Buy what you want because you want it. If they ban it down the road, then you have to decide if you will obey the law or not.

But changing your purchasing habits now because of what the antis might do in the future is basically handing them victory in advance.

The "preemptive purchase" option has been ended by universal background checks for us Coloradoans since "off paper" is a prerequisite for preemptive purchases.

Who doesn't want an M1 Garand?

I'm saying hedge. Instead of buying your 10th AR, buy an M1, and do it before you can't afford one.

I don't really ... well that is to say there's dozens of guns I'd rather have before I'd expend resources toward a Garand (impending bans or not). And M1 Carbines are horrible ... there, I said it.

Now one of those cool Uberti 1873 carbines with a "Codymatic" action job ... that might be a nice ban proof gun.

Carbines are a hit at our family shoots. But they are mag fed and would fall under a function ban with a less-than-optimal round. They are great ranch/house guns but I wouldn't want one in the field. I have a Winchester and would love to pick up a second for cheap just can't believe current prices.

The M1 Garand is an excellent rifle! They can currently be found for $800-1,200 in decent shape. While semi-automatic, the internal magazine exempts it from currently proposed bans. They can be had in .30-06 (the Lord’s caliber) or .308/7.62MM. Both are highly effective and considerably more frightening to me than 5.56MM seeing the results.
I'm worried about a full semi-auto ban which would include my beloved M1. I'm torn right now between an A2Clone Ar or getting an M1 off the CMP when I get my interest free loan back from the IRS.

Everything I have read is focused on the function including detachable magazines. An M1 diversifies.

    Doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

I tend to agree although I think most of us went all in on the Magpul airlift. I did, and I certainly didn’t *need* anything.

I also shifted from my G17 towards more G19 due to the ban, only to find I ended up really liking it more.
    Obviously not a golfer.
