It was these (Pro series) or Global and I wasn't finding a set I liked with Global. Global is super nice (fingered a few a friend had) but these are top rated. I probably spent more than I should for knives, but getting new stuff for the new kitchen is addictive. Squirrel!

Shamed all the other knives into getting sharpened today. Broke out the Ken Onion Work Sharp and had a marathon session. I had one old hard chrome knife that took a ton of work. Hard ass steel so hopefully it will hold an edge longer.

Over the past years I've dabbled quite a bit in the culinary arts and always wanted a nice set of blades for the kitchen. Maybe once we get the remodel done, I will splurge and get a set.

For what it's worth I've been quite happy with my Victorinox Fibrox knives. You can buy them here and there as need or sales dictate and you will end up with a set of knives that work quite well and last. Just upgrade a knife every few months with something like those or what he has and before you know it you'll have a full set over time. Buying the whole set at once is certainly nice but a little more of a strain on the utensil budget. If you don't splurge for a whole set at once that includes a block you can also get a wall-mounted stainless steel dohicky to slap them on for storage. Easy access when you need them and you won't have a bunch of empty slots in a block while you acquire your set to fill them.

Very nice. Good knives are fundamental to efficient food prep and meat cutting. When we got a no-cost refi on our house about 15 yrs ago, the bank gave us a bonus gift, a 20 pc set of Henckels Pro S, and we've added a few to the set. They were just under $500 then, and now about twice that but worth every penny. When we visit the farm and have to use the old cheapie serrated knives, I just hate them. I keep looking for a special deal on a 20 or 26 knife block set, and one of these days....

I meant to say when I first saw this post that you may want to lose that honing steel. Those textured ones will destroy your edge and require more frequent sharping to keep the edge sharp. If you can find one, the smooth steels work much better for honing but take a few more strokes to straighten the edge so over the years it's become more difficult to find smooth steels. If you search forums where people know way more about knives than me they will often talk of how these textured steels play hell on knives. I'm not sure why trusted knife makers still include them with their sets if that's the case though. *shrugs*

A little over 300 rounds thus far, it is a great shooter. It has the Lagdon trigger job and I am pretty jazzed with it !

I have a Longs Shadow Huron holster ordered for it and will be running some IDPA stuff with it soon.

Narrower footprint for tighter spaces, and basically a small gear reduction providing more power for cutting. You can modify a worm dive and use larger blades 10.25 and up or chainsaw conversion for large beam cutting

I have an older one like that. It seems backasswards to me. I think I need to be left handed and cross eyed to use it right. And it''s a heavy SOB but it does keep the plywood pressed to the sawhorses. It's my circular saw of last resort. I probably don't know how to use it because I'm not left handed and cross eyed.

I'm up to three different drills now (including one impact) that I like to use when building things. It's just easier to have a drill for making pilot holes and an impact for driving screws. However, ever since I saw a powered screw driver, it seemed like a really nice thing to have for quickly removing screws like when changing outlets and stuff, but where a full size drill would be overkill. I went and bought this a while ago and I hate it. It's not that it's Ryobi, it's just that it misses the mark. So don't buy one of these.

I've found that while I have a bevy of 20v Dewalt drills and tools the ones I reach for most often are my 12v line. They're light and compact but also very robust and still get the job done. If you recall the picture I posted many years back of the large built-in bench I built in my garage I used my little 12v Dewalt drill to set all of those 3" screws. It didn't miss a beat. I only reach for the 20v stuff when I've got a massive project and need the extra oomph but mostly the added run time from the larger battery.

All you need for wall outlets and covers is a couple of these. Did several years of apprenticeship in the home const. trade without power tools.
I know, it was in the mid 80?s and power tools were virtually non-existent.

