Years ago we discovered poke in Hawaii where you can buy many kinds in the grocery delis everywhere. It's the cheapest meal you can buy out. It's sushimi or raw fish usually with marinade, rice and veggies. I recently had some excellent poke for lunch at Sushi Leo in Longmont. Highly recommend it.

Sometimes we make poke at home. Here's an Ahi tuna poke with endamame, tomatoes, sushi rice, sesame, homegrown mint and microgreens. Delicious, cheap and easy.

Lots of people loves dim sum, but the food on cart walking around reminds me of 80s train style of delivery.

There is also Chinese-Korean (Koreanized Chinese) food Chinese restaurant all over Aurora. One is near H mart near Parker road and one in Havana across Bozarth Chevy.

Stupid Masterbuilt Electric Smoker control board failed during my last smoking...

Oh well, it wasn't that accurate, and didn't hold temp quite as tight as I know can be done...

PID control here we come!

ETA: No, the smoker won't be getting to 800?C, but for $15, these 800?C K-type thermocouples work really well, and are accurate throughout the range (that I have seen)...

Total cost??? $75... New board from Masterbuilt? Probably about the same. But this won't fail again...

Interesting. I've got a MES30, an extra body (no door, tray or shelves) and an extra controller. I haven't used it in a while since my pellet pooper is meeting all of my smoking needs. I should probably sell it all. Maybe I'll have motivation this spring once it's nice out to get some pictures & get it listed. I liked that smoker for sure though. Made some real good meat on it.

I started with a 30. Added the cold smoke box (a must for any of the MES line). Did well with it but then I started doing bigger chunks, and larger batches.

This last round of bacon was 10lbs, but my previous batch was 50lbs. I did turkeys for a church get together last fall, and did 4 11-12lb turkeys.

I've toyed with the ideal of a pellet smoker/grill, but the one I got to play with for a weekend (house sitting for a friend) has me spoiled, and I can't quite justify $1500 on a smoker. Not right now (too many irons in the fire...).

I did a lot of pork shoulders in mine and they all turned out amazing. I was irked every time that I wanted to smoke a brisket though that I had to hack off several inches and throw it away just to get it to fit. I opened for a GMG DB w/WiFi years ago and have never looked back. I kept the MES30 just because I thought I might use it occasionally and really liked it but with this post I realized it's been covered in the garage unused for years so I suppose I should clear up the space and get it to someone who will get some use out of it. Both the MES30/MES40 are super awesome smokers though especially for the price tag. I think with the proceeds from selling me MES30 and all of the gear I have with it I'll get the pizza attachment for my GMG to make some kick ass pizzas this summer!

Kind of hard to hit that ~800deg all-around sweet spot though for handmade pizzas on a cast iron with direct heat from a pellet smoker's pot. My guess is you don't get that crispy top/cheese/ingredients that you would get from a brick oven style that circulates the heat all the way around and not just direct heat on the bottom. I'm looking for that full brick oven result but at home for very little cost. At $20/pie you can pay for a $100 pizza attachment at home pretty quickly. I'm not saying it will be a drastically different result and I don't know we'll use it every night but I think it will be fun the nights we have friends over for "Make-your-own-pie" nights.

I wanted a surplus 1911 and ran into this one well cheaper than the CMP's offerings. It's an arsenal rework of course, and it's got plenty of finish wear, but damned if it's not a functional military 1911. Came with the origination trigger thankfully, but I hate fucking around with 1911 trigger parts so might be awhile before it gets dropped in.

When you outgrow that Miata you should find an RX-7.

Gen 3 RX7 (93 to 95) is an awesome car. Just that it is about 24-26 years old and outdated.
Use to drive that during 97 to 99. After warranty and extended warranty expired, I was little nervous back then.

I love Laguna Seca.

I went there every year (sometimes twice) from 1975 until 1998. I moved to CO in 1999 and have not had a chance to get back for the motorcycle races. I liked the old track best.

Myself and two friends rode the track one night on a dare, after drinking Jack Daniels. This was probably 1980, '81? I made it three laps and pulled into the camping area and my two friends continued on and were stopped by track security and ejected. We got them back in about an hour later. It was great.

That corkscrew is NO joke man. First time on that track I goosed the throttle slightly coming over the top and the wheel barely lifted but due to how sharply it falls off it didn't touch back down until near the bottom and I nearly ran wide off the track. Total n00b move. lol TV and photos don't do it justice though as the elevation change is absurd when you're on it. Same with some of the corner banks as you almost touch a knee going around upright if you're on the inside of the corner. Good times.

Besides the wire, plant some rosemary, or russian sage. They have one called ornamental rosemary, grows up 3-4' out to about 6. You can get a starter that's maybe a foot tall. Not only keeps the deer away, it's nice to pick a fresh sprig or two for what ever your cooking.

