The self-identified democrat that spoke earlier as an opponent to this bill put forth the most relevant point in citing DC v. Heller: SCOTUS has already upheld the Second Amendment protects that which is in common use by the militia (and implicitly the military). 30-round magazines are standard capacity, and in common use. If this goes through, we need a challenge as to its constitutionality.

Bert asked to be recognized
That was infact me guys.
I am pretty pissed and dismayed with our political process right now, take a day off of work and shut down the shop this afternoon and spend 12 hours patiently waiting to voice an intelligent retort.
Politely ask to be recognized only to be told "No".
Not that it would do any good.
Here is what I was going to throw on the table:
Ladies andGentlemen of the Judiciary Committee, good morning and thank you for the opportunityto address you.[
I would liketo introduce myself, my name is Robert XXXXXXXXX and I am a native to the state ofColorado, and a professional in the firearmsindustry (gunsmith). I feel I am qualified to speak on the subject of firearmswith fact based knowledge and authority, which unfortunately many of ourelected representatives cannot do. Instead they focus on mis-information, mediaspin and outright falsehoods.
Before I getto the body of the subject matter, I would like to pose a simple and logicalquestion to you. I would like an honest answer, but I do ask you refrain fromanswering until I have concluded my statement to you today.
The questionis: “How can you hope to change human behavior by regulating an inanimate, mechanical object”?
We are allshocked and horrified when we hear of heinous atrocities committed bymaladjusted and sick individuals. We all want answers and a stop to themeaningless loss of life we see.
To those ofyou that have suffered a loss due to these atrocities, you have my sincerestemotional empathy and condolences for your loss. I as well have had to feel the pain and sufferthe loss of a loved one due to unnecessary violence. However I do not share cognitive empathy withthose that feel a firearm is to blame for their loss.
To the Sarah Brady’s, Tom Mausers and Representative RhondaFields of our society you need to face the reality that a firearm did not takethe lives of those you hold so dearly, rather their lives were taken by themost viscous of animals to walk this earth, a human being. If one chooses to take the stance that a firearm kills, thenwe must apply that logic however flawed to other aspects of our society. For example, and these statistics come directly from theAmerican Medical Association and they are recent statistics: On an annual basisthere are on average 106,000 fatal adverse medication events. But do we hear anoutcry to ban the medications? There are on average 4000 fatal surgical eventsannually. But again, do we hear irrational tirades and pleas to ban thescalpel? It is an illogical and emotion based stance to blame afirearm for a humans actions, some may even say it is an ignorant stance. To truly promote public safety we need to ask the onequestion I have yet to hear asked by any elected official and any lawenforcement official. And the reason we don’t hear it is because it is the reallytough question to ask: Why do these individuals feel that these horrific actsare the only way to leave their mark in society? We find theanswer to that and we can begin to take meaningful steps to reduce the senselessloss of life at the hands of aberrations of society.
We have lostour moral compass within our society.
We have seenof late the actions of the anti firearm factions and they are chomping at thebit and foaming at the mouth at any opportunity to introduce emotion based andknee jerk reactionary proposals.
(HOLD UPPIC)
I am holdingup a print of the perpetrators of Aurora, Sandy Hook and Tucson.
You mean totell me that we are going to base our public policies and Rights on the actionsof a handful of mentally ill individuals? If so then we have the wrong people representing us.
Immediatelyafter the Aurora incident the Honorable Governor of our state, JohnHickenlooper amazed me with a logical and well grounded statement: “ I don’tfeel any amount of laws would have prevented this individual from doing what hedid” Those were the words of a true leader, thank you Mr. Governor.
And yet someof the first words from the author of HB 1224 after this same atrocity were “Weneed a ban, I am not sure what yet, but we need a ban”. Reckless andirresponsible statements from an elected representative to say the least.
We areseeing proposals driven by emotion rather than facts. While we are on thesubject of facts let’s look at a few.
1994 to20004 was the period of time where the “Clinton” AW and LCFD ban was in place. After the sunset of this ban in September of 2004 there were numerous inquiriesand hearings held with just about any and all governmental entities and lawenforcement organizations. The results of these hearings? Very few banned itemswere even involved in criminal activities. There was no credible evidence of areduction in firearm related crimes. Therefore the ban was not re-instated.
Bans do notwork.
If they wereeffective then Columbine would not have occurred nor would Virginia Tech haveoccurred. Both incidents occurred during the era of the Clinton AW and LCFDban. A ban would not have changed the outcome of Aurora either, as the majorityof loss of life was attributed to a pump action shotgun.
Bans do notwork. Criminals and mentally ill individuals do not care about bans, backgroundchecks or liability concerns.
Theproposals we have seen introduced will do nothing to deter deranged individualsand those with criminal intent from perpetrating their acts. What they will dois infringe further on the God given rights of law abiding citizens that have committedno crime or criminal act. We have over 30,000 laws and regulations pertainingto firearms on the books at a Federal and State level. How about we direct ourefforts at enforcing the laws we have instead of burdening the law abidingcitizen further?
In closing Iwould like to quote a notable, American educated military leader whom uponlearning the declaration of war upon the United States was delivered an hourafter the attack on Pearl Harbor Isoruku Yamamoto said: “I fear all we havedone is awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve”
Thesupporters of our God given rights are awake, be it the 1st, 2cnd orany other rights.
And we areresolved to keep and protect our rights.
I implore thiscommittee to effectively kill any and all proposals that would do nothing topromote public safety and will only serve to infringe and restrict the freedomsof law abiding citizens.
This wouldinclude HB’s 1224, 1228 and 1229.
And back tothe question I asked earlier, does anybody have an answer?
I didn’t think so
Thank You

I think that we should separate Colorado into two separate stats. Western Colorado, and one that is shaped like a dick that encompasses the greater Denver area. Then we can all move to the rational Colorado and start acting like Wyoming.

Good idea, we can do the same thing to the country. I'd like to see the left coasts get along without the middle.
I left at 7:45 to get home to the dogs so I didn't get to say what I wanted to say. This sucks! However, we have a much better chance in the Senate. They have a much smaller majority there.
