M1 Garands?

Looking forward to that update. It has been reported that SERVICE grades have been quite nice lately. Hoping for the best for you.

4 mil Springfield, 1ME 4TE, USGI wood.

Broke the whole thing down to clean and lube/grease this weekend. The stock has a lot of cosmoline unfortunately, it's going to take a while to get out fully... I couldn't wait that long so I cleaned it up as best I could in a day and took it to the range Sunday.

She shoots nice, sights were pretty much dead on after I reassembled them. I'd like to get out to 100 yards and make sure I'm zeroed and how the groups are (the wood seems loose but I'm no expert). Pics to come, I haven't gotten any good ones yet.

Sorry for the delay. I took some pics but weren't happy how they turned out. Was going to wait until I could take it in the woods to get some natural light, but here are the pics. Are there any areas you'd like to see specifically when I can get better pics?

boxy, thanks for posting those pictures. Always nice to see the stock cartouche if there is one and the manufacturer and Serial number. If you are uncomfortable showing the SN, you can blank out the last couple numbers. These Garands are outstanding weapons and are my absolute favorites of my 70 years farting around with guns. Easy to take down field strip and even detail stripping is easy.

I could really use some help from some experienced Garand "hands." I have a new to me CMP Garand. I field-stripped it and purchased a Wolff recoil spring to replace the (broken) one that came with the rifle. I have not been able to reassemble it. I have watched a variety of Youtube videos, including the excellent Brownells videos. I have tried repeatedly, including days and weeks apart, rewatching the videos, etc... and am feeling pretty confident that I am following the steps correctly, but I am unable to reassemble because I can't get the pin to seat fully. It looks like it's about 1/16" off, and none of my manipulations have worked. It was obviously assembled when I received it, so I must be doing something wrong. I have included a link to some pics. If you have any words of wisdom, I will really appreciate it. If you are in the Loveland/FoCo area and are experienced with Garands and would be willing to show me what I'm doing wrong, I"d be happy to bring you a 6-pack of your choice and let you show me the error of my ways. All help really appreciated! Thanks!

dogcaller, You are trying to push the pin through, beginning on the same side as the operating rod handle - Right?
Perhaps it is just the way I am looking at it but can the operating rod catch assembly possibly be just a little bit crooked, blocking the pin to be fully seated.?
