I?m guessing we?ll see bigger numbers over the next couple of months.
Let?s go Brandon will probably pat himself on the back for all of the jobs he created once the number of openings are through the roof.

There's a cheery thought...

Oh, let's go Brandon is going to save us all from "something called the supply chain". He's negotiated the ports opening 24hr/day and allowing truckers to drive at night (don't they already?).
Dumb dumb doesn't even realize the problem isn't amount of hours operating, it's lack of workers. I don't think it's occurred to the commies that forcing people to quit is bad for the economy and country as a whole.
IMO those numbers seem to be divided up by 3 groups.
#1 those who believe their $3. per hour work ethic, is worth $15-$20 per hr, living wage
# 2 those who are not falling in line with wearing mask and or vaccinations.
# 3 those who are just plain fukin lazy (stoners and freeloaders) Who make bank on a daily basis, in cash.

"when you're happy you enjoy the melody but, when you're broken you understand the lyrics".
Or the people doing $40 an hour work but only making $20 an hour who are realizing they should be paid more or maybe realizing they can make that $20 an hour doing a less stressful job or maybe freeing up some time to actually enjoy life outside of work.
I read an article recently and it isn?t just the losers and minimum wage people leaving their jobs. Well paid people who have been at their job for many years are up and quitting as they are realizing how much more they can enjoy life when they aren?t working all the time.
There are people who have been working from home for a year plus and suddenly you are asking them to commute back and forth to an office again when they can successfully work from home and I think some of them are opting out in search of a job that lets them work remotely full time.
We are in a time of great resignation.
True. if they have been capable of working from home. Why the need to return to the office? The work from home was a "solution" to prevent the virus. Which we see how well that worked out. Anywhay why the need to get vaxxed and mask up. When the only one you're dealing with is who ever lives at home.

I have been WFH before it was cool

Doubtful that I would ever take a job where I had to commute again.....

I don't care who jared shultz mandates, but his husband might
One of my closest friends and groomsman, just quit his job in September for the reasons Ray pointed out...albeit skewed up a bit higher. He's always made $80K+ but his wife is the real breadwinner, and they've always lived well below their means. After dealing with a lot of heightened stresses at work the last two years, largely due to covid, he just opted to quit... cold turkey. They're totally fine financially for years, perhaps indefinitely if they downsize and cut costs, I'm not really sure, but he knows he was "over it" and wants to enjoy life more.

The company I work for tried to send a department back to the office. When about 30% of them started putting in applications elsewhere, they quickly did an about face.
My department will let me work anywhere in our division (west of the Mississippi, except California.
Just the savings in building overhead has to be incredible. What you might lose in productivity is gained back by not having to supply coffee, pay water bills, lease the structure, having to pay someone to clean bathrooms, stock TP, etc
