Went to the Vegas Speedway a few years ago for the Red Bull Air Race finals which were cancelled because of high winds (Big yellow inflatable pylons kept collapsing).

Great time either way, first time there. Big facility and like you said, Nellis AFB is right over 'there'. Fun place with lots of stuff to do but Vegas is pretty much Butt Ugly in the daytime.

Several years back I worked in Vegas for approx 3 months one summer - it was over 100 degrees the entire time I was there, day AND night! Y'all can have it......
