Irving, check out Phantasm, main characters in movie are about your daughters age.
Phantasm is great. I have it at #14 on my all time list. I dig the whole series for the most part.
@Irving: Blackcoat's Daughter is a really slow burn. I like the slow atmospheric ones though. Not for everyone... Train to Busan is a Korean infected film. Really good though.
My list of my top all-time films is here:
https://letterboxd.com/hardstepdesign/list/my-top-21-horror-films-of-all-time/
I like "scary" movies that transcend the genre, like Guillermo Del Torro's The Orphanage and the Haunting of Hill House Netflix reboot.

Agreed, both of those are great. I'd say I do too since I love "heady" horror that makes you think, and does something new. I'm not a big fan of gore just for gore's sake.
I agree. I don't understand the attraction for the "Saw" franchise.
I would classify Aliens as Sci-Fi and The Silence of the Lambs as a crime drama.

Yeah I don’t like the Saw franchise. Some cool kills but bad story and gimmicks instead of good stories.
Aliens is for sure a sci-fi/horror, but Silence of the Lambs is horror in my book. It has all the elements and formula and of a horror film.
When it comes to being scared I prefer my movies a little cheesey.
Two of my favorites from back in the day are Motel Hell (1980) and The Funhouse (1981).
The Evil Dead series was always entertaining because of the cheese factor as well.
For the more modern stuff I really like the characters of Rob Zombie?s films but the stories are a bit lacking.
I recently watched Doctor Sleep which is a sequel to The Shinning. It wasn?t a bad film but movies about the supernatural aren?t really scarey in my opinion. The characters were pretty well done I thought.

I find Silence of the Lambs to be more 'suspense' than horror, but maybe that's me.
Event Horizon is definitely horror.

Love that one! Picked up a Blu Ray of it a few months ago finally
Event Horizon is definitely horror.
Agreed. The Sci-Fi aspect is just the platform/mechanism.
Just knocked out my 99th and 100th 2019 horror release of the year.
Watched Fractured on Netflix, and a screener of Daniel Isn?t Real.
Fractured: eh. Like. 4.5/10. Well made but I didn?t care for it much. Frustrating character and predictable.
Daniel isn?t Real: pretty bonkers movie. Comes out next month. Really pretty good.

Have you seen The Void yet?
The story isn't super great, but it does a great job of capturing HP Lovecraft's vibe.
Babadook was the first horror movie I've watched since playing Silent Hill 2 that managed to make me feel unsettled.
Babadook was surprisingly good.

Just started "Smoking Aces" for like the 30th time. One of my fav's.
Alternate title for the new James Bond movie.
"Ain't Nobody Got Time Fo Dyin'!"

Was that the guy who played Freddie Mercury as the bad guy ? It was just a fast glimpse.
Saw "Knives Out" this weekend. Very, very good. Twists and turns, surprises and a final twist at the end.

I'm surprised. I wasn't interested based on the trailers. Does it fit cleanly into a certain genre? I assumed it was a comedy.
My next show is going to be the Star Wars movie coming out in a few weeks.
Missed Zombieland 2 in theaters but should be available to rent soon.
I think I saw there?s a second Wonder Woman movie coming out sometime. Probably try and see it since I pretty much watch every superhero movie.

It's a direct sequel to the Ghostbusters movies from the 1980s and they're going to completely ignore the 2016 one.

A much better concept than the feminist campaign of 2016.

While their aim might be better, they can't drive worth a damn.

It's supposed to be comedy, but it's not really funny.... it's a whodunnit, Agatha Christie style.... No exactly Murder on the Orient Express, but a lot of twists.
Was the girl one good? I thought I heard it wasn't bad.
Chris Hemsworth was ok in it, but other than that and the selfie stick gag that was in the trailer is the only funny bit.
Fundamentally, Ghostbusters 2016 managed to capture zero % of the comedy, scares, world-building, music, or geekery of the original movies, or even the animated series, for that matter.
Bummer. I recently heard someone say that the new phrase people are throwing around is "Get woke, go broke," so I think this trend may be on the way out.
They need to have a better motivation than to just remake everything with female leads.
I'm holding out for the remake of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider with a male lead. Maybe they'll call it Larry Croft?

Saw "Joker". Joaquin Phoenix is either an amazing actor, or very disturbed.
That being said, I'm not a comic book fan, so I don't understand the buzz about the movie. It's dark, slow, and disturbing. Not my cuppa.
Just finished this myself. I'm not a "comic book" movie guy either. I thought this movie portrayed a heinous murderer as a hero. The fact he was abused and went off his meds is irrelevant to me. I really wish Hollywood would come up with some good, ORIGINAL movies.
So who is excited about the new Picard StarTrek movie?
We're getting pretty smart. So when they say fire up the trasnporters, we realize they have no trasporters.
I'm about done with SciFi.

