What f'n pisses me off is when people who are not in the Denver Metro area, say Greeley or Colo Springs, want your item, but they either won't come and f'n get it, or they whine about shipping. Or if I was in Ft. Collins and somebody in Denver wanted a $20 item, takes a lot of my time negotiating a lower price but didn't want to even suggest coming and getting it, and whined about and/or want me to eat any part of shipping. Eat me- I'll burn it 1st. [Fire]
You know it ain't feller. For a C-note, I'll figger out delivery- and I'm learnin. For $15 or $20, from now on outside the Denver Metro Area, delivery and or pick-up is the buyer's problem- not mine. I'll think twice when I'm talking to people outside my area about small dollars. Don't waste my time. [Mad]
[ROFL2] I drove all the way from Castle Rock to the southern edge of the Pawnee grass lands to pick up a steel target. Not once but twice.
Hell, if you don't want to interact with people loving the same thing that you do, then why join the site in the first place? It's not the targets I remember about the trips, it's the people. I'd make the drive back there again in a heartbeat.
i have pretty good luck with this . most folks knock a few bucks off , meet half way or throw down on the extras of me . although there are a few i have dealt with that expect you to drive damn near to kansas and pay top dollar for for a very used gun . so i have boundaries or limits im willing to travel to make a deal . i usually try to stick from co springs to loveland ,id have no problem with an hour or so into the hills but i wont go too much past 270 east . i also look at the location of buyer/seller when making offer and factor the gas ect. to the bid .
Huh? You say you drove all the way up there to pick up steel targets, sounds like you were the buyer- so what's your beef? In a buyer/seller relationship, it's not my responsibility to eat delivery cost and/or shipping, after lengthy negotiations over a few dollars, especially on small dollar items. I've met lots of good folks here, as you may see if you peruse my feedback- this in a pretty short time on the forum. If you have the $$ to spend on gasoline delivering some 40 miles (that right there is 80 miles round trip, say 17 mpg so that's about 5 gallons of gas- $3.50 per gallon- so 17.50 in gas alone) more power to you. On an item someone wants for $15 or $20.
What's the point? If they are a friend or someone you've dealt with a number of times, ok fine- that's different.
ok, time to be a hard-ass...

this requirement has been posted for YEARS. No excuses!
do I need to get out the ban hammer? [Spank]
Can I ask what this has to do with my post?
How many more threads like this are we going to get? NO ONE reads forum rules when they join a site. No one. I've probably posted on 20 different sites over the years, and have never read any forum rules unless they were specifically brought to attention by a thread or something.
I'm exactly the same way. I love reading the forum, and I visit at least once or twice a day, but I don't post much. I think that if there is a post limit enabled it should be lower so that you don't get a bunch of jerks bumping up old stuff and so that people like me who don't post much can still buy and sell things.
I just really prefer interacting face to face, and between the 3 forums I frequent most (here being one of them), I probably have 200 posts total.
I've met some really great people through the for sale forum, but if there were a high post count limit enabled I probably couldn't bring myself to blather mindlessly up to 150 posts just to sell a rifle or a pistol. I would just feel like a jerk posting on threads with an ulterior motive in mind. I hate saying things I don't mean, and being forced to write "yeah, that movie wuz funny llol!!1!" for the chance to post a rifle in the for sale section would really turn me away from the forum.
Anyway, that's how I feel about that. I think that people should just get less leeway on the FS forum. Either follow the rules or lose your privilege to sell things online.
Include a price (firm or OBO), include pictures, say what your trade interests are, and most importantly include a good description! I hate it when I see ads where the only description is "glock 17. 2 mags. PM for pics." If you're trying to sell something, try and sell it! Accurately describe the item for sale and talk about what accessories, mags, etc. come with it. Then, be polite with PMs and when replying to questions, and once you've done that, you've made a successful FS post.[Beer]
I would propose that one of the web gurus here design and online "test" of some sort
one where a page pops up, has each one the sale rules, you have to click "I Agree" and the circle next to the rule.
