One of my favorite shows on Netflix. Vancouver is the sci-fi capital of the world. It's gotten to the point that I can recognize the actors in every show.
Lots of sci-fi is filmed up nort eh.
On a side note, on thurs. the 29th, Vikings new season !

Don't think it's a vikings related one. It's (if it's the one you're thinking) about Robert the Bruce.

Maybe The Last Kingdom? If so, it is based on a series of books by Bernard Cornwell- http://www.bernardcornwell.net/the-last-kingdom-series-formerly-the-warrior-chroniclessaxon-stories/
Cornwell is best known for his Richard Sharpe stories based on the British Army in India and during the Napoleonic wars in Portugal, Spain, and Belgium. He is an excellent historical fiction writer IMO and if you can get past the formulaic mode of his writing, and have a love for history, the books are well worth the read.
I haven't seen all of the film adaptation of his books. Most of them do a poor job of finding actors who actually look/sound anything like the characters in the books.

Yep. Last Kingdom. That's it.
Liked the previous season well enough but I'm just not getting it this year. Two episodes in & I don't know or care what's happening.

Just finished 'Altered Carbon'. Story line is well done, some thought provoking ideas. Overall, a good series.
Currently on Season-3 of 'Luther', Idris Elba as a British detective. Outstanding series with a defective detective and an overarching good vs. evil, with a splash of Holmes vs. Moriarty twist. The episodes are not entirely stand-alone, you really need to start from the beginning.

If you like Anime, ONE PUNCH MAN doesn't suck. Friend of mine told me they just announced a second season which is how I found out about it. I don't have to wait 4 years like the rest. Netflix. Ha!
Friend showed my One Punch Man. It's great if you have anime experience. There is another Netflix original called Ajin that is fantastic. I've recommend it before, but it was before you were around. Two seasons of Ajin. Ajin is more modern guns than martial arts.

Season 4 is suppose to be a 2 hr show, like the Sherlock Holmes on PBS were. I'm hoping they do a 4-5 hour in 1 hr episodes.
Luther is another one of those sleeper shows only the brits can do well.
Idris Elba was good as Stringer Bell in The Wire, he hasn't disappointed in this or a few others things we've seen him in.

I don't think its a requirement, though it would certainly give context to the parodies of all the characters. If someone doesn't know, I don't think it takes away from the brilliant interest & disinterest of hero from Saitama. Plus the mostly subtle adult humor is refreshing. I like all the random images in the opening credits that have absolutely nothing to do with the tv series too. Just good fun.

D for Dark. How about absolutely insane laced with lots of F bombs. I was surprised it actually played on SyFy w/ no censor bleeps. If you just started watching it gets darker, like real dark. And wayyy out there. I had a hard time watching some of it .

Just saw Aquaman in theaters as a treat for the wife. I have two observations.
1) The movie was basically a very long Five Gum commercial.
2) It's a real shame Jason Mamoa can't be cast in better movies. Even in movies (like this one) with better actors (William DeFoe and Nicole Kidman) everyone acts worse than him. It's very weird. He might not have the most range, but it feels like he's a better actor than he gets a chance at. Kind of like The Rock, Dwane Johnson.

The new Netflix series 'The Haunting of Hill House' has been really good thus far. The acting is actually very well done, the story has been very enjoyable, the makeup, costuming has been stellar. If you enjoy horror movies and the like, would probably really like this one.
A little over half way through and loving it. Best scary movie/show I've seen in a while. It feels like a few of the scenes were pulled straight out of my head. One scene was so close to an idea I had for a creepy scene that I got excited and forgot to be scared. Excellent.

Just started a new show called Letterkenny. It's a Canadian small town comedy, like Corner Gas but on meth. Here's the description:
The residents of Letterkenny belong to one of three groups: Hicks, Skids, and Hockey Players. The three groups are constantly feuding with each other over seemingly trivial matters; often ending with someone getting their ass kicked.
This could be pretty decent...
Just watched "Polar" on Netflix. Not the best but if you just want to be entertained without having to think too much it isn't bad. A little bit reminiscent of the John Wick movies. Sort of.
Also, got roped into watching this show on Amazon called "The Marcelous Mrs. Maisel". My wife has friends over and they decided to watch it so by default I had to endure it. First I thought it might make me want to gouge my eyes out but once we started watching it I found it was mildly entertaining. I suppose if you're like me and like to indulge your significant other by watching something kind of girly you could do worse.

