    Default Tanner Gun Show

I have been creeping around this Fourm for a long time, and have loved learning and meeting a lot of you. I don't often post in the GD and haven't Rant in a long time. So here it goes.
    Rant
Disappointed in the Tanner Gun Show. This morning I thought I would take my son to a gun show. It is something I did with my father and thought it would be cool to do with my son. Last gun show I went to was back in 2007ish at the Phill long center. Today at the door i was asked if I was Carrying? I said yes i have a CCW. The nice lady at the door said I would need to check the firearm. The Security guard asked if i was carrying. Yes he said I would have to check the pistol and retrieve it when I left the Show. I told him No thank you and turned around and left.
I'm Disappointed that an event like this would take away someone right to self-defenses. Like all the other companies and venues that take rights away from law abiding citizens to self-defend, I will not support. Best of luck to Tanner Gun show.

    #1 - Was there a metal detector?

#2 - Tanner has had more than one negligent discharge inside the show, so I'm not surprised by their policy. One happened while I was there and that was one too many for me. I've never gone back, never will.

“Just say no.” I learned that answer from the DARE program in elementary school.

There is definitely support for your position - and there is also support for the industry position in the unique circumstance.

There has been more than one occasion where someone has been shot in a colorado gunshow, because select people are 1) unsafe and 2) examining loaded weapons.

Now, a CCW has about a 0.000% chance of pulling out their pistol at a grocery store and showing their friend the gun they just bought.

But at a gunshow, there's again, a select group of people that have a rather high percentage of doing just that.

There is not a definitive way to know which people don't follow the basic firearm safety rules at the door. And as a patron or potential patron, I have to wonder what the risk probability is between:
    a) someone trying to shoot up a gunshow and I don't have my CCW
vs b) Someone is showing their gun to a buddy and they pull the trigger on a loaded gun because they have shitforbrains.

I'm pretty sure the risk of b) is much, much higher, as mass shooters normally go for soft targets. There's been a historical attempt or two at actual police stations, vs hundreds of attempts at places that are guaranteed to not have weapons. A gunshow, even if they ask CCW to be checked, nobody is going to believe there aren't loaded weapons there, they are just being carried by responsible people who will neither admit to carrying them and also won't dig them out to show their buddy either. Maybe that is a win/win. People still carry, but the select idiots won't whip them out.

I wonder how the odds of this ^ compare with the odds of the same shit for brains doing the EXACT same thing when asked to remove, (clear?) and check-in his CCW?

I think there’s been a “no carry” policy at all the local shows for quite a while. I don’t recall ever being specifically asked about it though.

One time I took my CCW to a show, I took the mag out, cleared the chamber before the entry, then checked it like any other firearm carried in: zip tied and stickered. No checking it in then retrieving later, it was with me the whole time.

When I went to school there were cops with M-16's, I even saw a few .50's mounted. We never had DARE. We didn't have any shootings I can remember. Too bad Tanner has a no CCW policy. I went to one once. Didn't buy anything.

Same down here in AZ. I didn't pay attention to it last show i worked. I noticed a lot of open carry guns had no mags in them. Inquired why that was and was told, Oh it's the policy of the arena.
OOPS good thing concealed, means concealed.
