75L size bottles at the liquor store, only the 750ml size). Maybe I'll look around this spring for the big bottle of BT.

It doesn't really help since you're in Parker, but the Glenn up here in Northglenn keeps Stranahan's in stock, and that's where I get my fix.

If you find a bar to pour you one on the rocks it might be worth it to try that way. But at 60 a bottle it'd be a huge waste if you didn't like it. I think it's decent, but it isn't 60 a bottle good. I'd rather get a 10 or 12+ year scotch with that kind of money. Or 4 bottles of a Canadian whiskey to mix with ginger ale or Sprite.

    Rondog,

Check out the tour of the production facility at Stranahan's...it's free and there's a tasting after the tour. You can sign up at their website.
