Not a big fan of the 10mm, but just to play devil's advocate, if the grip size increase doesn't bug you vs. a .40 frame you can handload a significantly bigger range of ammo - plinkers to bigger boomers.
But if that's your goal, you can do a much larger range with a .44mag.![]()
It's a true story.

10mm is increasing in popularity. I have been a fan for 30 years and I have several of them. G20SF, Razorback, 610 and a DI PCC.
I think the wane in .40 is due to several factors that are increasing the 9mm appeal. LE going back to 9mm, Production and Carry Optics in USPSA, better defense offerings in 9mm, more women shooting, old farts who have been "anything is fine as long as it starts with a .4" getting arthritis, or dying. The wane in the .40 appeal as well as some Eastern states loosening up caliber restrictions leads to some increase in appeal of the 10mm. Also, guys like Mike McNett and Razor Dobbs have been heard from more recently regarding their love of the cartridge.
Another reason is that some handguns available in .40 top out at 15 rounds naturally, where 9mm handguns are neutered down by Democrat legislators. If I was limited to 10 rounds, I'd get a bigger hand cannon so each of those rounds count more.
Now that I'm in a free state, I guess I could look at going to 9mm... but I already have guns in .40, and reloading dies are same as 10mm... and when a Dimotwit is in the white house again .40s&w will be the last one still left on the shelf.
