From their FB page two hours ago...Colorado Bureau of Investigation

CBI InstaCheck completed 1,274 background checks for firearms purchases on Friday. Currently working on checks submitted on 12/21/12.

I was under the impression that CBI could do about 2,000 checks per day even before the recently expanded business hours. So why did they complete "only" 1,274?

Maybe some take longer? You know, the John Smith's of the world take a little longer to research than the Ivan Jachovaloski's of the world.

Prior to this, they rarely had to process more than 1000 in a day. The volume they are seeing is unprecedented. In October they processed a total of 28000.

assuming they are working 18 hours a day, that equates to almost 71/hr or just over 1/minute thats not to bad for a gov. operation IMHO.

If they made a Social Security Number MANDATORY or at least REALLY REALLY suggested it... Check times would go down... Like the other guy said.... John Smith is a bastard to do a background check on.

Why does someone with a concealed carry permit even need to get a background check? That person has already been thouroughly vetted by the authorities. Seems to me they could streemline the system if they cut out the redundant checks on those folks.
