I have a 2002 Wrangler that needs emissions every 5 years now I guess. Last summer I went in to the test center in Boulder and even though my Jeep shows a check engine light which corresponds to the emissions sensors I still passed. The guys at the test station just shrugged it off.

Yes- I just confirmed a few days ago that vehicles older than 8 years can pass with a check engine light showing if the actual emissions are still OK.

So are emission tests required for gassers outside the metro area? I thought it was just diesel that had a no emission zone.

In Weld we never needed any smog testing. Gas or diesel.

    ^^^^same for Elbert county^^^^
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

I don't really have an option to register in another county. PO box requires residence in the county. I have until the end of April so will see what I come up with. The emission 5 years ago were close. Just wanted to see what other options I had.

The current emissions inspection program began in 1995 and applies to most vehicles and locales in the Denver-metropolitan area and the North Front Range of the state

    From DMV website.

Clear Creek county doesn't test emissions. I don't know how you could register it in a county where you don't live though.

Solid advice. I'm doing it next time I need to smog my 93 5.0. They struggled with the shifting and drove it for 10, had to restart the IM240 machine drove it another 20 minutes. The fuel gauge moved more than you think.