Watching Ajin: Demi-Human again. It's an anime that takes place in modern times with modern weapons. I've recommend it before, but it's so good I'll recommend it again, to those who can do animation. I figured I’d watch Solo on Netflix since I haven’t seen it yet. I went in with low expectations but came out really impressed. I’d say it’s the fourth best Star Wars movie; not quite as good as episodes 4-6, but slightly better than Rogue One (which was way better than any of the other new ones).

The Komisky Method. Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin and [Love1] Nancy Travis (from Last Man Standing).
This one's geared towards the 50 & over crowd. or as well call it "Mature Audiences"
We watched it, because, why not? The preview seemed interesting, but not enough to say, Yeah let's watch it.
If you're over 50 you'll definitely get the humor / jokes. If not you'll either dislike it, or watch to see where it goes.
AND if you like LMS, picture Nancy Travis uncensored..

Just finished 'The Umbrella Academy'. I was pleasantly surprised. It's entertaining, quirky, and a good story line.
It's nice to see Ellen Page, she's an incredible actress.
I felt like The Umbrella Academy could have been better, but it was certainly good enough. I'm having trouble figuring out what #4's power is supposed to be though. I'm most of the way through The Order now. It's a terrible show. Basically Charmed 2019, but with the F-word. Just as bad acting, just as bad plot holes, and surprisingly just as bad special effects. I'm pot committed though.

Must be really bad if you're having to get high to watch it.
I was kind of drunk when I started watching it and my wife came in and in two seconds of watching said, "So is this Charmed 2019?" My kid watched all eight seasons of Charmed and everyone in the house knows it's my new measure of what a bad show is. Just like Avatar for movies.

Just watched this. I enjoyed it and thought it was pretty decent for a Netflix movie. Worth watching.
Trying to talk the wife into it.
Just started MeatEater on Netflix. Not much of a hunter but great cinematography.
You learn a whole lot from that show.
ETA: They made a rule early on that if it doesn't happen on camera, it didn't happen. So there is an episode where Steve is hunting elk in Alaska with Remi Warren. It's a ho-hum episode. During the filming of that, the crew was attacked by a grizzly bear, but there isn't a peep about it in the episode. There is a two part podcast all about it though.

Agreed, I watched Triple Frontier last night. Good cast, great locations, not your typical story. Now just waiting for The Highwaymen to drop.
Triple Frontier was good. It's irritating when obviously knuckle headed stuff leads to obvious knuckle head results. Otherwise pretty good. I'm expecting a sequel.
Currently watching Hemlock Grove. It's interesting....some paranormal, evil corporation, biological engineering, greed stuff. Starring Famke Janssen. Who would be stunning even in a potato sack.
Did I mention it stars Famke Janssen? [Coffee]
We watched Sugarloaf Mountain last night.
You can tell from the description that it's one of those movies where the plot is driven by increasingly poor decisions, whatever that genre is called. That's not a spoiler. They do a good job with that and there is some dark stuff in it. Overall it was pretty good.
I watched the Expanse, all three seasons. I was never a Battlestar Galactica fan, so I can't compare. I stopped watching when Lorne Green was Adama.
It had some interesting episodes, but overall not particularly compelling IMHO. The whole proto-molecule-dead-detective-ancient-portal-space-warfare-random-plot-changes left a lot of loose ends.
Just finished The Dirt on Netflix. If you?re a fan of Motley Crue it isn?t too bad.

The books were a good read, really goes in to a lot of Miller's background and even more interaction with the daughter / proto stuff
The Updated version of BSG was (imo) very good, with E.J Olmos as Adama.
And i agree Famke Janssen would look good even doing mime in a dark room.

