I personally wouldn't go as far to say that Black Hawk Down goes into even my top 20... don't get me wrong, it's a well made film and I really liked it, but I read the book first and served with a couple of guys who were there (one with the 10th the other with 75th Rangers) and they both said that the movie made some very inexcusable mistakes... 1) They portrayed the Rangers to be like ordinary infantry, 2) They made it look like the UN (Pakistan) saved them in the morning when in reality it was mostly the 10th Mountain boys that saved the day. Plus the movie didn't really stay all that true to history. But I still think it's an overall great movie.

We watched THIS over the weekend in honor of Memorial Day ... was excellent.
(yeah, I know it's not out on DVD yet ... no I'm not going to explain how torrents work).
I just can't watch Saving Private Ryan anymore ... Tom Hanks has come out as too much of a libtard douche lately for me to watch anything with him in it and NOT see yet another enemy of America profiting off of the patriotism of good Americans (and Matt Damon ain't much better).
As for Black Hawk Down, the book was a lot better (they combined several of the characters from the book into single characters in the movie ... I understand why they did it from a movie making standpoint, but it still made the book better and truer. Also should read Killing Pablo by the same author).

Went and saw MIB III yesterday. It was decent; not as good as the first and second, but I enjoyed it

[Beer]Torrents FTW! Thanks for reminding me! Is there a good DVD quality copy available yet?
Phuck the libdouches that make war movies and support the troops then support some asshat that turns around and disrespects the troops (talking about OBL and Obama taking credit)... I heard a rumor they're wanting to make a movie out of Killing Pablo, that's one of my favorite books... Oh I'm crossing my fingers!

The one I got was a standard def Blu-Ray Rip. Looked as good as DVD if not better. I think there are some HD Blu-Ray Rips out there but since my LaCinema (http://www.lacie.com/products/range.htm?id=10049)device doesn't play HD (its old ... I need to replace it. Although if I can get a Plex server to play the full HD MKV files through my Roku boxes that would be cool too) I just stick with SD stuff.
Rumors about a Killing Pablo movie range from "its being made" to "the project is dead". Would love to see it as a movie as well.
History Channel did a show on the book though. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365866/)

You all seen "Severe Clear" on Netflix? Man war is hell.
"War of the Arrows"
Foreign film (I think Korean), but was great. Very much enjoyed that film and would even watch it again (which I don't do that often).
It's available on Netflix if anyone subscribes...

It says on the cover its the best zombie move of the year. It was pretty good and as far as the gun stuff goes pretty right on. The only corny part was at the very end. It is one of those movies I will watch several times.

i watched this yesterday. its not worth buying i dont think, but a good zombie movie.
it didn't waste half the movie creating a scenario where zombies are created then spread. the movie just starts in a world with zombies. i enjoyed that for once, but the problem with a story in africa is there is no places for action other than desert/plains.

There is talk of a 4th, but they want to be very careful not to do the "Spiderman thing"- meaning no more reboots, more like an evolution or expansion but LeBouf will not be back. I'd personally like to see Unicron in a sequel. If anyone remembers back in the day they made a movie out of the cartoon and the villain was a planet sized transformer that ate other planets... That would probably leave them no where to go after that though.

Maybe they could deviate from the 1985 plot a bit... besides, no one wants to see the same movie twice just in a different decade... right? (insert sarcasm where you think it fits best).

I just dont think there is enough to put together a good plot. It was ok ok as a cartoon, but I dont think that a 40k lb robot pretending to be a gorilla would work too well.

In other news... the extras on the Act Of Valor Blu Ray are pretty neat, well most of them, including the making of, are pretty much just promos for the movie, but the interviews with the SEAL/Actors is pretty cool. [AR15]

Just watched "Safe House" last night, with Denzel and Ryan Reynolds. Pretty good movie, not at all what I was expecting, but I've yet to see a Denzel movie I didn't like... Although my favorite of his is The Siege.

Saw a few over the weekend:
I agree with Ronin (for once) Safe House was pretty entertaining, reminiscent of a Bourne movie.
Machine-Gun Preacher was better than I expected. I didn't realize before I started it that it's a true story.
This Means War was a little cheesy at times, but very entertaining. I think they were trying to make something with elements of a good action movie and a chick flick - they did a pretty good job of it.
Chronicle sucked donkey balls. Imagine combining the premise of Heroes with the cinematography of Cloverfield, and then letting a teenager write and direct it. [Barf]

Its a great movie for everyone... but for anyone taking classes right now, go watch it and live vicariously through the main character absolutely OWNING the douchey teacher... classic.
Just saw Poppers Penguins with Jim Carey.
I feel bad for Carey. He used to star in awesome blockbusters like Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. Now he is appearing in dumb movies about animals.

