Not an engineer, but I know what tree you're talking about... FLW was ultimate suck for me, we got rain that day, granted it was only a light rain but still moisture and CS mix is no bueno!

Ft Jackson - I think they must put trees outside every one.Much worse were the DI making sure everyone was suffering or they had to go back through (not me).

Christian "Bruce Wayne/Batman" Bale himself visited the victims at the Medical Center of Aurora today... what a great guy! I half expected this to happen, but now, well good on him! I have a ton more respect for him now!

Very cool! I have a lot of respect for people who show compassion for human life. I saw the facebook posts calling for him to visit, but I thought it would just be a facebook fad.

There was much talk of that on FB. I think it would be in bad taste and show poor judgement for him to show up in costume given the circumstances and how the nutcase shooter was dressed.
If someone had been injured in a non-traumatic, mass killing event, it might be appropriate.

Maybe I missed something but I haven't heard a single eyewitness say anything about "burning eyes", "hard to breath" or "tears" ...makes me think it was smoke. In fact, many of the witnesses have said "smoke". I suppose both can compromise your ability to fight back.
However, in this situation (or theoretical situations like this one) I would think that at some point during the madness and in the large crowds, the bad guy must have had his back to a good guy within arms reach. Even without a CCW, a person within arms reach at the bad guy's back could be very effective at fighting a shooter...especially one with a long gun.
In this real situation I wasn't there and can't ever say what I would do. There have been many stories of people helping other people and I applaud those that did help.
I am very impressed with the police and first responders. Their amazing quick response and the professional, effective communication I have heard from the radio transmissions was truly top notch.