Can't a guy own/use both? I do and my wobble screwdrivers are still on my belt (along w/my 12v Dewalt impact drill) which I still have set up out in the garage years after being in the trade. Whenever I do electrical work around the house (w/o a permit of course and always hot!) I'm thankful I still have that setup and don't have to play "Pocket Electrician" while doing shade-tree sparky work. I would never use a drill on a receptacle cover but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's uses it also means that just because you use one doesn't mean you can't use one of those whiz-bang items you pictured. Hell, the real purist would say that your wobble isn't as good as the old fashioned straight job. lol

SideShow Bob

If I were still doing electrical const. Yes, I would have modern cordless power tools. I use cordless power tools almost every day at work, every truck has a drill and sawzall. But for home owner and occasional electrical maintenance, it takes more time to break out the cordless than it does to take care of the problem.

I knew I would appreciate the impact for driving screws, just not how much more.

The multi tool has become indispensable with the recent rework I've had to do here.

My 8 year old got a Fender Squire for Christmas. Maybe you two could jam!

As to drills, I cannot speak highly enough of the Milwaukee M12 line. They are inexpensive, ubiquitous, durable for home use, and the line is pretty comprehensive. I gave away my Dewalt and Makita 18v set and standardized around the M12 about five or six years ago. Drill, impact driver, multi-master knock off, 3/8s and 1/2 ratchets, jigsaw (that one sort of sucks, in the way most jigsaws do), soldering iron, and a couple of flashlights. Very satisfied with all of them. I kept my Dewalt corded drill, and I have a couple of Milwaukee corded drills as well for either grunt or dedicated purposes. But it is very rare that I reach for them.

IMO the 12v Milwaukee & Dewalt stuff is some of the best stuff you can buy as a homeowner. I think the M12 & Dewalt are both outstanding and you can pretty much flip a coin on which ecosystem to get involved with if you're looking to completely change over. Some tools in one line perform slightly better than the same tool from the other manufacturer so choose based on whichever you personally will use more or pros/cons of said tool. For me, being an electrician, our whole crew & most other construction crews we worked alongside used Dewalt so this was quite handy if you ever needed to borrow a battery or something. Just shout 12v or 20v and someone would toss you a battery. I've seen crews that were all red Milwaukee but, at least up here in the Northern Colorado/SE Wyoming area, it was mostly yellow & black. I don't get into the debates too much because I feel like they're both solid offerings and the 12v line the perfect balance of performance and size/weight out there for most users.

Don't really have a picture to post, but Thursday night, we booked our trip to Spain. It was our New Years resolution to ourselves and we just so happen to find a deal on Gate1. I've never been outside of the country before so this should be interesting. Any one traveled there before that has some tips? For the most part, it's a guided trip and we will be staying in Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Granada, Valencia and Barcelona.

1. Don't keep anything of value in your pockets - get a neck/waistband that goes under your clothes.

2. Get pocket dictionaries in both Spanish and Catalan.

3. Avoid wearing clothing with either Spanish or Catalonia flags on them.

4. Take good comfortable shoes with ankle support.

5. Take lots of pics.

6. Carry a believable fake wallet. (See above 1.)

If you get surrounded by a large group of children, it's because you're being robbed.

ETA: Don't mean to frighten you or anything. Your trip will have way more good than bad and this is just to keep you safe so you can enjoy the trip without having to spend the time to replace wallets/purses half the trip.

The aquaduct in Segovia is breath taking. Spanish uses different words for some items from Mexican spanish, juice is one of those. Puppy at Gugenheim is the only modern art that spoke to me. The Catalans are stupid friendly.
If you go to Mallorca go to the back side of the island and enjoy the beach around Can Picaford, it is UNFIGGINGBELIVABLE. Stay out of Palma it's a weekend party spot on Fri and Sat so you won't get any sleep.
Oh and Spaniards had lots of nice leather goods for hunting. I bought my dad a bag or belt for shotgun hunting. Madrid sucked as the air pollution was beyond belief. Note, my info is close to 20 years old, so buter beware.

Go to the very large Sears store in Madrid...like the 5th or 6th floor. Best hamburgers in the world. No kidding.