Totally worth the pain of getting to that theatre...

Not sure if they've been mentioned but these two are pretty good:
Dust to Glory (phenomenal aerial footage of the motorcycle class in the Baja 1000). This movie was done by Dana Brown, son of Bruce Brown who did The Endless Summer. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B6N-jXoFvM
Worlds Fastest Indian (land speed record at Bonneville), Anthony Hopkins is the main star.

The thing that is rather amazing about both these movies is that they are entertaining even to those who have never had much interest in the sport.

Also, last night went and saw Prometheus, really a great movie, well done by the Alien director Ridley Scott, it's a prequel of sorts but great standalone flick too. Lots of tie ins to the Alien series with Wayland Corp and other stuff I won't say. Definitely worth the price of admission. [Beer]

Just FYI, not sure if they're completely out of ideas or what, but they're making a Fast and Furious 6, Ice Age 24 (or whatever number it is) comes out this week, yet ANOTHER Resident Evil comes out later this year, a remake of Judge Dredd (remember that POS Stallone movie?), ANOTHER Paranormal Activity (#4 I think, not sure, I never saw any of the previous), and you guys remember Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider? Well that book series/movie series is having another film added where Morgan Freeman's character is being played by Tyler Perry (gag me). Also, to make matters so much worse for Hollyweird's credibility- they're making a 5th Scary Movie and that terrible "push my morals on you" author Stephanie Meyer is having another one of her stupid books made into a movie "The Host" which is the book she wrote after her silly sparkly vampire series... maybe the Mayans were right!

Lockout was silly but fun ... I enjoyed it. Little bit of Escape from New York with a little bit of Die Hard (and then a touch of Star Wars at the end).

Red: Man, I'm just into Buddhism, and I'm at peace with the fact that me, as this person, probably gonna not be around. Think about a hermit crab, okay? And it's a shell. It's like, they go from one shell to the next. And that's what I am. I'm just a hermit crab changin' shells.
Dale Denton: Except if you're a dick your whole life, your next shell will be made of shit, okay? If you're an asshole, you're gonna come back as a cockroach or a worm or a fuckin' anal bead, okay? If you're a man and you act heroic, you'll come back as an eagle. You'll come back as a dragon. You'll come back as Jude Law, okay? Which would you rather be?
Red: Maybe the anal bead, depending on who it belongs to.
Dale Denton: Belongs to me.
Red: Then the dragon.
Red: You don't think I can handle danger?
Dale Denton: What are you talking about?
Saul: You can.
Red: I totally can. And for you to come into my house and not tell secrets because you think you're saving me, well, in reality it just makes you look like a dumbass, cause look at this.

A town smaller than Fargo?
All you ever see is a grain leg, a mechanic shop, bar, and diner, so yeah. For such a tiny town it has more hot chicks than I usually see in towns like that. 2 when the number is usually 0.

Total Recall was stellar.
The action was the best I've seen in a long time.
I've never so badly wanted a female to beat me up with her crotch as I did while watching the movie last night. My wife agreed.
(watch the movie, you'll understand)
Seriously though, it was a stand alone movie. Less of a remake, more of a re-imagining. For a movie that relied so heavily on GGI, the physical action sequences were almost entirely real, and I was pleasantly surprised.
And holy crap... Kate Beckinsale is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO fine. And a total bad a**.
I went to see this last night (oh yea, I was carrying a P7 PSP...it caused no panic, and I didn't shoot anyone)

It wasn't nearly as good as the other Bourne movies. It dragged along. There was a 15 minute motorcycle chase through the streets of Malta that could have been 2 minutes. My wife after about an hour asked if we "had to stay"
It wasn't nearly as good as the other Bourne movies.
Agreed, I felt like I wasted my money on that one.

Dont pay extra to see anything spectacular.
Plot was more suited for an October release.
Oh, Spoiler! The fat kids brother, the muscle bound guy with no interest in the wide hipped sister, WAS GAY!
Another Gay character slipped in to give the impression Homosexuality is OK![Rant1]
Dont waste your time on this film.
Redtails was a good WW2 movie. Too bad Lucas didn't remake Boyington's Black Sheep, per the REAL Pappy. It would also have been 'multicultural' as Pappy was part American Indian. Lucas lost $ or just broke even on it, too bad, now NO ONE will do a decent WW2 Pacific movie! Putting White men in the role of Hero is taboo in Jollywood anyway.

