    Default 7lbs, 8oz

Went hunting pigs this spring and we were doing a long walk/spot and stalk across a big Texas field. Everyone else had AR10 variants, except for my 6.8 AR. By the end of the walk, everyone else was like "holy shit, these things are heavy (they were all over 10lbs, like most) and my little 6.8 I was looking like a genius.

so, decided to build me a .308 AR but get it as lightweight as possible.

7lbs 8oz (without optics) is the results. I'm pretty damn pleased.

    the specs:

2A arms lower and upper set. (they build some amazingly lightweight lowers and uppers for all sizes)
18" chrome moly McGowan fluted barrel
    AAC flash hider
    Magpul CTR stock
    Gisselle SSA trigger
Midwest Ind hand guard (whenever 2A comes out with a m-lok front we'll replace it with that.)
    MOE plus grip
JP Enterprises lo mass enhanced bolt and carrier (it is really light, way lighter than the wife's AR)
JP tuned buffer spring (to run the low mass bolt)

Test run soon, I'm very pleased, it's much more handleable than you would expect.

    Congratulations!

I hope builder and shooter are both recovering nicely.

    Have you named her yet?

I'm going to call a technical foul. (Just busting your chops for fun )

You could have saved a little more weight here and there if you wanted so technically you didn't build it "as lightweight as possible."

Oh, and where are the pictures?

pictures coming, the current CTR is an extra so it doesn't match. And we all know how everyone gets upset when the socks don't match.

I don't think I could have gotten much lighter. The 2A lowers actually have stuff cut out of them, even in the trigger guard for example. Maybe by going with a 16" barrel, but everyone (and I mean everyone) said go with 18" for .308
    So i did.

I just checked a LWRC Razorback 6.8 I have sitting around. (although it does have a little scope on it) and it weighs 8.5lbs!!!!!!!
yeah, it's actually lighter than the that 6.8.

I would be willing to look at pictures even with a mismatched stock. But I'm a sucker for things that just don't quite match. Pretty sure someone here has an AR that is about four or five different shades of FDE that I think looks pretty awesome.

Yeah, personally I wouldn't have gone shorter than an 18" barrel in .308. But the 16" would have saved a few ounces. That AAC flash hider is fairly heavy too. Unless I needed it to run a suppressor, I'd do something like a standard A2 style or maybe a PWS Triad and save a tiny bit more weight. All of the Magpul stocks are a bit heavy in my opinion. A different stock would save another couple ounces.

Still pretty lightweight though. I probably have 5.56 rifles that weigh more than that. Lol.

well, the AAC flash hider is going on all the rifles so I can run the suppressor (which is stuck in ATF land for now), so that was must have.

the CTR is magpul's lightest stock (of the cool ones)

the wife found some MBUS pro sights floating around, so off to the range tomorrow
and yeah, i'll take some pics

Wow that is a nice setup. I put together an Aero .308 setup with an 18" barrel and it is a pig - pun intended. Not sure if I am going to keep it though as lugging it around is no fun, just like you buddies said.
Now for the important question - how many hogs did you get?

Is that weight with or without the mag?
