I thought so. At the federal level it's about a 0.02% conviction rate.

I don't know anything of their conviction rate. I do know that the US Attorney's threshold for prosecution is generally pretty high. A few years ago, I investigated a tax fraud case where the feds were out over a million and the state was out around $80K and I ended up charging in the state as the AUSA wasn't interested.

    In 2010, the FBI
and state agencies denied a firearm to nearly 153,000 persons due to National Instant
Criminal Background Check System (NICS) records of felonies, domestic violence
    offenses, and other prohibiting factors.

I was denied at least 4 times last year because of my last name confusion. Are those rejections part of that number? I bet they are and it's an incredibly inflated number to help justify the system.

The first linked document shows only 72k denials for 2010, and 34k were felons, 14k were fugitives, and 7.7k violated state law.

That adds up to 55.7k, ~77% of the total. That's a big number of valid rejects. I'm actually surprised.

Is it really worth the resources at any level of government to prosecute these? Other than picking up people with active warrants...

The unconstitutional check worked as intended and prevented someone from exercising their right to bear arms with the blessing of the government overlords.

In 2010, that was 54,000 felons and other prohibited persons identified as committing a felony by lying on the Form 4473. That's 54k criminals who were left alone to get a gun some other way. If they were in prison, it isn't likely they would be committing crimes against society, especially with an illegally acquired gun. They left their name, address and phone number. How hard should it be to find them?