Watched (most of) The Iron Lady this weekend. Really terrible. I fully expected it to focus on Thatcher's political career. Instead, the majority of the film was a journey through her battle with senility, with bits and pieces of her political career thrown in as flashbacks. We couldn't make it all the way through it.

If not already mentioned, Baraka is one of the better movies I've seen. Additionally, the creators have made a new one (Samsara, opens in Denver on 9/7) that should be to the likings of those that enjoyed Baraka.
Just finished watching "In Time" with Justin Timberlake on HBO. I really wanted to see that movie. I was disappointed because it is just a movie that incorrectly riles up poor people against banks and the rich.

The movie is only good as a supplement to the book. Since the book is in "first person" perspective, all of the detail that made the book so amazing couldn't translate to the movie without making it 6 hours long. Read the book, you'll love it.

The first book is Fantastic. It took me about 30 pages to get into the groove of the writers style, but once I did I found the story very compelling. The second book was good, but not quite as good as the first. The third book took some liberties that I disagreed with and it seemed like the writer was rushing things to wrap up the story - especially at the very end. I found the third book disappointing.
I saw "Trouble With the Curve" this weekend, and really liked it. Clint Eastwood sure has changed the tone of his movies over the last few years and I, for one, like it.
He kinda of deals with growing older and how our lives affect our kids.

Anybody seen The Hobbit yet? I watched it at a matinee yesterday. I'm a huge Tolkien fan and really enjoyed all the Peter Jackson movies, including this one. I was stoked about a movie that focuses more on the dwarfs of Middle Earth, rather than some of it's larger creatures. The movie started off a little slow, but the action picked up, and the scenery didn't fail to please. I like how they added some of the "assumed sub-plots" that weren't really in the book. Now another year until part deux...
I'd probably give it a 9/10 just because the sounds was a bit off in the theater. It may have been the spot I was sitting, but certain dialogues were a little hard to hear. Bubba next to me, slurppin on his big gulp and nachos, probably didn't help much.

I saw that twice in theaters, I really enjoyed it... problem is, and I'll be a man and admit it, I'm a little prejudiced against Mexicans (the stereotypical gang banger kind- I have no issue with the "can function in everyday society" kind), and that movie made me hate them just a little more.
Anyone else been to see "Jack Reacher" yet? We saw and really like it. Wouldn't mind seeing it again actually.
Stay the hell away from "Cold Light of Day"- just because it has Bruce Willis and Sigorney Weaver in it, doesn't mean it's good... It's pretty terrible. Dude, one of my favourites from my younger days!
So I just saw Olympus Has Fallen last night... Good action, decent plot, quite a few holes and some far fetchedness but overall I'd rate it pretty well. Not really one of those films you should bring the wife and kids too, lots of swearing and shooting and blood. Fun, thrilling action, not something I'd expect to win any awards.
Just watched Katyn, really good movie for you history buffs, about the Katyn massacres of Polish officers and other perceived threats in 1940. It's in Polish but well worth the watch. I was pretty surprised at the adeptness of the cinematography and story telling.

Zero Dark Thirty is on my list. I saw This is 40 last night. It's kind of a sequel to Knocked Up. I found it pretty freaking funny. (sorry if it's been mentioned before) Just also got some movie about Cirque Du Soleil, and I'm excited to see it. I saw a show live last year for the first time and was extremely impressed. Any time I can revisit those stunning acrobatics is worth it in my book, even if the acting sucks.

I've recently seen the following:
"Life of Pi" I loved this movie. I liked the book when I read it about two months ago. This is one of those rare "the movie is really close to the book" movies.
"Zero Dark Thirty" Very good, but it's really not a "war" movie, if that's what you're looking for. I thought it was really well done. Who knows how close to reality it is. It was refreshing that it didn't glorify the Pretender in Chief (Obummer).
"Erased" I balked at getting this one on PPV because it's $10.99. I guess they justify it because it's an "advanced screening". The wife and I had the evening to ourselves so I figured I splurge and get it....[LOL]. Good CIA/spy movie. The teenager in this movie is so fucking annoying...just like teenagers in real life.
"Evil Dead" [zombie1]Yes, the original! It was on PPV and I couldn't resist. Freaking classic from '81 I think.
EDIT: Almost forgot "No Country for Old Men" I freaking love this movie. I watched it with the closed captioning on for the first time and picked up lots of lines that were lost the other times I watched it. I'm just not that familiar with that supper heavy Texas accent.