I thought it was a streaming series.
ETA: Just checked. It is a series for CBS. I'm a fan of TOS and never cared for TNG with Picard.

I thought it was sad but a well told story. Some parts of the movie were absolutely funny.
Very good, put it on your list ya'll. Trailer does not represent what the movie really is, and that's a good thing, too many trailers spoil the whole movie.
Based off the trailer, if you think it isn't your cup of tea, you'll be surprised. Put it on your list. It's partially comedic, sure, but not exactly it's full genre.

Hmm. Wasn?t too excited about it after the preview. I was afraid it couldn?t hold a candle to Top Secret from 1984.

Different genres, really. The trailer for JoJo makes it appear more comedic or satirical than it really is (and it isn't a satire)

Ford v Ferrari. Christian Bale was great as Miles. Very engaging movie. McKinnon fit the Remington role well also.
Matt Damon wasn't the right choice for Shelby, didn't look remotely like him, didn't have any Shelby mannerisms or speech patterns. His acting never changes, it was the same dude that was on Mars, but with an occasional poorly inserted drawl. I kept thinking a younger Tommy Lee Jones would have been pretty good as Shelby.
I get that. Carroll Shelby was a Texas chicken farmer and was usually the tallest guy in every picture you see of him. Matt Damon is from Boston and is 5'10". Not the best job of casting.
Last night we finished watching Chernobyl, the 2019 HBO mini series depicting the 1986 explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Very well done and I recommend it mostly because it presents an accurate picture of the Soviet Union and it's corrupt Marxist culture of lies and coverup.
The reality of the closed and punitive nature of communist societies isn't taught in schools today--which is one reason that Sanders and Warren have gained the support of younger followers. If only this series would be widely shown on broadcast and cable TV next fall before the election, just maybe the neo socialist kids would get an inkling of life in a totalitarian society. It should scare the bejesus out of every freedom loving person.

Chernobyl Diaries was excellent..... a lot of technical details I don't ever recall being published.
It was a disaster which could have been exponentially worse. I think the building cover was recently completed, summer of 2019.

8g for 13 second at age 78 would be interesting.
I'm actually eager to see the new Top Gun 2: Maverick. I love seeing the aerial footage and from what I hear, very little of it is CGI. I loved the aerial footage in the first one and HD cameras have improved immensely since then.

You mean the torpedo bouncing off the hull? I didn't have sound when I watched it....
I thought the radio call and the repeated encounters with the sub on the surface just yards apart were laughable. Wolfpacks used stealth and picked away at the convoy. They weren't in your face trading blows. The wolfpacks also didn't contain large numbers of subs as depicted in the radar image (and they would not have given away their positions anyway).

Yeah, surface encounters were a... "okay, it's Hollywood, I'm looking past it for a moment" ..... and then you get the cliche Nazi impression radio call from a sub and magically 60 tangos appear on the radar scope all chasing one Fletcher destroyer. [LOL] If you had the sound off you'd somewhat miss that.
I guess their inspiration is a legendary battle inside a 1990's arcade game.

In WW2, UBoat tactics did include night surface attacks. Mostly torpedo although deck guns were used in the early Atlantic war. Their doctrine set a minimum range of 300 yards for a night surface attack. Further, their early war doctrine emphasized repeat attacks on the surface. For a UBoat, surface maneuvering preserved the subs mobility as top submerged speed was less than half surfaced and battery life short at top speed.
Sure, but that's not what was pictured in the trailer.
Since studios are releasing new movies direct to rental has anybody rented "The Hunted" yet?

I posted this on May 8 on another site.
I had a nightmare where the world ended - it began with Russel Crowe getting pissed off from someone taking video of him on a riding lawnmower. Things quickly spiraled out of control from that single incident.
Much later there were armored police trucks with belt-fed machine guns and much explosion. Vehicles were disappearing and it was like world-war-z met purge. I couldn't wake up.
With how 2020 is going, I want to error on the side of caution and give Russel Crowe a lot of space....

The first part brought Falling Down to mind too! Then he just gets too fixated. If he at least shoots up a drive through or something it would be a 10/10 sequel. On a side note, he looks a lot - bigger - he almost has John Goodman vibes now. I wonder if that was for the role.
Heard he had been gaining weight for a role. Gotta' have that overweight, white, drives a pickup, crazy guy character. Did he have a Trump bumper sticker on the pickup? [panic]

"Da 5 Bloods"
I'm curious to see what others here think of it. It was part part of the Netflix "BLM Collection" so I figured I'd watch it to see that perspective. I would never have paid to see this.
Actually, I thought it was OK. Not a great movie at all, but OK IMHO.
The only rub was the Trump references if that bothers you. They felt forced, like someone said "Hey, we should throw in a couple of MAGA hat references and bash Trump a little here and there". It seemed sophomoric and unnecessary.
If this movie came out in 2009 during Obama's term there would have been no references to today's politics, because it really had very little to do with today's politics. This movie blatantly shows Spike Lee's bent. He just had to shove something up Trump's ass.
Kind of sad. The movie's premise of getting their guys remains and the gold at the same time could have been done so much better. But BLM man...gotta push the leftist agenda.[facepalm],

