I love the E46, I wanted one for a long time, but they're at the age now where I worry about maintenance costs. Having spent 3 years there I drove a lot of BMW's. I also learned that the E46 is just about the end of the line for BMW's that you can work on at home. After learning that you can't even change your own battery on anything newer and after doing my own work on my Hoopty it came down to this. Currently has the SMG but getting converted later this year. I have got used to the SMG in daily use and for the track they are great. Driving around town with one is another story. I did get to have fun over there though. 81658

The Germans had no idea. More than a few found out the old G8 is good for 280Kph (174Mph). German cars have a limiter that limits them to 250Kph. Some unlock them but it is very expensive because when they go fo inspection (TUV) it is checked. We don't have that issue. [Flower] 81659 And my Hoopty over there. That's a fancy soldering kit.

I have a bunch of taps and a few dies of my grandfather's, but they are all standard, and most of them are 5/8. I bet I have at least 10-15 5/8 taps. Very frustrating when I was looking for metric.

Had it with moth. Bought 2000-Volt 1/2 acre Bug Zapper Insect Killer

Having battled moths for years out in Black Forest, let me give advice on bug zappers for moths. The model you bought is NOT what you want. Note the two electrode grids, one inside the other. The moths just land on the outer grid and do not get zapped, they're too big to bridge the gap and get zapped (with a few, very few, exceptions).

You want a zapper that uses alternating rods. Plus, as long as you don't have kids around, you want to remove the outer protective plastic cover that also keeps moths out, leaving bare rods that the moths can bonzai into and fry. I'm sure removing the protective cover is a crime punishable by 10 years in jail in some states, but it's the only way to allow moths easy access to the electrodes of death.

Something like this model:

That's hilarious you'd post that picture. I just got one today. Flowtron BK-40...1 acre size. Just fired it up about an hour ago. Bugs are out on the back patio riding the lightning as I type this.

I absolutely love the sound, too! Great entertainment.

ETA: I bought some cheap piece of crap by Stinger at the local hardware store. O2 is spot on with regards to the grid. Little bastards land on it and if they don't land on the right one they just fly away. It was on all night...no bug body count in the morning. I took it back and got the Flowtron from Amazon because no one in town had any left. The Flowtron is Made in the USA and it works. There was a little lightning storm going on within seconds of firing that thing up and a visible body count on the patio after 5 minutes. It works great!

ETA again: What it looked like this morning. I got distracted doing something else and forgot to move the step stool. As you can see the grid on this larger model doesn't have the vertical plastic strips. The opening is large enough for moths to get through as you can see:

With heavy moth infestation this year be careful with bug zappers. They can fill up/clog pretty quickly and create a fire hazard.

I had to run out on the deck one evening and jerk one down and throw it out into the yard before it caught deck roof on fire.

When I get up in morning before turn on can lights in great room I fire up shop vac with long extension and vac moths from where they hid in fixtures and assorted other nooks/crannies.

Worst infestation in 3 or 4 years for us. Average daily eradication is in the hundreds.

Jer
05-30-2020, 13:59
It's a good thing you didn't find a curved TV because those things are beyond gimmicky. If you wanted a 70-in flat screen I've actually got a really nice 4K HDTV with HDR, built-in Comcast and smart TV apps brand new in the box for like $100 more... Or about $54 difference after tax. It's in the marketplace. And if you're wondering, yes the difference between a 70-in screen and a 65-in screen is substantial. When we first upgraded the one in our master bedroom from a 65-in to a 70-in we thought it was a mistake until we got used to it. Now it's pretty badass and I don't know if I would go back to something smaller.

There have been some great deals on TVs lately. We have a 55" curved and have loved it as the perfect size for our rooms so I looked another. Couldn't find one at Sam's but got a flat 55" QLED on sale for what you paid. It's in our great room at the farm house which is 65" long with 23' ceiling. Big windows and lots of light where the curved showed an advantage, but the QLED has a brighter screen so we really don't miss the curved.

I bought this one in 2018 and paid a premium @$3,100. 12 months later it was about half price. Now they are unobtanium unless you want an open box or refurb.

I must say, the TV is amazing and the single piece of fiber to the monitor from the external tuner box is beyond cool. The remote, thought I don't use it much, is pure sex. It feels like it was carved from a piece of billet.

I speculate that Stimulus/relief $ went to upgrade some electronics. I've never seen many retailers are out of decent TV.

It's not just TV's. Anything remotely entertainment or "summer" related is often getting to be a PITA to get right now. Kid pools, patio furniture, etc. Probably too much pent up demand hitting stores all the same time right now + stimulus money.

A week or so ago I sold a backyard, metal free-standing firepit. Put it on CL for $60. It was sold within 5 mins to the first guy that contacted me. I had offers of $100 for it from other people. The guy I sold it to was nice...said he and his wife had been looking for one for weeks and couldn't find one. He even offered to give me an extra $20 for honoring my listed price but I didn't take it. I had no idea.

