Yeah, I've been thinking about adding the 9c or a shield to the rotation as well. I haven't had a chance to try the shield yet but I've heard that it has a better trigger than the 9c (or 40c). This is all the shooters personal preference of course. Anyone want weigh in on this? I have also heard that S&W might be putting the shield style trigger set up on the new M&P's and, as previously stated, the extra capacity and mag options of the 9c are a nice feature over the shield. Really want top give the M&P a shot (9c or 9 shield) so any advice/input on the pros/cons would be much appreciated. Is there much of a difference between the shield and compact besides the width?

If you get one with the safety and decide to remove it, here's a good instructional video. This guy is no gunsmith, but he demonstrates what you need to know to remove the safety:

He doesn't do it in this video, but installing the tiny polymer plugs in the holes was the hardest part IMHO; they fit very tight (held in by friction) and are hard to hold onto. Maybe I just have fat fingers. Good luck!

I carry a M&P 40c. I added Trijicon night sights and later added the CT laser. The mag in the gun is a 10rnd compact mag. The spare mag is a full size 15 rounder with the sleeve because if I have to go to mag #2, I'm in a world of shit.

CDNN has been selling M&Ps for about a year now. I got a full size this week in .357 with the 4.25" barrel for $399 + $23 for overnight FedEx. I like the fact that you can buy a drop in .40 barrel and be up in another cheaper caliber in under a minute. The .40 and .357 use the same mags. I need to look into the Apex trigger for the full size. For the carry gun, I think the factory trigger should suffice.

I just handled a Shield for the first time this evening. BluCore had just got one in before I left. The trigger is better than the M&P IMO. The Shield has a shorter take-up and smoother than the gritty M&P. Can't tell if the reset is any better.

I would choose a Shield for carry, but I already have a 4.25" and 5" fun gun in 9mm.

I absolutely love the Shield! Have 575 flawless rounds thru mine. It shoots better than I do and the recoil seems (to me, at least) to be comparable to a 9c that I rented. Have on order a Garrett Industries Silent thunder STX OWB holster in Coyote Brown; already have a K2 dual magazine carrier for it. Plan to get a full size later this year; hopefully by then they will have the Shield trigger shipping in the other M&P models. I put the rubberized Talon grips on it, and it feels fantastic.

Do you carry it with the safety disengaged? Or safety on? My sister just got a M&P40 Shield, and she LOVES it. When I first heard about them coming out, I suggested she go take a look at them and she absolutely fell in love.

Recently switched to a 5" M&P Pro with Apex trigger components for matches, and am very impressed with it. If the Performance Center sear I pulled out of the Pro works in a Shield, I'm all over it.

Love my M&P 9 4.25". Took some advice from FromK and got a APEX DCAEK along with the RAM. I have Ameriglo NS for it and it shoots amazing. The APEX components makes a world of a difference.

Recently picked up a 9c for carry and thinking of switching the NS and DCAEK kit over to it and buying the competition kit for my 4.25"

    Absolutely obsessed with these guns!

    The M&P pistols rock

I own three of them myself. They are very reliable and easy to work on. I am not an official "Gunsmith" but I have done about 30 M&P trigger jobs and they are always easy to work on and you can make a really kick ass trigger action. You can make an M&P trigger as good as a high end 1911 trigger job for a faction of the cost. $50 in parts and a few hours of elbow grease can produce a significantly reduced pre/over travel with a very crisp 2 - 2.5lb trigger pull.

For the USPSA competition shooters who like to compete in the Production division the M&P is a hard act to follow.