I enjoyed it, some great actors, good plot. Agreed, could have been done better, without the political spin.
At times some typical Hollywood schtick which really make you wonder, WTF?.
An observation about "Magnum Force" which has been getting a lot of play recently on various satellite channels, watched it again tonight. After watching it so many times I can't count I'm still perplexed by the death scene of the last bad motor cop. He attempts a jump while chasing Harry and ends up going off the deck of the ship in what appears to be from a definitely survivable height. The film cuts to Harry looking at the water and cuts back to the dead guy floating face down. Seriously?? Possibly the lamest film death? I know, it's only a movie but that scene always makes me shake my head.

Phenomena - PPV on Amazon prime. Recommended. Covers a lot of well documented unidentified phenomena very well in chronological fashion, from 1940s stuff into the 2000s including the declassified tic-tacs.
Tonight we watched this movie. I was so impressed. It's German and has a pretty slow build, and if you watch it based on my recommendation you won't believe me for a long time during the movie. But I think it's worth the watch.

I don?t care for movies dubbed over to English or having to read subtitles but I saw a preview for a movie on Amazon called AK-47 Kalashnikov. Looked like a story about Mr. Kalashnikov and the development of the AK. (With actors, like a movie. Not a documentary.)
Just throwing it out there if anyone is interested.

Wow, that is a movie that needs to be watched more than once! Thanks for the post, Not a lot of dialog so no big problem with English subtitles . Unusual plot, pretty creepy and well done.

I had recorded this movie on the Comcast DVR from one of the Encore channels some time ago.
Last night was a great line-up of TV with Oprah's interview of the runaway Prince and his bride, or the NBA's All Star Thriller.
I thought, "Hey, I recorded a movie about survival in the Arctic!" Let me watch that.
First recommendation: Read the description from any source so you have a clue what is going on.
This is one you can watch while loading ammo, reading the paper, fermenting beer, or staring off into space.
I admit, after 4 days of the unknown central character's journey, I did use the 30 second jump forward function on the DVR a couple of times.
Have fun!

Okay, I read my review and I apologize!
It actually was not as bad as I made out.
In long retrospect, it was not a waste of time, but I probably will not repeat the experience.
One lesson- do not crash land in the Arctic, even if you know what your doing

Glad you watched it. I feel like I can't talk about any of the reasons I liked this movie so much without spoiling it.

I can’t remember the title of the movie but it was a limited release about WW1. Do any of you all remember that film
Thanks.
The recent one that came out this year?

Was it the one with one camera following the main actor in one continuous scene? I think that one was called 1917?

The colorized documentary type one? If so: They Shall Not Grow Old by Peter Jackson.

This movie is right in my wheelhouse!,! Watching tomorrow.
Without Remorse-WTF???? The only thing it has in common with the source material is the title and the character name. Absolutely horrible. I think Taylor Sheridan blew his wad on ?Hell or High Water?. Kind of a toss between The Sum of All Fears and Without Remorse as to which is the worst film based on a Clancy book.
The book was one of my two favorites of Clancy?s original works-the other is Patriot Games. The origin story of Kelly and how he became Clark was for me a great read. Do not waste your time on this latest movie, you?ve been warned.

How was it?
Savages on Netflix.
Can't believe I never heard of this 2012 flick.
Not bad. Deserves the 50/50 on Rotten Tomatoes.
Blake Lively and Selma Hayek are easy on the eyes.

Saw that when it came out. Yes, It gave me a much different opinion of Mrs. deadpool. As for Salma, like a fine wine she just keeps getting better looking
Oh yeah the movie is worth watching, too ;) ..
We watched Stowaway on Netflix last night. It is a space movie with Anna Kendrick. It's not that good.
Stowaway could have been good.....it wasn't. More numb-skulls in space.
I bet OSHA employees blow a gasket watching that movie.
The new Mortal Kombat was pretty good, IMO. Godzilla was hard to get in to.

OSHA folks would have to take mind-altering drugs to get through that movie.... come to think of it.... I could have used some....