Stores have been left without heavy commerce for ~ 3 months, and then the floodgates opened. Most stores only have a few days demand worth of merchandise on hand, our supply chain is built mostly around "on demand", there's little on-site warehousing anymore. So, the chain doesn't work to well even when operating normally when you condense a month or two worth of purchases into a week or two and flood in "stimulus" hush money too.

I need to get more stuff up on FB or CL (FB preferred). Need to sell some stereo gear.

I actually have better results on FB marketplace than anything else. Sold my truck on FB, some tires, got rid of an old window A/C...

I was worried about the truck for a bit after I lost the first interested guy, second guy (Nextdoor) backed out of a done deal, third guy finally came through and while it was sad to see it go, I got more than I expected.

Thats the same style that I remember from my childhood (yours is newer though) when I'd go camping with my grandparents in Arizona. I can't even begin to explain how nostalgic it makes me to see it.

I hope you make as many wonderful memories as I have, with it on your family outings.

We did a family vacation in in the 1970s from San Antonio, TX to Southern CO with one of those my dad borrowed. Towing it with the family sedan wasn't enjoyable, but not sleeping on the ground was great.

Was my first time behind the steering wheel and I didn't get my drivers license until the early '80s. Dad had trouble understanding the mechanics of backing the trailer into a camping spot and he let me give it a go. I greased that sucker in there no problem.

Perhaps you folks remember that just last month I picked up a custom S&W 64. Well shortly thereafter I was offered a 65 built by the same gunsmith. It is a higher grade build than the 64 was so I couldn't say no. Sold the 64 and grabbed the 65. Oh momma. The smith, Hellfire Custom Guns in Pennsylvania-find him on fb if you'd like, does very nice work. So this 65-3 from probably 1982 was a former LE gun. He worked over the action, semi-bobbed the hammer, brushed the finish, recrowned and slab sided the barrel and installed a fiber front sight. I put my favorite grips for a round butt Smith on it, the old school Pachmayr Compact.

I'll always be a revolver guy at heart. Here are some pics along with the first target: fired 6 rounds of Remington .38 130gr fmj at 10 yards. The first shot was high right, i adjusted my sight picture for the second and was still to the right but centered, then the next 4 were exactly where I was aiming. After that it just fun fun fun for a 100 rounds running different drills at various distances from 3-15 yards and in between.

I won a Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society drawing for a Swarovski EL Range 10x42 binoculars or another Swarovski optic of equal value. I needed a new spotting scope more than binoculars so I ordered the STX 85mm spotting scope with the padded covers, the compact carbon tripod and the compact tripod head. I gladly paid the difference for this awesome setup. The package arrived just in time to watch a Common Raven nest in a sub-alpine fir only 40 yards from our back patio. A large spruce had fallen the day before, giving us a clear view of the nest. We count four young in the nest.

My older spotting scopes are from the mid sixties and the mid eighties. This will up my game at the range, for pronghorn hunting and for general wildlife watching.

Yeah, thanks. I don't think I would ever have afforded myself Swarovski optics but with the gift of ~$3400, I could splurge a little more on a new scope/tripod package. The EL Range bins are excellent but the 24' close focus distance doesn't work for me. I'm happy with the Vortex Razors with a 5' close focus. They were a splurge too.

I've supported the RMBS for several years. They're doing good work on behalf of bighorn sheep.

How's its quickness of opening? I have a small biometric safe that if it's on battery power only it gets cranky. Even on AC power, it sometimes wants to reject my entry attempts. So I basically haven't used it for what I intended, since seconds might count.

If the vaultek is responsive to opening, I'll grab one.

ETA: hrm... maybe not? Although, I don't expect my kids to figure this hack out, it's a concern for vehicle use and leaving in the car with the cable lock.

I just received it yesterday so I have not had a chance to use it much. The code can be 4-8 numbers, if you use four it is very fast to unlock. The buttons do not depress, you just put your finger over the number, so entry is quick. You cannot use two numbers at once. I originally was getting one for my son, he needs secure storage for his first pistol but really doesn't have room for anything bigger than this. He also goes camping a lot so he wanted something portable. I got one for myself instead of another mounted box in a vehicle. I figure it can serve double duty and secure valuables while traveling.

Mine is a brand new shipment so I assume it has the new firmware.

A bad guy can just take it home and have his way with it. I can't imagine that brute force would be unable to open it.

If using the cable lock they’d have to bust the frame, the cable, or whatever the cable lock is hitched to to get it home. I see it more as preventing opportunistic smash and grab.

Hahahaha.... needed something to pull the push mower around town.
Just over 28', and has room for the 4 seat RZR, along with a bedroom, kitchen, and shower. Towable with the 1/2 ton pickup. Even on the (basically big car tire) 22's. Might swap on my beefier wheels and tires to drag it loaded.

