Yetti is 100% correct and I didn't even realize that. Sure you pay sales tax when you buy your huffy (or whatever cyclists ride these days, haven't put my ass in that saddle for over 10 years), but fuel and DMV Registration goes almost exclusively to federal, state, county and city roads and maintenance.

Actually on HWY 66 (Squaw Pass Road) between Evergreen and Idaho Springs there are signs that show a car next to a bike and say share the road and others that ask cyclists to ride single file, and I know a couple of Clear Creek County Deputies who have stopped cyclists to give them warnings (because an actual citation with a fine would have been a big dick move) and kinda look out for them stating the dangers that come with riding on a widely used and narrow with large drop offs road. So no, they technically don't have to, but I know too many guys up here in the mountains that would be a bit more than peeved if they had to pull spandex clad remains out of the grilles of their trucks (and we're not talking your dad's old Cummins, we're talking big Mack dump trucks and end dumps).

Obviously i am now working on a turret mount for my road bike. And no I'm not a tree hugging hippie. OK, some cyclists are arrogant a-holes who could use a lesson but most don't deserve this immature bullshit!!

I DO pay extra...fuel tax and registration fees. As a kid I rode my bike everywhere, I still ride with my kids, and up here with all the blind corners and narrow shoulders, we get as far over as possible, and stop to allow cars to go by. Laws, regulations and all the other crap that you think protects you will not be worth shit in a car/truck vs. bicycle accident.

Most all bike riders drive cars and pay those taxes too. So the part about not paying taxes is not really a good line of thinking. Further bikes don't really damage roads like a Semi will.

    Either way.... check this out.

Ronin, I would also appreciate if you don't call me nynco-m-poop. I don't run around making childish jokes about your screen name and I pretty much give you respect always. So keep it above board. Respect man

Bicycles also don't keep your grocery stores stocked and your gas station from going dry. Truck drivers/companies should be exempt from taxes IMO.

Trucks tear up the road. Why should only cars pay? Everyone pays based on fuel consumption. Bigger uses more and beats the road harder. Sorry bad reasoning to me.

Are you not reading? Which part of this doesn't make sense?

Unless you want to go out and hunt all of your meat yourself, raise cattle for your burgers and milk, raise chickens for your drumsticks and eggs, and grow your own corn/wheat/rice/tobacco/etc.... you rely on trucks and the guys (and gals) who drive em to get you what you need. They contribute immensely to society, at the cost of a bit more wear and tear on the roads than your standard vehicle. Cars also wear the roads down, however they don't contribute to the well-being of society in doing so, so yes they should pay taxes to maintain them.

Sorry, I don't agree. Ironically, I bet you argue for a flat tax over a progressive tax rate too. Am I correct?

Um...what does this have to do with the OP?
While we are de-railed, can you name 5 things you use every day that weren't delivered by a truck?

Correct. A flat tax rate across all income groups or levels whatever you'd like to call them is a much better system than the BS we have now where the wealthy carry the country and the turds on welfare suck the life out of the system.
And before you ask, I'm on the low end of the spectrum. I've been unemployed for the last 9 months and didn't try to get welfare or food stamps or unemployment or anything like that, instead I spent my time and energy looking for a decent job and working odd jobs to be able to eat and pay bills. An old .22 was my means of food for a couple weeks there. I just got a job last week that pays $8 an hour, which is bullshit for someone with the experience, work ethic, and skill set that I have but this is what it's come to. Too bad the military doesn't start paying till after you ship out. Point is though, I'm not annoyed about the wealthy paying more taxes than the rest of us because I am one.