Next rule
a page pops up, has each one the sale rules, you have to click "I Agree" and the circle next to the rule.
rinse and repeat
this is stored in the profile as a permission and we get to post.
otherwise not.
surely someone here can finger this out
You know they're still not going to read it- they'll just click "I Agree"
Remember this?

how about a pop quiz, where actual answers are required?
or just public ridicule? e.g. the low-ball offers, etc (not very friendly, but thin-skinned individuals will eventually have problems on this board anyway)[Stooge]
Love this stuff, I have been out of town the last 4 days with my back up crackberry that I cant get CO AR-15 on. (jumped in the lake with my old new one). Dumb ass, I know....
Great thread, reminds me of why I love this site so much!

The best solution I've seen to this problem is just to create a template in a sticky, then just required the template be used and filled out for every thread. Delete threads that don't use the template. You don't even need to pussy foot around and hold people's hands. If they want to sell here, they'll figure it out very quickly. Especially when every for sale thread looks the same.
clearly threads aren't doing it
thus public shame is going to have to.
no pics, no chance wall of shame
all on the first page of for sale, at 8:40am

Well, I've been arguing with myself about replying to this thread because as you an see I do not post a lot (for a couple of reasons I've shared with others when I've done FTF deals). I'll just put this out in the FWIW department. I have no life so I find my way to this forum probably a couple of times a day and I find most of you here quite entertaining and knowledgeable. [Coffee]
Most of my deals have been made off other sites, although I recently completed one here. I have to admit I've been a closet lurker on this board and had a history of perusing this forum long before I decided to "officially join" and did so primarily because I found it to be interesting and entertaining (some of you guys have quite the sense of humor). [ROFL3] I only want to toss out a couple of opinions.
As one who has made a few deals, I have to say I agree with the OP that posting a price (or at least a trade value) certainly helps. I also agree that pictures are a HUGE help because I live far enough from most sellers that I'd like to know it is something I really want and I plan on keeping my word if I'm making the drive for it. If I am really interested, not having these things will not keep me from a PM to ask for them, but it really would be much easier on everyone if folks stick to the rules (although I have to admit when I signed up I forgot to include my location). [Bang]
Lastly, I hope if I contact anyone on here about a possible deal I won't be viewed as some sort of nutball flake because I don't post much (I'm much better "live"). I typically will send several PMs and make a phone call or two (and maybe even a little other research) in order to make sure we don't have two nutball flakes meeting for a deal.
So, I've taken up a lot of space to simply state it is certainly better for everyone to just follow the rules and don't hate me because I don't post much. [Tooth] Thanks for indulging my windy reply.
Dumbass idea.
I vote we change the name of this thread to...................The Girly Vagina Whimpering Thread.
Everone is crying about the very best local classified section on the internet. I have got a lot of great deals, met a lot of good dudes and even made a few friends. Just saying..........
i hate inventing prices for people , if someone tells me what they want for a thing then i can work a usually work out a deal that everyone is happy with . but if i have to invent a price and then they want to haggle (happens all day at the shows ) ... im just sayin that s*ht gets old quick . if i only want to trade the ill say i only want to trade but still say trade amount so people know not to come with some smart ass and or low ball crap .
example
i have this bushmaster , im not really sure what its worth or what ill take so just send me an offer [Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang]
my next offer to an add like that is gonna be this
jennings ja9 used in 2 drive by's , run over once , then left in my fisshin box in fla for a few years , never cleand it but im sure it works great ,but your gonna have to kick down 50 bucks on top of that bushmaster and drive to me.
(i in no way own a firearm like that, but ill find you one if you will give me 50 bucks and a bushmaster [Stooge] )
i dont know why having a price is so hard . just slap a price on a thing and give yourself room to wiggle trade or not . ever had to toss in ammo or extras or ask for any to even out a dollar amount in your head even though its a trade ? hell thats a third of my table right there , all the extras .
I stand corrected. I didn't know I was in the presence of such vast experience.