Of course...that was from 1970 so things may have changed a little.

Picked up another one of these for my G26. I find myself using this holster more than any other one. BlackHawk TecGrip. I think the one I have now for my snubby and single stack autos is probably six years old and still holding up great.

I made myself a bet that the next new gun I purchased, I couldn?t use any of my current funds, it had to be new funds. My GF gave me the idea as her and her mother have a small business selling old things. I purged through all my stuff and was able to raise $545 of the $558 I needed. Ebay hit me with $59 in sales fees and PayPal hit me with some too, but I still feel like I won. Anyways, picked up the GP100?s big brother, 6? model.

These strips just stick on the underside of the fixture in the same place the T8 bulb would be. I suppose you could put them inside a fixture like you'd find in an office or something.

I removed the ballast and tombstones (not required...but looks better), hooked up the power to the LED power supply box (that fits inside the fixture just like the old ballast), put the cover back on and then stuck the magnetic light strips on the fixture cover.

Hard to tell from the photo how much brighter they are:

Really good deal on Amazon right now, $147 for the pair. Cheapest I could find other than that is $225. I need them to hold up the rear end of my rock crawler so I can remove the axle. I was going to build a stand but the metal alone would have cost me almost $100.

I love it. I picked up the scorpion the month they came out for dirt cheap with some horse trading and decided to SBR right away. It is an excellent SBR but the K config seals the deal especially if you are running a suppressor. It balances perfectly now with my honking F1 can. In the standard SBR config, it was a tad noise heavy for my liking. I didn't think of the M-LOK rails till after it was put together but amazon had those on prime which will be here Sunday.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have left it as a pistol with a nice brace and not dealt with the $200 infringement fee. My buddy picked one up with the tail hook and I would have gladly kept my $200 to use else where vs having the factory folder on it, but in the end, it's a sweet PDW rig. Can't wait for Magpul to release their line for the Scorpions.

I saw the Magpul line - but right when I bought the Scorpion, I put the Apex grip and the ProStock mag release on it, so not much there for me right now. Might do the K conversion before I SBR it.

Those are so 2015. You can get a set of completely wireless bluetooth ear buds on Amazon these days for about $25 shipped via Prime. I've been using a couple of pair of them now for about a year and they're my favorite headsets ever. FWIW I had a pair very similar to the ones you posted a picture of previously.

Jaybird Tarah Pro.

They're way spendy and not to be found on Amazon. Got mine from Best Buy.

Here's a pretty good review that also compares them to their other models. Only downside is they don't support the higher quality AAC Bluetooth codec, or others, only SBC. Not an issue for me, can't hear that well anyway.

I don't want earbuds, especially $25 ones. Hate em and have tiny ear holes.

I also spend a lot of time on the phone and need a good mic with good noise cancellation.

You can also buy a Hi Point instead of a Sig.

I never wanted wireless, but like them when the ones at home are available. I've worn out more than three 3.5mm Jacks by now. I also hate, hate, hate ear buds because they don't stay in for me. I often use headphones for far longer than wireless batteries can cope with, and finally I don't want to spend a lot of money. What are my options?

I get you don't like ear buds but likening what I suggested as Hi Point to Sig isn't a realistic comparison IMHO. More like Glock (inexpensive, utilitarian and not for everyone but appeals to the masses & gets the job done plus offers basics others can't in the form of.. it just works w/o much thought or maintenance) on sale versus a Sig or HK. It's not like they're complete junk which is the category I throw a Hi Point in. Maybe you just have a higher opinion of Hi Point than I do?

By the way, the ones I suggested also have ear "clips" that you can attach which makes them stay put better (for me) than the style inner-ear clip you listed. This from someone who always went with over-the-ear clips because I tend to use mine when I'm active and need them to stay place. These el cheapo's have served me quite well though and I don't even use the over-the-ear clips that come with them and if I position them properly they stay pretty well.

