Sorry to hear it. Although yours isnt the first Ruger AR I have heard being a lemon.
Let's not lump ALL pistons into that sarcastic category. I've had a piston LMT that has yet to give me a single problem in the years I've had it. Eats whatever I feed it like a champ. One faulty unit or manufacturer does not a faulty system-type make.

I can't speak for this Ruger SR556 specifically however.

Just picked up SR556 from my FFL.
I can't wait to shoot this thing. It is my first pistol AR.
Will post pictures fairly soon on purchase thread.

I have shot one with about 500 rounds. It worked great and it was pimped with a eotech with 4x magnifier, only thing I didn't like was the wieght close to 10 pounds. But my freind says he has no issues except 2 steel "herters" cartridges stuck in the chamber and he says he has about 3000 rounds down the tube so far, maybe he got a good one. I've also shot the same batch of herters out of my bcm with the same problem.

Oh, and it was designed that way.

You are all entitled to your opinions, but my SR556 is my go to AR.

    True, true
moved from my AR to the sig 556, the sig was based on the AK, so it runs anything you feed it with AR accuracy