It's still a dumbass idea and would make it boring as hell.
I think that most of the problems with the classifieds here are not really problems. They are pet peeves. There will always be the new guy that screws it up but I just have some fun with them and take it for what it is.
I use the classifieds as much or more than anyone here. And again I will say, I have mede a ton of great deals, met some really good dudes and have made some friends. What else can a guy expect from a classified section?????
I agree that most of this thread is peeves, but there are some true issues too. unfortunately, most of the problems seem to be from posters with a count below 20 over the last couple of weeks. There also seems to be a greater than average amour of newbies posting in the sales threads lately too. I haven't done any stats on the impression, but based on a lot of other posters in this thread, the trend is obvious enough that most of the hardcores are seeing it too.
How long will the sales threads be considered quality if they continue down a road of obscure posts, not following the basics, disregard for people posting and pming for info without any responses... Ya, it requires people read and heed some basic rules and many currently are not, a huge chunk are newbies just coming on here to sell and bolt. I've bought and sold guns from newbies and lurkers with low counts, but I'm damn careful doing it. No track record or social ties means there is nothing to base reliability on. Ya, I even do BOS with them (don't take this thread there...). Point is, quality is a sign of good standards. Let the standards go, and we will become CO gunbroker. I don't think any of us want that.
It's absolutely more of a pet peeves issue than anything else, but if people are serious about reducing the noob posts with insufficient info, than a template is the way to do it. That gives people a good idea of what kind of info they should put into their ad. Just like having a template for writing a letter.
Actually, this is the one point in your rant I have to disagree with.
Lots of folks have asked us to NOT delete thread so that others can use the threads to get an idea of current market prices for similar items. Our solution is that we ask the OP to either close the thread and (or at least) post in the thread that the item has SOLD, TRADED, or been WITHDRAWN. If the OP does this as an edit to the OP as the first item it makes it easy for the mods to come in and close the thread with an update to the title indicating it's status. After 60 days, the thread will be archived.
Doing things this way is a happy medium for everyone. The only issue is when folks DON'T update their threads to indicate the item is no longer available so the mods don't know to go in and close & edit it.
This is also the case with the "SPF" updated threads. What? After 3 days are we to assume that the item is gone? If the tread can be updaged to idicate SPF, the OP can also come in to update that the item is sold, traded, etc.
No price? Not in standards with the rules and your ad goes bye-bye. If there are not pictures, that's the seller's problem, I barley look at ads with no pics unless I know the poster is a "regular", or the item is a Glock or other current production item, even that's annoying.
Now if you are trying to sell your International Harvester M1 Garand for $1800, with a one line ad with no pics, then you clearly don't want your item sold in a timely manner.
However in this case the public is still safe and democracy will still be here in the morning.
I bow at the feet of the almighty Ginsue...JK man I honestly never thought to check the sold Items to value my own sale, I have ether checked to see how bad people were trying rip others off on Armslist and GB the usually marked my down by 25-30%. but I see the point and I stand corrected.
SideshowBob brings up a very good, well thought out, valid point.
I delete the price and mark it SPF moving to SOLD after the deal is sealed. I do keep the price agreed upon in the pm or e-m back and forth so there is no misunderstanding. Yet to have any issues as buyer or seller.
I have had an e-m or 2 asking what the sale price was, usually from some one who tried to low ball me, using the well my friend brought one for X less than you are selling for. Unless the seller or buyer want's to post what we agreed upon it is really no one's business outside the deal.
He was referencing what Ginsue said about leaving the ad up so people can use that as maybe a rough price for thier Items that they want to sell, you can't get the price if the OP marks it as spf or sold and deletes the price out of the ad. Therfore its pointless to keep the thread up and it shoud be deleted
I have also had this happen, bothas a seller and a buyer, and even posted in the thread.
If I am the seller I leave it up to the buyer,if he/she wants to post how badly I took them for. [LOL]
If I am the buyer I just ignore them, it is none of their business what I got taken for. [Mad]
Ban them