For me, the style you listed was a PITA because of the wire that connects them. If I had it dangling in front it was obnoxious and bothered me and I'm sure I looked like a doofus. If I put it behind me head inevitably it would get "caught" on my neck and start to pull them from my ears. I would adjust the strap to various lengths but it just never could quite get right.

I think they all have their inherent flaw but after owning dozens of bluetooth headphones I like these latest ones the best. My favorite is they're almost disposable at the price so I don't have to worry about them since I can buy several pair for what the more expensive options cost. The sound isn't incredible but I like the flexibility of being able to wear one or both depending on the situation. I also like the rechargeable storage base that allows me to throw a charge on them a couple of times when traveling and I don't have access to a charger.

Jer

For reference, since I'm finally at a PC, here is a link to something similar to what I'm talking about: Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Headphones-Losei-Wireless-Earphones/dp/B071JXMMK6/ref=sr_1_70?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1549040550&sr=1-70&keywords=true+wireless+bluetooth+earbuds)

While these aren't exactly what I have they're pretty close and I'm pretty sure all of these cheap Chinese made headphones are the same. The reviews aren't incredible and I experienced almost none of the issues those reviews speak about. I have three different pair (I use two and my wife uses the 3rd) and have had great luck. Again, I bought them with low expectations and treat them like throw-away for that price. I think I paid closer to $20 shipped at the time as well.

For what it's worth, I compared these to the popular Jabra ones side-by-side and was very surprised that at 5x the price the Jabra True Wireless ear buds couldn't produce better sound. Those went back and I've been rocking the el cheapos every since. I get you don't do earbuds but for anyone else in the market these are fantastic for the price. Not world beaters for sound by any stretch of the imagination but if you're a fan of a Glock that you can beat on and not lose sleep and have it just keep working to an acceptable performance level these seem to be that for me.

Disclosure: I'm in no way affiliated with the seller I linked to nor am I getting any sort of commission for this post. Just my honest opinion and my personal experience. YMMV

Stand in a noisy DC and have a conversation with someone and tell me how great they are.

My first day with these, wearing them all day and I think they're awesome. I ended up using the smallest gel insert and they're super comfortable and block background noise very well.

They do stay in place (head banger tested), and swivel if needed so that the cord can be worn down, or up over the ear. I had zero issues with the (braided) cord on my neck when properly (snug) adjusted.

They have the coolest EQ app I've ever seen, multiple presets, crowd sourced EQ's and playlists. The other cool thing is when I pull them out and stick them together (magnetic) they pause whatever I was playing on my mobile device (music, movies, what have you.). They start playing again when I pull them apart to insert. Of course they have a play/pause button on the control. Magnetic charger base, and came with a neat snap open carry pouch.

So far, extremely pleased with them.

FWIW, I have a very, very low opinion of Hi Point. The one I shot once was a jamomatic.

ETA: the charge base.

Ear buds: I really like the Sony WI-SP500 (https://www.sony.com/electronics/in-ear-headphones/wi-sp500)s. They have a cord between them so if one falls out, you don't immediately lose 'em.

Though they're an open-air design - I like hearing what's going on around me.

Watch for sales - I got mine for ~$40.

Try putting it to them another way. Tell them that for $x per month you will make sure they are snow free. They can then plan and justify for the expense in advance, and won't feel like you are taking advantage of the situation. Soon they will come to rely on your services, without thinking about it.

Nice, it seems like retro is in. A question, were any of the Vietnam era M16s issued in OD green or were they all black at that time? Have any rifles with olive drab green or brown or other camo furniture been issued by the US military outside of snipers and special OPs?

Picked up this great older revolver from Rooster1966 on this very forum. 1975 vintage S&W 67 no dash .38Spl. It originally came with a set of Pachmayr Gripper and Altamont magna grips. I had this older set of period correct target grips on hand-they fit me better.