I thought the raid sequence wasn't that well done in "Zero Dark Thirty", but I agree, it was pretty good and didn't deify the anointed one.
I Freaking love the original Evil Dead! Probably why I'm reluctant to see the new one, the original was cheesy, campy and fun, the new one looks like none of those.
New Evil Dead is supposed to be campy still I hear.
Saw most of Red Tails last night. Kind of disappointing production for being such a proud part of our history. Mostly good though. After Red Tails, I stumbled across the 1999 masterpiece called "White Boys," about a bunch of wanna be gangster rappers from Holyoke, Iowa. Think of a movie based solely around the infamous Icyhot Stunnaz picture. It was a trap. Wreck that I couldn't take my eyes off of. Basically Gummo meets that Jamie Kennedy wanna-be movie.

Just like that! I call the last one Superman lifts, because that's ALL he does. [ROFL1] I wish they would have done Doomsday or Darkseid. But another Kryptonian will be ok, but Zodd has been done before. I'm just glad its not Lex Luthor. At least supes and zodd can hurt, if not kill, each other. BTW how do you imbed vids?

Ronin do you have a XBOX? I have that Gods among us game and it is amazing. Think Supes vs Doomsday where YOU control the fight.
Can we get a gamertag sticky here? I know there are several gamers here. I have both a ps3 and 360, I have a WII as well, but I haven't even hooked it up in about 5 years!
Saw Django Unchained. Not one of Tarantino's greatest for sure. Too many campy parts.

I do but I rarely play it anymore since buying my new PC, hooking up Skyrim with a ton of new awesome mods, and now I haven't touched my PS3 or 360... Kind of a waste since I have GameFly, too.

I liked it, but agree, not his best- And I've been a fan since 4 Rooms. Doesn't nearly stack up to Inglorious Basterds and Pulp Fiction (two of my all time favs, nevermind that they happen to also be Tarantino films).

I finally watched this and thoroughly enjoyed it, while I'll agree it wasn't his best. Christoph Waltz was fantastic and there was plenty of the standard Q.T. gore in it. For me it was easy to see why it won so many awards.
Also just watched Broken City and Gangster Squad. Both were entertaining.

I finally got around to watching Taken 2 last night. Didn't really like it.
To me it was just a story about a guy, teaching his daughter to drive.
Just got back from the new Fast and Furious
Good movie. Plot was meh, but good action scenes, great looking cars, and lots of laughs.

Watched the Pines last week-not what I expected-not too bad a movie.

No, but it looks like its going to be great!
Haven't posted here lately because I haven't seen any decent movies. [Roll1]
Lincoln was okay. Daniel Day Lewis did his usual superb job. Someone didn't watch the Ken Burns documentary. There was more to the Civil War than slavery.
Jack Reacher was usual Tom Cruise far. A sock puppet could have done a better job. Werner Herog played a decent villain but all I could think about was him narrating Cave of Forgotten Dreams after he opened his mouth. Robert Duvall stole the show, as usual.
Going back in time, The World's Fastest Indian still rocks.

For those who have not seen or watched it in a long time, I suggest DAS BOOT German version anglish sub titles. A post from last month mentioning a polish movie with sub titles turned a (smalll) light on in the brain cavity and figured i remind folks of another Great WWII flick
We're deciding on I-3 or Star Trek for a matinee monday. Probably see I-3 as it has been out a few weeks.
Going back in time, The World's Fastest Indian still rocks.
Quite possibly the most underrated movie I've ever seen.
Just finished Moonrise Kingdom on HBO. This movie is good to go if you are a Wes Anderson fan. About to start Behind the Candelabra.
USAFGopherMike

Behind the Candelabra was ok. Damon was meh... Damon.. only more gay than usual. Douglas was as usual, great. I caught one I'd missed until last night, End of Watch. Fantastic film. +1 for World's Fastest Indian. Easily my favorite motorcycle movie.
My friends are all fired... I just watched Wall-E this weekend for the first time, really good movie- nevermind the environmentalist preaching, it was a very well made movie with a great story.
In other news- finally got done with Season 5 of The X-Files (finally seeing all the episodes in the mythology arc), now to watch the first movie tonight and actually understand what's going on (for the first time with all the holes filled). [Beer]

"The Last Stand" with Arnold. Not bad. I mean it was a regular shoot-em-up with a few good car chases. The car sceens were actually pretty cool IMHO.
What I thought was admirable was that that they portrayed Arnold as an "old" Sheriff instead of pretending he's a young Terminator-style guy still. Kind of like Tommy Lee Jones in "no Country for Old Men", except that was a WAAAAAAAAY better movie.

My favorite part is when the guy in jail says his judge likes him and he thinks something good will happen, and he will probably get to go home soon. Then he gets 50 years in jail. I laughed.
