I 'll pass it along. I do know a few professionals. Known some since before they could drive.

I have experienced that 9 out 10 doctors are undereducated. I was poisoned by beryllium and 9 out of 10 couldn't spell it. Make sure that what you think is psychiatric, isn't a physical disease. On the other hand, maybe all she needs is a nice vacation to a warm place.

I need a vacation to a warm place, where a doctor will actually prescribe what I need. VA & military doctors are idiots.

Anti-Seizure meds make ya crazy too. Each person is different and how they react or not to any of these medications. Trial and error basically.

The V.A isn't any worse or better (in general) than any other "medical professional" The only way to get an honest 2nd opinion is go out of network. If not all the second opinion is doing is fellating the previous dr.'s opinion

Unfortunately a Dr's or other treating's suggestion is to write a script for something more addictive than what they wrote you for before that .

The VA is worse! They surgically lobotomised 4500 veterans after World War 2. I don't think the military lobotomised any patients.
I hate doctors that just throw pills at patients without doing all the necessary tests. Big pharma is a big scam.
As for the OP's significant others Dx(diagnosis), I would make sure a Vitamin D test is measured. Low vitamin D can cause depressive symptoms. A 25-hydroxy vitamin D blood test. A level of 20 nanograms/milliliter to 50 ng/mL is considered adequate for healthy people. A level less than 12 ng/mL indicates vitamin D deficiency.

In fact I am going to take Vitamin D gel cap right now...

If anyone is interested in a first hand account of mental illness and seeking treatment, "Noonday Demon" is a good read. Better in audio book, the author narrates.

Mental illness and psychotropics make for an unpredictable frontier.

It's certainly a real thing. That said there are a lot of meds and a lot of different conditions. It's tough to make a blanket statement.

Anti depressants by design alter the way your brain works. It's been known to cause people to change how they behave in other ways, too, like rationalizing in a way they historically would not.
