Interesting story, a friend of mine in New Orleans during the aftermath of Katrina put together a neighborhood program to defend against intruders. They parked cars at the ends of the streets to prevent people driving up and discourage people from walking in. The took turns guarding the streets in small armed groups around the clock sitting in lawn chairs inside the perimeter. When the national guard was going virtually door to door confiscating weapons they just drove by saw what they were doing, waved and left them alone with arms.

I would hope that scenario could work here to avoid conflict with authorities in the event of a declared martial law scenario after a disaster or unrest.
