Our household DVRs and watches Live PD consistently. One of the few shows we watch regularly. We do like to watch it from the DVR as those 4 minute commercial breaks are a drag.

We cancelled Netflix and enrolled in Sling. Traded passwords with a friend (our sling for his netflix). Have hulu with our cell plan, and prime video with our prime subscription. I have a login for HBO, STARZ, Cinemax, etc, but really dont use them often. Of everything, we watch Live PD or Live rescue most consistently.

What does sling have over hulu or other Pay per month app?

Access to cable networks. AMC, Paramount, Discovery, History, BBCAm, USA etc. Hulu only has a few shows from selected cable or broadcast networks, and often not the current season's episodes as they air. You can pay to add those to Hulu via Hulu + Live-TV, but they don't come in the base Hulu package.

I have Prime, Netflix and Hulu, but still watch current episodes of most cable series on Sling.

Wifey & I started watching The Boys. It's a really interesting take on the superhero genre. We see it as 'what if those with superpowers gave in to human nature'. It's dark, but interesting.

If Amazon keeps it up, they may overtake Netflix in original content.

Been watching The Expanse after seeing it being continuously recommended everywhere.

The world building is top rate.

I don't like a single character on the show except for Prax. Every other main character is either a psychopath, narcissist, or boring.

I'm into season 3, and at this point I'm just hate watching it until the end.

Also been watching the HD re-release of the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon. This is my second time through it, and the HD remaster makes the show much more watchable; watching it on DVD on an HDTV gave it that weird, glossy soap opera vibe. In HD, it's much more like watching a real movie. Also, some of the effects shots have been updated as well.

If you're the least bit curious about the Apollo program, its a definite watch.

I loved From the Earth to the Moon. I'll have to re-watch it. Is the re-mastered version being streamed by HBO?

"Hate watching" was a new one for me. They'll just chalk that up to someone liking that type of content in their statistics. Maybe you'll have many more options for "hate watching"? [Coffee]

Yes, the remastered version is on HBO.

If all I did was hate watch movies and TV, it would a full time job three times over owing to the fact that movies and tv seem to all be written by and for mouth-breathing dimwits these days.

For the most part, I'm finding that when I do get to actually watch a movie of my own choosing, I'm gravitating more and more to stuff that was made in the 1970s.

"Good Omens" is a fun show on Amazon Prime. If you enjoy Terry Pratchett (or other British humor), you'll like it.

I saw it browsing through FireTV Saturday evening and binged all six episodes that night. I liked it. The wife said it was weird.

David Tennant and Mike Scheen are great. Nick Offerman and all the cast are great.

Agree. What i'm disappointed in is the new Dr whoette was good in the bbc series Broadchurch. Hoping she'd bring some of that in to Dr. Who. Sadly it didn't happen.
What i find more ludicrous is. Here's a british show trying (IMO) to lecture and preach to me / us about how bad America was through some of the incidents of history. Not only that, the liberties they took with (again IMO) with some of the stereotypical characters was pathetic.

One would believe some of the people involved still had a bad taste in their mouth over that whole colonies revolting 1776 thing. Plus in complete denial how bad the british empire was to anyone other than to the "manor born"

They pushed it a little in Good Omens.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse became: War (Red Horse), Famine(Black Horse), Death(Pale Horse), and get this... Pollution (should be disease/pestilence (White Horse)) .

They also had one or two anti gun lines, but it was more subtle than Dr. Who. There may have been more that I missed as I was bing watching and multitasking a little too on some beers.

Pestilence retired, remember. One of the actors in G.O (Mark Gatiss) was one of the writers for the later Dr. Who series, and played Mycroft in the PBS Sherlock Holmes series.

Changing Pestilence to Pollution was a plot point in the original novel the series is based on, so that's not something that was inserted as a deliberate statement, at least not by the creators of the miniseries.

I like the overall theme of The Boys. The inconsistency of the laser eyes bothers me, but that's about it so far.

Reminds me a bit of Brandon Sanderson's SteelHeart, but a little darker.

I think they take the idea in an interesting direction with the military connection, but I'm surprised that no one has drawn a connection to police brutality and gotten butt hurt over it.

Also, who is the character A-train based on? Is that a real super hero from some comic? Rick and Morty had Alan Rails in one episode, but I'm so far out of the super hero loop that I don't know who is making fun of whom.

Second season of Mindhunter is ok. Some worthwhile character development. Watchable but not as good as the first year imo.

At least they didnt hump it half as badly as what happened to True Detective in it's second season. That was truly a disappointment & the measure I use now for all second seasons...

Really hoping Altered Carbon fares because that is another show I look forward to (whenever that release will be...)

I don't think I have an issue with things that are meta in general. In this case, the premise is that they were in space for the last 30 years and when they arrive back at home, they find out that their favorite show is no longer on the air. So they want to get their favorite show back and go on and on about how many people miss the show and blah blah blah.

So I really liked how well they created the fantasy world as far as the costumes. It's pretty PC, but it's easy to be forgiving of that given the different races interacting. In the end, it was all pretty predictable and the negatives that I spent a lot of time down playing or ignoring were just too much. It's got everything but great writing. Jack Ryan Season 2 was OK. I had some real issues relative to the time it takes to travel (as in how does the team on the ground in the jungle get to the camp before the truck?).

Roads are on switchbacks, while patrol cuts across.