I felt like The Umbrella Academy could have been better, but it was certainly good enough. I'm having trouble figuring out what #4's power is supposed to be though. Watched it with my kid and we're waiting for season two. I describe as Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events but with super powers, some swearing, and less fancy words.
I'm most of the way through The Order now. It's a terrible show. Basically Charmed 2019, but with the F-word. Just as bad acting, just as bad plot holes, and surprisingly just as bad special effects. I'm pot committed though.
AS i suggest you and others try getting past the first 2-3 episodes of some things on NF before it gets moving.
I'm hoping someone here says the same for continuing to watch The Umbrella Academy . It seems (so far) like an adolescent, yet weak, copy of The Watchmen
Ellen Page who hasn't shown me she can do anything but brood and frown, reinforces why we don't care for her.
Hmmmm, I'd say you're about right. For edgy, dark, or adult, there are better super hero shows.
Love, death and robots. 18 different stories with some Amazing animation. The Secret War really stands out.
Every time I see that preview I declare out loud how I'm going to watch that show, then I keep forgetting.
Ummmmm......yeah. No idea what a hooplehead is, or what Deadwood is.
I wish I could go back and rewatch the first 3 seasons of Deadwood for the first time again.
it was an HBO western series about ten years ago that was set in the town of Deadwood, SD. The series was known for fantastic acting (it basically made Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane A-listers), great writing, copious levels of swearing, and really well executed set design and costuming.
It was also well known for having the series end on a cliffhanger right before what was going to be a serious confrontation.

Deadwood also mixes in a few historical facts about the Dakota territories and the town itself. If you're offended by cursing and the work fuck, like used a lot, Deadwood is a series to avoid.
Ian McShane was good in an old british series on pbs called Lovejoy.

Single most brilliant ending to a season of a TV show that I've ever seen.

Honestly, I was excited for this show from the description.
But my god... it makes no sense. The "astronauts" sent on a mission to make first contact with an alien species and possibly save earth are whiny teenagers that wouldn't be out of place in a highschool comedy. There are no uniforms, party clothes will do, and there's a guy in the ship wearing high heels and leather pants?

I expect to be disappointed by at least 2 of those 3.
I just finished the newest and final season of "Orange Is The New Black" on netflix - meh. Also watched S2 of "Deep State" on Epix (free preview this past weekend), and it was meh.
Starz has some good series like "Outlander" but nothing new going on right now.
S2 of AC should be along soon.
I've been looking forward to AC S2. I hope it's as good as the first. Once I got into the premise of the alien tech, I was hooked. The philosophical/social/moral/religious questions it created I found interesting.
I was also checking in on the Epix content over the free weekend. It sure didn't seem like Epix was worth paying for.

Its been a month since I cancelled Directv. I had everything too, all premiums, all sports packages, et. al & I don't miss it, not even a little.
Altered Carbon was the best.
Wife gets discounted Dish since that's where she works. I find that I'm using my Fire TV 4K sticks more often than I expected. A chunk of that though is that some of the content is made available through the Dish subscription. If you're leasing equipment for some of your TV locations, buying a Fire TV stick to get the content may be a better option.

I have basic internet (no phone, box etc) using the fire stick and download free apps to watch shows. My Roku was the same deal with apps, but it stopped working.
Most of the free apps for standard tv are garbage, unless you upgrade to their "Silver or Gold" premium packages.
I could care less for a single sports channel, let alone OVER A DOZEN To CHOOSE FROM!

This I can relate to. I used to enjoy sports when it was just 2 teams doing their best to outperform the other. When they went activist, they lost me.

That tends to ruin a lot of stuff.

That’s why hockey is the best sport.
We cancelled Netflix and enrolled in Sling. Traded passwords with a friend (our sling for his netflix). Have hulu with our cell plan, and prime video with our prime subscription. I have a login for HBO, STARZ, Cinemax, etc, but really dont use them often. Of everything, we watch Live PD or Live rescue most consistently.

Sling is primary here, but Netflix is a close second. I'm a live pd whore, love it.
