A universal cat from Checker (or Orielley's I suppose they call it now) is somewhere around $80 or so. If the one from my truck works you can just have it.
I could weld it on for you for a few slices of pizza...

    Yards can't sell converters.

Just go to the local Walmart. Cruise the lot until you find a suitable donor. 3 minutes with a sawzall. Problem solved.

That cat is in a pain in the butt spot to replace, Ive done a few, ick. Here's the million dollar question, did your mechanic determine what made the cat fail? Is it plugged up or is it setting a P0420 cat efficiency code? P420 means its not working as designed anymore, but may not be plugged. Plugged, is well, the opposite of a japanese powerplant. If it is plugged, what made it do that, was running bad, etc? What I'm getting at is, they dont just plug up, it has recently in the past, or is recently dumping too much fuel down the exhaust, and melting it down. If the problem isnt corrected, youll toast the new cat as well, and every one u put on until its fixed.

Heavy back pressure into engine and even into intake under acceleration above 20mph.

This all occurred after the MAF Sensor initially failed, was replaced. All codes cleared for a very short time(2 days)... then the back pressure/No Acceleration thing started.

as I understand it, 1999+ Blazers have an issue with this.
I don't know for sure. we will see.

I would hate to see you go to prison. Just don't get caught. BTW prison does have free internet.

MAF may have caused the meltdown, sounds liked a wasted cat. Fuel pressure regulators and injector problems have plagued the 4.3Ls since they left throttlebody injection. I'd make sure there isnt any fuel pressure bleed down after engine shutdown to be safe.
