Disagree. He made the decision to desert after getting scared from seeing a buddy get shot and leave blood all over his helmet. Had nothing to do with politics.

Dude had no intention to stick with Rey, he saw her simply as an opportunity to get his ass away from the First Order.

You're forgetting that he actually ditched her first chance he got.

And sure, he didn't want to kill villagers, but he apparently didn't think it was so wrong that he needed to do something to stop it. He was fine with innocents getting murdered just as long as he personally didn't have to do it. His plan was to run away, he had no intention of doing anything to stop the First Order.

He didn't offer up the Intel on the super death star as a means to keep people from dying. Rather, as you said, he offered it up soley as a means to save Rey. Saving millions of innocents was a consolation prize.

Think about it this way. The guy knew about the super death star. He knew what it could do. And he knew how to stop it. If Rey didn't get captured, do you think he'd have shared that intel? No f'in way. Had she not been captured, he'd be long on his way to the outer rim and the super death star would be blowing up planets left and right.

A real good guy would see the wrong, and not run away, but get away and immediately join the fight to stop the evil. Even if he didn't have the possibilty to get keep some tail....
