Looks like this was recorded on a gopro. Very wide field of view, and likely mounted on a helmet which already cuts into your periphery vision. Combined with likely tunnel vision facing a threat, his sight probably went as far to the sides as the trees in front of him.As an avid snowmobiler, this guy had a PILE of options besides shooting it. Did you see the other tracks off into the woods? and the fact that where the trail comes out has tracks dispersing in multiple direcitons along with the trail condition/type screams that this area isn't a "stick to the trail area". He also had a LOT of time/oportunity to change direction or route before encountering the animal, He didn't need to ride right up to it he could have given himself a LOT of time by stopping when it was first seen, it was obvious the moose was usning the trail.
NOW that said, I'm not all torn up about the moose getting shot, they taste great
The REALLY stupid part, and what pisses me off, about the whole thing though is posting that shit on Youtube, which IMO immediately qualifies him for douchebag status.
We have a tough enough battle as firearms owners, snowmobilers (land getting shut down to us constantly), and hunters in general. We sure as hell don't need captain commando posting his helmet cam video on the internet as a poster child for questionable behavior involving all 3 activities.
I'm right there with you. I have a couple of good friends in another state who about shat chickens when they saw me carrying my 1911 cocked & locked with a round in the chamber. They understood once I showed them the firearm was designed to be carried in that condition. I also explained that time is money in a gunfight and you want every advantage you can get.

IMHO the guy was a Douche Bag!! He had plenty of options. He egged the Moose on so he could get moving. The Young Moose was standing his ground because that's what they do. After the 1st and ONLY advance, the guy was probably pissed because it damaged ?? the snowmobile. The Moose backed off a great deal after that before the DB fired the shots.
I was charged by my Moose back in 2007. I was hunting it. I had a tag for it. Male big moose. 41" rack. 1,100 Lbs or so. It saw me. It charged, I fired. It died. No loss of meat, beautiful mount, memory's for life time.

He's lucky it was a moose and not a bear. A bear would not have backed off the first attack to give him time to chamber a round. I can't tell at what point he noticed the moose. You can not put most snowmobiles in reverse, most don't have it. In all my days on sleds when you are timber bashing if you step off the running board of the sled in back country you will sink six feet in loose snow. Bottom line no way to retreat and I would not wait for a second attack, bang over.
