So if I don't drink. Which one should I start with? (Whiskey - or something else?)

I stick to Buffalo Trace and Bulleit.
When I lived in Bardstown, we used to drive out to Bullit county and buy a keg of whiskey, mix it with Mountain dew and get (***** ******-***** ****) drunk.

There are establishments that will occasionally do whiskey tasting and education sessions. Up here in Ft. Collins, Wilbur's Total Beverage work with various restaurants, brewers, wineries and distillers and have "guided" tasting and spirit educational events. Finding a place near you that hosts these events will go a long way to helping you to start out the right way for finding the taste that you like.

Bulleit and when a bottle can be had Alberta Premium(only available in Canada), prefer Rye whiskey over Corn.

Well technically my favorite is scotch.
Glenlivet 18 yr, french oak . MMMMMMMMMMMM.

as for regular whiskey, I like Knob Creek the best.

Good thing you aren't most people.

Stanahan's=Diesel fuel. Never understood the allure. Plus they were bought out by Proximo Beverage, a NY company.

    Top of the list:

    Whiskey
    Knob Creek
    Buffalo Trace
    Old Crow
    Jameson

    Whisky
    Dewars
    Balvenie 10yr

Basil is a favorite of mine.
Van winkle is also one I keep a few bottles of.
Those of you who have had Stranahans. The pre sellout were very good. Almost scotch like. The new stuff would be good for degreasing...
