I encourage everyone to try to buy from a local dealer if possible. I used Gun Genie to order a firearm and used a local dealer for the entire transaction. The dealer got to buy the gun at wholesale and sold it to me for less than MSRP. I did have to pay sales tax, but I helping to keep my dealer in business. After all, if you want to touch it and feel it before you buy, that is what the dealers are for.
But I know that sometimes you have to do a transfer for what ever reason. I like TJ's Gunsmithing in Aurora.
I like those thoughts on the dealer thing, but it jolts the senses to read some of these comments coming from some names that I've seen here for so long. It somehow doesn't match-up with what's been established in my mind's eye.
As far as any less attractive aspects of business(s) are concerned, I, like most here could probably offer up individuals who would win that category handily over the dealer "hardships" being outlined here. Especially considering what (and how much) they have to put up with every day. All would go far beyond the occasional inventory, paperwork or personality duties and concerns.
I would guess for every soul that doesn't dig doing the whole FFL/transfer thing, there would be at least two others lining up to fill the void if the need were strong enough. I would go further and believe that most of those would be of the type that the OP is searching for anyway.
I'd go with Bill Stark.
He's nice, and doesn't charge much.
9mm - because they don't make a 9.1mm
I didn't know my opinion could be changed so drastically in just one thread.
Alpha Pawn in Englewood is great. I have done several transfers there. They are really friendly and appreciate your business. I know some of the local Police Departments use them also. They are on South Broadway just south of Hampden.(285)

I think it is very important to build a relationship with your FFL. I guess if you are only going to do a couple (yea, right) then looking for the cheapest might be the way to go.
I am also reminded by the many true stories about FFL's that do not know a particular firearm and it's quirks. That one can and has got ugly quick.
I like my FFL and the staff. I can order something and have it sent. They know the ins and out of some of the toys I like and do not freak out when the selector goes to "auto".
Though I have not dealt with the FFL's in this thread I do understand there issues.
Sometimes the newer guys need to realize that buying a gun is not like Burger King. There is no drive through and you can't have it your way.
The flip side is that the FFL's stop doing transfers and one is left with nothing but retail. Just some thoughts.![]()
