I would love to toss a set of street tires on it and run it at Erie!

What hand stop is that? Looking for something similar to finish my current build.

Starting my next build. MBUS front sight, BCM MOD-4 charging handle, and a YMH low-gas block. Not pictured is the UTG free float rifle length quad rail I got yesterday from Bear Arms. Going on a carbine length DSA upper and Noveske Chainsaw lower. Just waiting on my LPK and stock parts from Palmetto State [Bang]. Good pricing but terrible shipping times.

Ran two miles on the treadmill in the shoes tonight.

How do they feel? Any pain in knees/back?

Irving
10-07-2012, 00:43
Honestly, the first time you put them on, they feel awkward and uncomfortable. 1) Your little toe is used to being pressed right up against the next toe, so when it is in its own compartment, it feels like someone is pulling on it. 2) If you are just standing around, it feels like you are standing around barefoot. Standing around barefoot on a hard surface hurts my feet. So just standing in them at the shoe store, you will lose confidence in trying to run in them on a hard surface. After walking around in them for a few minutes, all that discomfort goes away.

Now, with that initial, and honest, first impression out of the way, they performed exactly the way I expected them to perform. Running barefoot on the treadmill I can get exactly .50 miles before my feet start feeling raw and I know monster blisters are coming. With these, I was able to run the 2 miles with zero discomfort to my feet.

I didn't feel any discomfort to my back or knees, but I don't usually running anyway. Since this was my first run of any reasonable distance not heel striking, I am already very sore in my calves. I'll update more in the running thread as I run in them some more.

I don't think it caused any discomfort to anything other than my calves and any other muscles I don't normally use when running. After a few months of not running, and just returning from an 8 day vacation of just drinking and eating rich, fattening foods, I thought I was going to die tonight, just not from the shoes. :D

The first time I used mine, I ignored to warning to break them in slow, and decided instead to run 3 miles. I could barely walk the next day my calves were so sore. But after you get those muscles working again, the shoes are very comfortable.

The only time I feel discomfort is if I'm doing suicides or ladder sprints. Stopping too fast from a full sprint can cause the area in between your toes to push against the material of the shoe (if that makes sense).

I have the cheaper ($40) FILA version and I love them. The sole is built like a pair of Nike Frees with the little foam cubes that are extremely lightweight and flexible. They are a great transition shoe because they have less sole and support than a normal running shoe, but more than the "barefoot" shoes. Just like Sharpienads said though: don't try doing suicides or playing basketball in them... You could seriously injure your feet.

I wear a 14w or 15. I haven't found a company that makes them in my size yet. Every time I see a deal posted they go to size 12.5 and that's it.

Into thin air is a good read but you have to read Boukreev's book after. He saved four people and went back up the mountain while Krakauer stayed in the tent but Krakauer makes him out to be slacker.

Jensen, Bear, and 5280 had them in every time I've stopped by. You'll save yourself a few bucks by goin' to Jensen or Bear arms. Sportsmans had one in the last time I looked, so they'd be worth a call.

I gave this one to my wife to cut spending deficits in actually building her one from scratch, but she wanted all black so I stripped the handguard and painted to black. The furniture is her choices and all new as is the VORTEX SPARC (which by the way RAY if your listening, the base and the small spacer that comes with the SPARC is absolute co-witness on top of the VLTOR CASV handguard)

NFC tags. If you have an NFC device (sorry iPhone users) you can program these to do just about whatever you want automatically. I have a few under light plate switches so you don't see them and I pass my phone near them to change a pre-set list of settings. I have one inside the garage door that when I get home will enable WiFi, disable Bluetooth, Disable GPS and do a few other things. Then, when I leave I wave it over the same one and it reverses all those settings so I don't have to. I have one in the bathroom that will enable bluetooth and launch my music player so it will pair with the audio system we have in the bathroom w/o pressing anything. I have one next to my bed that silences the ring tone and notification tones, disables vibrate, launches the alarm clock and sets it for 8hrs from now and puts it in clock mode. I have one in the living room so if you come over to visit and want to get on our WiFi network you can wave your phone next to it and your phone will be on the network... no need to find/enter passwords. I have an NFC keychain with my personal contact info on it so if I meet someone and we exchange contact information they only need to wave their phone next to it and it's all there for them to save to their contacts.

In addition you can use NFC to pay for stuff at places like McDonald's and gas stations with tons of businesses jumping onboard daily but you can also share stuff with your friends by placing phones back to back and then tapping the screen. It's a pretty useful feature actually.

Yeah, they're super cheap and you can do all sorts of things. Put them in your car to launch Google Maps and activate bluetooth or whatever. You're limited by only your mind (so I'm pretty limited [Tooth]) The future is bright for NFC and Apple really missed the boat by not including it on the iPhone 5. It would have helped to move the technology forward too. Oh well.

The tags themselves have memory in them and you program the tag to do whatever sequence you want it to do. Then you install the NFC app on phones that are NFC capable (most new Android phones are now) and make sure it's enabled. Then you get your swipe on!

Pretty sure you'd leave the taint for any half assed food.

Wasn't wanting to put a lot into a belt set up but this was for under $100 (not including the pouches) turned out much nicer than I though.

I still need to had a pouch to haul some little things but so far very comfortable.

Tactical Tailor fight lite or something like that. The 308 pouches were like $14 each, light, stack-able, and holds MAGPUL LR20 mags easily.

The pistol mags are called magna pouches, Tactical Tailor as well, about $32 for a double pouch. Nice too, there are little magnets in the magna pouches to help hold the pistol mags in place if you have to the top straps off. (not the rifle mags) Which is good because my extended XD mags wont fit with the top strap.

Magnets wouldn't help hold any of my magazines. Unless they stick to aluminum, plastic, brass or copper.

Good looking belt setup. You should sell it and start over in OD green so it all matches that bad ass holster.

No, let me clarify, the pistol mag pouches have little magnets sewn in. Not the rifle mags. (edited my post above to reflect updated info)[Coffee]

The belt is actually "sewer green" so there is some matching there. Wife says it is okay to break up the main solid color with a highlighting color. She is the color coordinator..............

I was thinking of a drop leg mag pouch for the left side but 1.) cant find a drop leg mag holder for 308 mags, 2.) thinking about it, 6 mags on my left side of 308 I will be walking tilted to the left................................ [Tooth]

Oh well..................... like I will really wear this thing that much.

The belt is a EMDOM CM belt (http://www.skdtac.com/Emdom-MM-CM-Belt-p/e2m.105.htm) with an ATS "War Belt" (http://www.skdtac.com/ATS-War-Belt-p/ats.510.htm) pad.

Thinking of adding suspenders as well................haven't gotten that far. Took me 4 months of gathering pouches and shite to put it all together. I also have a 5.56 Tactical Tailor triple mag pouch I can switch out to as well.
