FYI - I'm hearing that the school will now be searching "all" backpacks - I'm assuming each day.

The principles and staff have done a great job with this whole event. They haven't blown it all out of proportion or anything. Good people.

Makes me sick though to see some of the idiot comments on the news websites about the neighborhood etc. Wonder why people think they need to be negative about things they know nothing about. (not on this forum, reasonable people here usually)

And be serious? This is a total knee jerk reaction. Maybe they should just put a 6 month moratorium on Kindergarten until they figure out what went wrong.

Ugh, I just read the follow up article. Why does EVERY gun article ALWAYS say something about the gun's "registration status?" What does it matter?

wow, this stuff blows my mind. stupid mistake on the parents part, hopefully they don't get nailed for child abuse or some stupid bullshit over the deal.

honestly mistakes happen. I went hunting with my dad in elementry ended up at school with a pretty decent sized hunting knife in my backpack that the gym teacher happened to see, all he did was take my backpack, put it in his office and make me come get it after school and walk straight home.

I understand this is a bigger deal being a gun, but either way i feel bad for the parents, hopefully things blow over and everyone can continue on with their lives
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

I was talking about this with my family as I was driving them to the airport just now and my brother told me that something like this happened in our family once. Apparently one time my uncle left his Ruger .44 magnum in my cousin's back pack after some trip. My cousin was old enough to check his own bag and caught it before it went to school with him though.

I don't believe it's a decision from the school administration, more probably a requirement from the School District. (Jefferson County)

This was not "confirmed", just rumor. I'll know more tomorrow.

Update: no bag searches on friday, think it was just a rumor.

Snooping: Teacher was assisting the student in gathering up the school supplies required by each student to bring. Firearm was discovered at that time when emptying the backpack of said supplies.