Either way, as Chris Hardwick said when someone over analyzed one of the TWD shows.
Hey it's a t.v. show, not a documentary

I was ok with that, since they've put themselves in the position of having to explain how bounty hunters do their stuff, what kind of culture the Mandalorians have, and how it all fits into the broader Star Wars universe.

I like that the show basically looks like it's going to be kind of a Man with No Name/Wandering Samurai type of setup.

I absolutely hated it. I guess they blew their budget on Ryan Reynolds and pyrotechnics (...and I like Ryan Reynolds (except for Green Lantern)). They sure didn't have a very good storyline. Continuity sucked (don't focus on the close call with the neon green getaway car (yeah, you blend) mirror being ripped off to only have it return in the next shot...then disappear...and it's back...and it's gone again...(same for the driver's hat)). Product placement extraordinaire, including Reynold's Aviation Gin. I just need to see that it's Michael Bay and walk away. He just defies my ability to suspend disbelief.

As Deadpool as they tried to make the timeline and carnage, it just didn't work in this flick.

"I've been really unimpressed with The Expanse outside of the general world building." - Yeah, I had to force myself to finish season-3, and start season-4. Season-4 is much better. Give it 2-episodes, I think you'll like it.

Watched "6-Underground". Continuity was poor (as noted above) a lot of neon, unlikely technical capabilities, laws of physics violated.... better as background noise than a sit-down-and-watch movie.

Season 4 of The Expanse was good enough to finally edge out Battlestar Galactica as the best sci-fi show - and my favorite show - of all time. Amos is one of the most interesting characters of all time and I can’t think of any others off the top of my head that are comparable. He’s the rare original idea to come out of Hollywood/Vancouver, even if he was originally a book character.

If you like fantasy, The Witcher is surprisingly good (not for the kiddos). I was apprehensive about someone new doing Geralt, being used to the voice actor in the games, but Cavill (I think is the guy) does a decent gruff voice. Timeline's a bit confusing, but starts to make sense as episodes pass. I'm also disappointed they didn't have a fiery redhead as Triss, and his wolfhead medallion's kinda boring, but other than that it's fun.

To be fair, a lot of the lore behind The Witcher is basically that the rites that witchers undergo deadens their emotions. You'll see that most people think that they're cold and unfeeling, but you quickly realize that Geralt (and others) actually have even deeper emotions, they just don't show them outwardly all the time.

Sorry that I neglected to say that I did thoroughly enjoy the NETFLIX production, “Messiah”. It was very entertaining and even the CIA was heavily involved. Medical Police on Netflix is a direct spin off of Childrens Hospital on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. If you like Adult Swim stuff, it's right on the mark.

I tried watching Medical Police. Didn't like it at all. I figured they shot their budget on Henry Winkler, or Henry Winkler will do anything for a buck.

If anyone hasn?t watched Shameless the wife and I find it pretty entertaining. (Haven?t tried the original British version, speaking of the U.S. version from Showtime) Probably William H. Macey?s best work.

It looks like the first nine seasons are available on Netflix.

I started watching Shameless and really liked it, but then I saw how many seasons and stopped watching. This is exactly the show I was thinking of in the Walking Dead thread where I was saying I tend to check out of shows that run a long time.

The difference (for me) is that Shameless hasn?t gotten stagnant and has been pretty consistent throughout its run.

I had watched it up to when the main character Fiona left. Is it still a good show without her ?

We're into a few new shows. A couple are pretty good even:

The Outsider on HBO is a supernatural thriller based on a Stephen King story.

McMillions on HBO is really good. McDonald's Monopoly scandal.

True Detective on HBO. We just started watching season one. The wife is hooked.

Texas Rising is a miniseries on Amazon about Sam Houston vs Santa Ana. Pretty good stuff.

The Feed on Amazon is interesting. I won't go so far as to say I like it but it's interesting. The gist of it is in the near future, people have their social media feed hard-wired to their brain. Bad stuff starts to happen.

It's just not your genre. People like Henry Winkler do shows like that for fun and to be funny. Jason Schwatzman, Michael Cera, Joel McHale, and John Hamm are in there as well.

I love comedy/spoof/parody. I also like medical/forensic/law enforcement stuff. I just felt like I was being clobbered over the head with the punch lines, like I might not be able to figure anything out otherwise. At least they weren't using a laugh track. [Coffee]

We are part way through Season 2. I find it very entertaining as well. Tony Shalhoub as Abe Weissman is genius. And the lovely Rachel Brosnahan as Mrs Maisel, I had never heard of her before but she shines in this period comedy.

Spot on. I dismissed it as "chick TV"...but I was wrong. Or, maybe it is. Regardless, it was very well done and I enjoyed all 3 seasons.

It's very ethnic and surprised people outside the east coast enjoyed the NY jewish humor, or even got some of it.

They did a good job with the Lenny Bruce character. And for those who remember, The Miami After Dark was a great play on Playboy After Dark.

The new season of Altered Carbon was a let down. The only character I cared about, good or bad, was Poe. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either - it was completely forgettable.

I have been pleasantly surprised with Hunters after four episodes.

The Westworld season three premier was awesome.

When I watched the recap of season 1, it had stuff I didn't remember to the point where I wondered how what I remembered was so vastly different than what was presented, immediate turn off for me so I didn't even watch season 2, my spider sense is good like that. Same thing with Westworld, but with WW they just waited too long between seasons to where I didn't even remember more than a broad overview of the theme.
