Capitalism, it's what our country is based on....for now. Not one astute business owner would pay $27/hr to an employee if they could get the same skill level for half that.

Either a person embraces capitalism and all it entails or they pine for socialism. There's isn't a lot of middle ground.

I Applied to walmart... Overqualified.
Manager told me straight up that I had more IT experience than his entertainment dept manager...

same thing happened to me in 2008. The company I was working for "restructured" and let 5 of us go (maybe what they thought was overpayed or dead weight) I was replaced by someone making $15.00 an hour (I made $112k that year). The company saved over $75K in payroll just by replacing me, nevermind the other 4 people.

I was out of work for about 4 months before I went to work for a new competitor to the market. In 6 months I picked up over a million dollars in business from my old company.

So to save $75,000 in payroll commissions, they lost over $200,000 in gross profit.

I ran into the VP of sales at a "trade show" who commented on the damage I did while I worked for them...How I destroyed my territory, and was a horrible employee. A couple weeks later I was served with papers that I was being sued for violation of my non compete.

I was so bad I took most of my old territory with me when I went to another company

This is exactly the problem the company that the OP is talking about will face. You get what you pay for. They are trying to make due with the skill set of a 13 dollar an hour employee (Byte Stryke I am not attacking you) when they need a 27 dollar an hour employee. Either they will strike gold with Byte because somehow they will get the 27 bucks an hour work out of 13 bucks in pay or they will end up hurting themselves in the short and long term.

so yeah I am already taking a huge cut just to get back to work.

Well, you read the rest of it so you realize what I meant by that. They are trying to fool themselves that they will get 27 bucks an hour work out of someone by paying them 13. With you, like you just pointed out they may have struck gold. Or you may take the energy you would put into the job to give 27 bucks worth of performance and keep looking for another job.