Nice where did you get this at? And send me details for rental prices.

We got it at Terry Frazer RV, just north of Davenport, IA. Closest one to us, since there has apparently been a run on toys lately.

It is a Wildwood FSX 260RTX (Platinum, basically meaning fiberglass siding instead of aluminum). Chose this one because the living area doubles as a garage for the side by side on the way to camp. Space allows for our 4 seat RZR.

Havent set the rental stuff in stone yet, but will let you know when we do. We have to use it first at least... haha.

I will probably keep it over at Wills if you want to check it out.

Those cable locks are a quick snip and the bad guy is on his way. They're more to make it less convenient to walk away, but someone wanting to steal it won't have much problem with it.

ETA: If they're similar to other cable locks like I've dealt with, I could cut through them with the wire cutter on the inside jaws of a pair of vice grips.

Yes, maybe. But the more small steps the better.

At any rate, mine arrived today and it will work nicely for exactly the reason I got it: keep my monkey kids a complex series of steps away from home defense pistol access. The 3 year old has revealed himself to be combination rock climber/budding engineer, so my previous method of "high = safe" is no longer true.

I wouldn't leave this thing in my vehicle overnight, though if I had to run into somewhere I couldn't take a pistol it would be better than nothing.

I've been looking for tires on Craigslist and mostly finding older stuff. Turns out that 16" wheels haven't been standard on trucks for many years, so the tires aren't as common. Buddy mentioned to me that going up a size might be helpful. I was at the junk yard pulling factory aluminum wheels so I could get rid of the heavy, crappy, steel wheels on my Trooper. I just happened to look down in a pile of wheels next to the ones I was pulling, and noticed a way better looking Isuzu wheel, and what's this? It was a 17" wheel. Didn't know that they ever made a 17" wheel. Turns out they put them on the Axioms. Took me two trips to two different yards around town, but I managed to snag five wheels between two vehicles. I'm scheduled to pick up some 285/70r17 tires (33's) tomorrow evening. Fortunately the bolt pattern is 6 on 5.5 which is shared by Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Nissan, and Chevy, so finding some cheap aluminum wheels wasn't going to be a huge problem.

Will do. I got all five for $900 on Craigslist, which feels like a good deal. The spare has never been on the ground, and the other four supposedly have only 500 miles.

Mine is a nice back / tan - drop point / tanto style

I have a Gerber Auto Covert Automatic Knife (3.8" S30V Black Serr) 30-000137 k that pretty much sucks..or should I say opening it shows that it has a weak spring or something binding. I have tried cleaning and re-oiling it without disassembling it.

When that knife is deployed it is rock solid, the blade is nice, and about as perfect for light edc or stuff it in the tackle box knife use.
I picked up the mini size; https://www.bladehq.com/item--Gerber-Mini-Covert-Automatic-Knife--8261

When I bought the full size folder I said - dang, no way that will be used outside of the house. But it just fit in my hand perfectly and the style is quite nice.

I wanted one of those so bad when they first came out.

Have put 90k on mine since I got it used at 40k. Love it.

https://i.imgur.com/0VR04kk.jpgVery nice! How are the laws regarding usage on public roads down there in OK? My interest in something similar has gone through the roof since moving to AZ, where they can be driven pretty much anywhere a passenger vehicle can.

Depends on where you live. Cities can regulate them in terms of being on the road. Where I live it's fine. The police chief drives one around town on weekends, so...

Some states like Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota allow them to be titled and you can register then like a motorcycle. Best thing to do is check with a dealer or the county clerks office website.

South Dakota you need a plate and a mirror and it's legal. That's what I was told anyway. They were cruising around everywhere.

Wow! Beautiful instrument. A big step up to make art from art.

Yeah, that's beautiful. My musical ability pretty much ends after I turn on the radio.

Don't you need another one for a Deliverance effect?

I disagree. Anyone can make music. The key is appreciating what you can?t do and doing what you can. Eventually, with passion and practice, the delta is reached and one progresses beyond that which they ever thought possible.

No. The Deliverance scene was with a banjo and guitar. The banjo has origins in Africa, and found its way to Appalachia via the slave trade. At times seen as a signal of wealth and sophistication, and others as one of poverty and backwardness, I truly believe it to be the most versatile instrument aside from the human voice. It was America?s instrument until the depression, when the cheaper guitar took center stage. At that time, a good guitar cost around (today?s) 678 dollars, while a comparable quality banjo was 3x that cost. If you?re interested in the history at all, Clifton Hicks has a ton of great research.

Lol I bought it and then showed my wife. As a harpist who has owned some exquisite instruments in the past she surprisingly supported the decision. As she said, ?the only things that seem to hold your attention are music and archery.? Guns too, I guess.