This also works as a deterrent.

That a Carrier whole house humidifier, i see?

Just a bypass humidifier. smaller than it looks in pic, just one of those that hangs off the side of the bonnet.

Infiniti 3T inverter (DC) condenser unit (variable condenser and fan)
Infiniti 80% furnace (variable gas, variable blower)
3.5T evap box
bypass humidifier (got a polarized filter unit too)
Infinity smart controller (guess I need to peddle my brand new ecobee4 I never installed)
Have to add a 100AMP sub panel, my 125A panel is full after the kitchen remodel. They wanted stupid crazy money for a 200A panel. Will give me room to pull another line into my garage, and probably another into the basement.

With the promos and rebates, cashback ,cash discount, mil discount, cost less then the mid grade models and came in under my budget estimate.

About $400 in parts and three consecutive hours of swearing punctuated by brief periods of wildly swinging a sledge hammer while eating a lung full of rust and asbestos. Otherwise known as replacing all four rotors and disc brake pads on my wife's minivan.

Yep. New pad against old one. They may not have been squealing before this morning, because I am betting the squealers got worn down and then snapped off by heat and metal fatigue while carving a track in the rotors.

Rear brakes were much, much worse than the front ones, which surprised me because I would have thought the proportioning would be heavier towards the front discs. That was the worst of all the pads; driver's rear inner. But I don't think it was from a stuck caliper. It ratcheted back into position relatively smoothly, and the sliders were in good shape. Last time I redid the rears, I replaced the calipers and the rear brake lines, so the boots were still intact and had plenty of grease when I pulled them. What I do suspect with regard to the wear is that the van has been driven more than a mile or two with the parking brake engaged.

But if she asked me why the toilets haven't been cleaned and I handed her the brush and said 'That's woman's work', I'd be beaten with it.
It's these sort of inherent logical conundrums that add to the spice of our marriage.

While the brake change gave me the satisfaction of a job well done, this guy just showed up and is something I wanted to spend my money on:
https://www.johnnyego.com/wood/tools/handtools/handtools01a.JPG

It's also bonus season at work, and this year I dumped a chunk of it into hand tools instead of firearms. The first thing to show up are some fancy stones for my plane irons. After 43 years on this earth and a Rubbermade bin full of assorted sharpening tools, machines, and gimmicks,I finally vow to learn how to successfully hand sharpen a thing. Previous efforts at hand sharpening just left me with either a duller edge than I started with, or one with seventeen different bevels that also didn't cut. But this time, it will be different.

OEM

I guess I have to figure out how to install one upside down.

Bought a new replacement OEM grille and the foggy headlights are bugging me. One has a spider crack so not worth trying to polish (again).

I bought my first truck from my older brother for $200, with the agreement that he would help me build it over the next 2 years before I could drive (bought it at 14).

1974 GMC 3/4ton 4x4.
Swapped the motor, body work, new interior stuff, painted it (Ford Tractor Blue of all colors), lifted it, built exhaust for it, etc...

Drove that the whole way through highschool, still had it and drove it on occasion till about 3 years ago. About a year into driving it, swapped the carb for factory tuned port injection off of a corvette.

Good times.

Latest purchase for me... This sumbitch runs off with lugnuts RIGHT NOW!!!! Except for 1.5" lug nuts on our gin pole truck that hasn't had the wheels removed in a few decades... Still takes them off, but has to think about it for a few seconds...

Holley hadn't gotten into the stand alone EFI stuff when I was 14.

Plus, I bought a 86' vette that didn't run for $600, parted it out keeping the TPI setup and the complete harness to re-wire into a stand-alone (PITA btw, but doable). Sold $1200 worth of stuff off the car... Made TPI cheap for my pickup.

Nowadays though, I completely agree. The Holley Dominator and Terminator setups, with LS motors, is too easy and cheap to not use.

Know what i would have out of all of them, today? A pile of rust, from moving here and there. They were $50 - 150 tops vehicles, back then. Who would have "thought" a 64 SS or 48 Indian Chief ( in 74-75) would bring the money they are today? .

On a side note he found out Taurus has owned Heritage for over 15 years. They are still being made in in the same factory in Miami.

Not sure but I think Lock'er Down on some models have an open bottom using the floor of the console rather than a 6 sided vault box....if that makes sense? They also offer an electronic lock but they're damn proud of it as well as their rear floor bin vaults for Ram.

Oh and if you have the CD player in the console, they both offer versions that fit around it.

Hahaha yeah, the computer was built only at the end of January. The 980 is a carryover from the old machine.