The no dash 66 and 67 briefly had all stainless sights but after a short while following complaints from law enforcement on the difficulty seeing them Smith changed to the red ramp front and black rear prior to other engineering changes. This gun appears to be one that sat around a bit but not shot much. Timing/lockup is spot on. It's a great shooter and will hang around for a long time. Couldn't be happier with the gun or the deal from Rooster. I think I need to get a floral carved Tom Threepersons holster from El Paso Saddlery to top it off lol.

Especially with pets.
Bed real eastate is dedetermined by number of legs. If it's you (2 legs) and a 100 lb Bouvier (4 legs), you get 1/3 of the bed and they get 2/3. If it's you and a 8lb cat, you STILL only get 1/3 of the bed and they get 2/3. I came to this conclusion after many years of observation and waking up almost ready to fall off the edge.

I think a lot of bear spray gets left at the airport when people don't realize they can't take it on the plane. That even goes for bush planes, so I'd say you're extra justified in your purchase.

Shot it yesterday. Not finicky at all with a couple different hollow points and ball ammo...about 150 rounds. The downside is I needed to adjust my grip because the left-side thumb safety likes to bite...hard. It's very small, flat and concealable. Probably won't knock the G43 out of the EDC spot any time soon, though.

$16.70 for this? I can get the same amount of food for half this price at Chipotle, and Chipotle makes better burritos than Dickey's makes BBQ. Who do they think they are?

It didn't used to suck. That is until I spent some time in Kansas City eating better BBQ for like 60% of the price.

Thanks for the comments. Handling a gun in the store doesn't tell enough about how it will perform when you actually shoot it. I'm interested in a small frame 1911 with a rounded butt because the square butt mini's bite more than I like. For some guys that just means better grip. I'd like something lighter and more discreet than my G27, and the double stack mag release is a bit of a reach for my short thumb.

That does look desperate. But it can't be as bad as Popeye's. Tried it a couple months ago and it had to be the worst fast food I've ever had. I was in Denver recently and noticed there's a Popeye's every few blocks along east Colfax. No wonder the minorities think they're perpetually victimized.

I actually like Popeye's quite a bit, especially for the price.

I forgot to mention that the sauces at Dickey's was warmer than the beef brisket!

There's a BBQ joint (or was) up near Loveland or Ft Collins that I really liked. Norby's maybe?

Try the G43. I was hesitant to buy one since i'm not a sub compact single stack fan. Then i tried one at the range running 50 rds through it. Finished the box of ammo, left the range. Went up stairs and purchased one using the Blue Label discount cert. .
Been my edc over a year now.

Popeyes can be hit or miss, The one here in Parker is usually good. If I eat there, it's always strips. Good with Blackened Ranch sauce.

Have you tried the Raising Cane's at Arapahoe Crossings? Best tasting chicken, IMO.

Go Chicken Go, it is Mom & Pop 5 store chain in the KC area. If you ever run across one, get the large gizzards with hot sauce, they are to die for if you are a gizzards fan. I will eat the whole box in one sitting.
Their chicken is OK, the grandkids & wife like it, but the gizzards are perfection.

Now in direct contrast with the dollar scoop Chinese place by my house. Here is about five times as much food for less twice as much.
$26.70. Each of these combos is PACKED with rice or lo mein with two sides, a soda, and egg roll or wantons for only $4.80 before tax.

Recommendations?

I went to few dollar (or 1.69) scoop places near 104th & Washington and they were horrible.
As long as they are as eatable level as Panda,I am willing to try.

Ho Mei on a about 86th and Washington on the East side (by Subway). I'm sure it isn't great, but it sure is a lot of food for cheap. I can't tell good Chinese from bad Chinese as well as I can Mexican and BBQ. I'd say close to Panda Express in taste. Certainly not worth the drive from Castle Rock.

No kidding. That looks great. Panda Express is the go-to for anything close to Chinese in this area. Several Asian restaurants in the area. They all suck...really bad. Panda is always good.
