Disagree. He made the decision to desert after getting scared from seeing a buddy get shot and leave blood all over his helmet. Had nothing to do with politics.
Dude had no intention to stick with Rey, he saw her simply as an opportunity to get his ass away from the First Order.
You're forgetting that he actually ditched her first chance he got.
And sure, he didn't want to kill villagers, but he apparently didn't think it was so wrong that he needed to do something to stop it. He was fine with innocents getting murdered just as long as he personally didn't have to do it. His plan was to run away, he had no intention of doing anything to stop the First Order.
He didn't offer up the Intel on the super death star as a means to keep people from dying. Rather, as you said, he offered it up soley as a means to save Rey. Saving millions of innocents was a consolation prize.
Think about it this way. The guy knew about the super death star. He knew what it could do. And he knew how to stop it. If Rey didn't get captured, do you think he'd have shared that intel? No f'in way. Had she not been captured, he'd be long on his way to the outer rim and the super death star would be blowing up planets left and right.
A real good guy would see the wrong, and not run away, but get away and immediately join the fight to stop the evil. Even if he didn't have the possibilty to get keep some tail....
In the spirit of everything old is new again... Han did the same thing in ANH having gotten his payment and then, just like Finn, changed his mind.
In both cases, the rebels wouldn't have won without the change of heart. A little cheesy, sure, real life usually doesn't work that way.
I gave it a 5 out of 10. Too much rehash of old ideas and its seemed more like giving the original cast an opportunity to make another paycheck before they kick the bucket in real life verses truly expanding upon the core story line.
There have been a CRAP TON of books written about the happenings after the first three films. I have read quite a few of these books and ANY ONE OF THEM would have made a better movie than what we got.
The only thing you can count on is the Star Wars cash cow will be milked to the last drop regardless of the milk being sour or not.
Since there is a spoiler thread, I will say what I think abut it. The show was a mess. Harrison Ford reprising his role as Han saves it from being a disaster and his scenes were worth watching. Abrams trying to invoke nostalgia, just comes off repeating stories that have already been told just like his hatchet job with Into Darkness. I spent the entire movie thinking to myself, I already saw this in 1977. Beyond the repetition, the plot changes didn't make sense. What is the back story after return of the Jedi? I can't imagine a story line that didn't involve Luke rebuilding the Jedi order. How could the Leia, Luke, and Han of the first trilogy never talk to each other in this movie? The only thing we saw is repetition with no answers as to why. By the time Han made his sacrificial walk, I just sat there....really, can't you people come up with an original idea? The movie was just the 21st century PC version of A New Hope. Rey and Ren are somewhat interesting, but I hope they do more then retread the first trilogy in the sequels.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

I think a lot of your questions will be answered in the next film.
Fair enough, I see your point.
Agreed, but I have no problem milking the cash cow. Them making new movies does not diminish any of my enjoyment for the OT. And if they manage to make a SWEET Boba Fett movie, then it's all worth it, even Ep. I.
