Well, I guess I have a completely different take on this.

I'm pretty good with a rifle and a handgun and I don't wanna get into a gunfight with anyone. Ever. Would I, if forced to do so? Of course. But I don't look forward to that ever happening. Just like I don't wish for the zombie apocalypse or other type of societal collapse. I'm not worried so much about me getting caught up in it as I am those I care about.

+1 on that. Same reason I work out (aside from health): in order to be better than a potential opponent. But frankly, I have no desire to get into a fist fight or any physical altercation. All it takes it one punch to the right spot and falling down and hitting one's head on a curb, etc., and you're done.

I've seen firsthand what happens when a society collapses and it's not pretty.

    However, addendum, caveat...

Just take a look at Argentina right now. Because socialism works so well.

...and don't forget about Cuba and how much progress they've made under socialism.

I'm confident that this is the stance of the majority of the members here. We're ready and willing, but not looking for a fight. As a poor paraphrase of Grossman, one of the biggest assets to an armed community is that those who engage in training for righteous (read self defense and preservation of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness) have a longing to exercise their force in an appropriate manner, but keep the aggression sheathed until necessary. That time may sadly becoming more of a reality.

On the flip side, though use of force may be righteous, just remember that a "booger-eater with an unzeroed AK, who doesn't know the difference between line of sight & line of bore"
has the same ability to kill you as someone who is well trained. Thanks Paul Howe!