Dead Again in Tombstone starring Danny Trejo. Danny never disappoints me since I never hold him to a high standard. [ROFL2]

Totally agree. Mortal Kombat (not for kids) was pretty good. Kong v. Godzilla was terrible. Not even 'good' terrible.
Happy to hear Mortal Kombat was good. I was planning on skipping it. Probably watch it with similar ages friends. I was sick of Jaxx and Tonya by Mortal Kombat II.
Not a Movie, but if ya'll haven't seen it, the Apple TV series, Ted Lasso, is really good.
“Kill Line.” Made by Koreans. Characters say they are from China. Filmed in Pueblo! Shaping up to be a Death Wish plot starring a guy I would describe as the Korean Charles Bronson.
ELVIS
Not a big fan but really enjoyed it. Tom Hanks was great and the whole story was well told, including the dark side. I think we will be seeing more of the guy that played Elvis too.
Good stuff! I would recommend it.
Netflex has VICE a docudrama on Dick Cheeney. We enjoyed it.
Took the family to see ?Devotion? pretty OK film.

Wow, I unwisely bit and watched this movie, “Kill Line”. That had to be the lowest budget movie I have seen in my 85 years.

HA! That makes me so happy! My favorite part was when they jumped a car into a ravine (probably a huge part of their budget) and the camera guy missed it. All this time and I'll never forget that scene.
If anyone wants another low-budget Colorado classic try and find Elves (1989) starring Dan Haggerty. It's amazing.

I thought that I must have dozed off as I did not see the car into a ravine either. Had a tough time staying awake for this “movie”.

It's.... Things to Do in Denver, When You're Dead. Lot of familiar faces, who (some ) went on to more high profile things. Considering it was made 27 yrs ago.
Critical Bill in his apt. I AM GODZILLA AND YOU ARE JAPAN!
Or Mr. Shhhh, ( Steve Buscemi)
The scene where Andy Garcia is talking to William Forsythe, was filmed where a friend of ours lived. IIRC you can catch a glimpse of his daughter in the background, if you knew what she looked like.
My wife was an extra (working Paramedic) in a made for TV movie filmed here about a true crime story (man kills wife) but damn if I can remember the title or story or even the year. Probably some time in the late 90's.
Might have to pop in the VHS and take a look to see if it's available anywhere. She appeared for about 3 seconds loading a dead body into a bambulance.
Great sleeper movie with a super cast. Christopher Walken's character is a real dick!

I've gone to two movies at the theater in as many weeks, and loved both. Dungeons and Dragons and the Super Mario Bros movie. If you're not into either property you may not enjoy them as much, but I like both and loved the movies. Mario had so many easter eggs (how appropriate) for lovers of the series. Any eventual YouTube vid listing them all will have to be as long as the movie itself!
So yeah, if you are a gamer, go see 'em. If you have young kids, see Mario, if you enjoy action and humor, see Dungeons and Dragons.
The spousal unit and I recently watched and enjoyed A Man Called Otto with Tom Hanks.
Water for guns. Humphrey Bogart in Saharah. Lulubelle is the star.
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning is good. It would be excellent if they chopped 20 minutes of fluff.

I've been building up my movie collection for a few years and recently purchased With Honors with Branden Frazier and Joe Pesci.
While this movie was made in 1994, it's one I won't regret watching. Overall an excellent movie and Pesci played a roll unlike any other I've seen him in.

Watched it to the end. While I knew much of the information already, I still found this documentary very informative. It could be eye opening for those willing to put away their bias and review the facts as they truly are. It's very sad that one man got himself killed by his own actions, four innocent people went to prison, many others seriously injured and an entire city destroyed to support a false narrative - and that's just what occurred in Minneapolis and failing to consider the lives/communities lost and destroyed around the nation.
Time for the annual screening of Elves from 1989. It features Dan Haggerty, most of an elf puppet, Nazis, and was filmed in Colorado Springs! It’s terrible!!!
Found a local video store with a great collection.
Watched a few movies over T’giving.
Worlds Fastest Indian
Blazing Saddles
Once Upon a Time In Mexico
Making at list of classics.
Netflix has a new documentary. Squaring the Circle is about the top album artist in the 70s.
Godzilla Minus Zero.
Great special effects and a good story, but I'm a big 'Godzirra' fan.
Anyone else see it?

Watched Gran Turismo this evening, enjoyed it alot.
Mrs bo made some awesome popcorn, real movie theater type stuff.
Jerry and Marge Go Large
watched on a flight, looks like it's on PARAMOUNT+
Also watched Searching for Sugar Man, documentary about Sixto Rodriguez. Looks like it's only on a few rental sites.
“Charged, the Eduardo Garcia story “
Short Documentary about a guy that was zapped by 2400 volts while hunting, when he was literally poking a bear! True story of 4 1/2 yr recovery. The guy was alone and walked out with 2 holes blown out of his skull.
Netflix, highly recommended.

Darwin runner-up?
Saw Deadpool & Wolverine in 3-D. Lots of action and rank comedy.
It had some Marvel character reference I didn’t follow but good storyline and A-1 special effects.
"Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse"
Pretty fun movie.

SISU - been looking forward to it. Don't mess with old Finns. Enjoyed it.
The Beekeeper - usual Statham mayhem, enjoyed it as well.
