Until the republican party can bring a fiscal conservative that can leave their Socio-Religious bile at the door they have no chance to win. And for what its worth I am a Republican.

I was surprised at how heavy of a role the social conservative element played at caucus. I mean, really? We have record unemployment and the biggest concern is so-called "moral issues?"

Fiscal cons should take a page from the social cons, actually. And the gun lobby.

How you gain power in a political party is to show willingness to stay home if your guy isn't good enough. The social cons did it in the 80s and now despite being a minority wing of the party they are absolutely pandered to every election for fear of them staying home. Gun folks did it after '94 and now guns ae almost as much a 3rd rail in politics as SS.

The GOP knows that fiscal cons are like a beaten wife and will always come back no matter how little they actually do on that front, so why pander to them? It's like black voters in the democratic party. They're already voting for you, so why do anything for them?

Mmmm ... no. Social cons gained power because they GOT people to the polls. Gun lobby gained power after the NRA got pro-gun people to the polls and influenced the 1994 Congressional campaign. The Tea Party gained influence (however briefly) because it got people to the polls two years ago.

Staying home just cuts your nose off to spite your face. Mourdock was defeated in Indiana by Lugar supporters crossing over just to spite him -- in essence, by NOT caring about the little letter after his name.

It was a combo. Show up big in primaries, threaten to not show up in the general.

Gun folks also did this in the 90s, if you rememebr your history.

    Default Elections

Once you have more takers than producers it's over.

We'll never see another Republican President in our life time, we can never out vote the takers.

Maybe, but for sure we'll never see another president with traditional values (conservative).

When the producers stop giving to the takers they'll all starve... Unfortunately I don't see a way to stop giving to them...

Social/Moral issues are basically what the Dems have been running on for years...works for them.

The Republicans tried to keep this one mostly to the economy. But the everyday person doesn't know shit about the economy. So they vote instead on who is going to give the birth control pills for free.