Wife said the same thing. Then something about 'So is Chris Hemsworth also in that box?' Only one of us is disappointed. This thing is truly a beast. Resin infused maple head with a leather face, the theory being it is kinder to western-style chisel handles than a conventional metal hammer head when you are whacking the crap out of them. The wooden mallet unfortunately also tends to wear faster. In theory, being resin-infused is supposed to give me the best of both worlds; a little bit of give but a rock hard surface that will take the abuse. I know I carved out a foot and a half of half-inch mortise in some hard maple yesterday, and I had to resharpen the chisel three times, but there was nary a mark on the mallet head.

Most woodworkers pride themselves on making their own hammer, and while I respect that choice, I am not that good with a rasp and don't have a vacuum infusion chamber. Plus, I like supporting small businesses that produce high quality goods when I can.

What year is it? 1983ish? I had the sister car to the Camaro, a 1982 Trans Am that I drove off the lot brand new....got it replaced by GM in 1984 because there were sooo many problems with the 82. The 84 was a different car although it looked identical. Shifting was a dream and virtually every problem from 82 was fixed.

Those look like the stock wheels, within 6 months of new I think I had lost every wheel cover. If you went over railroad tracks over 15 mph or so you just knew to stop and go back and get the one or two that flew off.

I have to admit I miss the 84.

It’s an 83. The odometer says 84k miles. The interior is piled up inside from being stripped but none of the fabric looks like a ton of wear. With the expection of 2 panels the body is pretty straight. I have the big choice to make. The 6 year old wants to keep it to make it his car. The old lady says get the parts off it I need and it’s gone

CS1983
04-22-2019, 08:05
It'll be 10 years before he can really drive it. I doubt a 6 year old would be very helpful in restoration. Something better will come along and which piques his interest once he is say... 14. That would be the better time to do a restoral/first car.

fitterjohn
04-22-2019, 08:40
Yea that’s the thought I had originally. I’m going to make him help me pull parts and see how long it takes him to loose interest. She said it’s not going to be like buying rifles where I can keep bringing things home and saying well it was a good deal and this one isn’t for me it’s for Harley when he is older. And she also said it isn’t going to be a car for her like the rifles I bought because they would be good for her, and to stop buying her rifles she doesn’t want them lol

You?re going to put your kid driving a Camaro in the snow? Probably the only worse vehicle in the snow is a Mustang.

Don?t get me wrong, father/son projects are awesome and rear wheel drive V-8 vehicles rock. I just wouldn?t feel comfortable having a kid that?s new to driving trying to get around in a Camaro on a snowy day.

fitterjohn
04-22-2019, 10:17
I started driving my 84 Camaro with a 350. That being said I think those 350s made an incredible 135 hp and I had to drive the Jeep when it snowed. That being said My kids would probably get a v6

ray1970
04-22-2019, 10:50
Lol. Be careful about the V-6 if it?s a newer one. I think those things make over 300HP.

Lol no I know a guy who has the correct one for an 84 Camaro. And they couldn’t get out of their own way. It’s like a friend I had in high school who’s parents couldn’t believe mine let me buy a Camaro with a v8, but they had bought their son a new Subaru wrx, cuse how could that go wrong, it’s just a 4 cylinder Subaru

My wife's boss got one of the new Tesla Model 3's and is teaching his 15 year old daughter to drive on it. Whenever she "has" to drive her mom's Volvo SUV she hates it. For us it's an adjustment to drive EVs after a lifetime of driving ICE cars so for me it's interesting to hear the differences from someone coming from the other way. Our cars have got a lot of attention but none more than with kids. They're constantly asking to take pictures of them or selfies with them and even ask if we can take pics of them in front of them. Kids love these cars which is cool to see.

I have a stick welder and mig welder and I wanted to learn to do tig stuff. So I finally broke down and bought the new multi-process welder I've been wanting. Now I can sell the others and free up some space. I've read very good things about them but we'll see. I'm pretty impressed with the initial look and feel of it. Need to wire up a 50A outlet in the shop so I can have some fun with this.

142K. The nice thing about most AZ vehicles is minimal if any rust or body rot. The bad thing is minimal or zero body rot/rust.
I looked at 4x4's that literally looked showroom, body wise. Till you saw they had 200 - 350K on them, lifted with 33's, yet no one seemed to know who did the work.
The other down side is, like CO it's rare to find an under 100K odo unit.

Anyway, this 88 was in the ball park price range i wanted to stay in. 4.0 inline 6 cyl, plus it's still a stock suspension, and drive train, unlifted unit. Eventually i'll do a 2 maybe 3" lift kit. After 1/2 doz other projects ahead of it.

I'd love another Cherokee, and I pretty much know them inside and out if you have any questions.
