$38 for 250 at Cabela's. Probably cheaper online with a special. Seems good enough to shoot.

I learned that folks are going to be offended by anything at anytime. I can just do what I do and let that be that.

TheBelly
12-23-2013, 04:12
All kinds of folks are just looking for something to offend them. I'm not going to try and stop someone from being offended. If they can't deal with someone else having a different viewpoint than them, THEY might be the one with a problem.

TheBelly
12-23-2013, 04:13
Actually, if another adult has a problem, I really don't care to help them solve it. There are certain exclusions (inclusions in this case).

TheBelly
12-23-2013, 04:17
1) you are someone that think won't try to be a turd about my help, after the fact. Example: when someone here asks for my help about something, I will help. Hell, I'll even make a video about it in most cases. The best part is that folks will either accept the help, or they won't, but I have NEVER had someone not say thanks for the help. No one has tried to trash a reputation for just trying to help.

i liken this to someone who sues another person for hurting them by pulling them out of a burning car. You goober, you would have died!

TheBelly
12-23-2013, 04:30
2) I will help if my actions will prevent death or serious harm. This is pretty self-explanatory.

this goes double for animals. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about eating animals. I think they are tasty as all get-out. I can't stand folks that would purposely hurt their domesticated pet. Also, if you're going to shoot an animal, then you better be a good enough shot to ethically harvest it by not gut-shooting it.

there was a guy in Texas that gut shot a deer because the shot was beyond his skill. I was there hunting with him, and I just cleaned up his mess. He hit the deer in the back. It paralyzed the back legs, and it was trying to crawl away. I gave it one right in the brain bucket, and it was DRT. The part about this that's hard for me to swallow is that the deer was exactly 185m away. The guy couldn't hold a group small enough to ethically harvest a deer from a stone's-throw away. Ugh!

it's those who preach Tolerance and Diversity want neither, if it goes against their beliefs. If it can make one submit to Their way of thinking, no matter what, so much the better.
They wave the 1st like a flag, until someone, who disagrees, exercises the same right. Then they are the first to burn the same flag of freedom.

True.... I'm trying to find the balance between quantity and quality. Lately, I've been leaning towards quality, which has absolutely zero to do with the PWT. I think it's almost against the rules of the PWT, actually.

ive had several occasions over the last few days to have a good run if I cared to. Instead, I just thought I'd highlight the fact that I CHOSE not to. It might be the first time I've just STFU without someone telling me to do so.

I've gotta say, ebay is weird. People act like they have to be the highest bidder for the longest amount of time in order to win. Selling a scope right now, first day, people bid up like crazy from $0.99 to $125.03. Then, about 1.5 days went by before another bidder noticed and took it up to $150. It's been sitting there since then. Auction ends on Christmas Day (yea, didn't plan that one at all).

Worst case scenario, I list it after Christmas when everyone has Christmas money to blow.

It's all one bank account that my toy money comes out of. I get a limited amount every paycheck. So buy rifle when I get the money and wait several more months to be able to shoot it, or buy bullets and brass while still researching and then when I get rifle I can take it out.

But I see your point. Probably best to get my hands on the rifle first, I can always dryfire the crap out of it while waiting to take it shooting. I also do have a few (like 3-4) range pickup .308 brass I can use if needed.

Head to range. Shoot 3 rounds. Adjust scope. Go home. Reload 3 rounds. Head to range. Shoot 3 rounds. Adjust scope again. Go home. Reload 3 rounds. Hmm, I guess thats doable.

a good recommendation is either this because of the sweet reticle (and they are good scopes):

The first thing I did when soldiers would come to my office and say they're having money problems is I tell them to bring me a copy of their bank ledger. All of them. They get all offended, and I tell them I can fix their money problems once and for all, and they bring them in.

then I tell them where they are being wasteful. They get upset and say that they can't live without their giant car payments, fancy stereos, huge rims, enormous cell phone bills, etc., etc.

they usually come around when I tell them that I don't support them getting a loan until they trim some of the fat off their own living. It is very hard to be my subordinate. I will absolutely crush your soul......

Oh, someone brought this up earlier, so I didn't want anyone to feel left out of the loop:

To be, or not to be, that is the question—
Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer
The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die, to sleep—
No more; and by a sleep, to say we end
The Heart-ache, and the thousand Natural shocks
That Flesh is heir to? 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep,
To sleep, perchance to Dream; Aye, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes Calamity of so long life:
For who would bear the Whips and Scorns of time,
The Oppressor's wrong, the proud man's Contumely,
The pangs of despised Love, the Law’s delay,
The insolence of Office, and the Spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his Quietus make
With a bare Bodkin? Who would Fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered Country, from whose bourn
No Traveler returns, Puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have,
Than fly to others that we know not of.
Thus Conscience does make Cowards of us all,
And thus the Native hue of Resolution
Is sicklied o'er, with the pale cast of Thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment,
With this regard their Currents turn awry,
And lose the name of Action. Soft you now,
The fair Ophelia? Nymph, in thy Orisons
Be all my sins remembered.

Yes.

what distance do you want to shoot?

a good recommendation is either this because of the sweet reticle (and they are good scopes):

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/941128/bushnell-elite-tactical-lrs-rifle-scope-30mm-tube-3-12x-44mm-1-10-mil-adjustments-first-focal-g2dmr-reticle-maTte

or this for something similar:

http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vortex-viper-pst-2-5-10x32-ffp-riflescope-with-ebr-1-mrad-reticle/reticle

or if you're looking for something that's pretty bomb proof:

http://www.leupold.com/tactical/scopes/mark-4-lrt-riflescopes/mark-4-lrt-3-5-10x40mm-30mm-m3/

Ive shot an ipsc steel target out to 1k with the last one and a 16" barrel. I even hit it once or twice!

50 to 800 yards is probably where I want to be. I know it's a wide range.. the lower end of that for deer hunting etc. and the higher end for some gong ringing.

I've grown to love Leupold since I can always rely on them. That is probably my max price range.

Not sure about vortex since they are phillipino (I think) (maybe jim can provide insight on phiilipino human labor quality...)

But that bushnell has a nice mag range, mil turrets, and I'm digging that reticle too! I didn't realize they made those DMR reticles and had a 30 mm tube.

Thanks for those recommendations. I should ask, have you personally looked through/shot either of the first two?

Oh you'd probably be impressed with my budget! We have no debt (only mortgage but that doesn't really count lol), no car payments, pay split payments on our mortgage to get that 13th payment each year (which we also put extra towards principle), hardly ever go out to eat, don't eat fast food or junk food or soda, we allot a small amount each paycheck for "personal" money which is where my rifle/reloading/etc funds come from. We save more than our monthly mortgage each paycheck. So BRING IT ON! [LOL]

I own and use the 6-24x50 version of the bushnell on my LMT MWS in .260. It's a pretty sweet little scope. My next purchase is going to be the 3-12 version to switch between my LaRue and my .223 'SPR' AR.

ive used and shot the vortex at a precision shooting class. Is a good little scope, and it should serve you very well.

I have the last one on my LaRue 16" PredatAR .308. It's tough as nails, but it's only "drawback" (if you can call it that) is that it's second focal plane. It has killed numerous critters.

Future tip: pull the combined cases, then pour media back in tumbler and turn tumbler back on. While its on, push the stuck case side wall on the top lip of the tumbler bowl, with case pointing down towards the media. It sometimes is able to quickly vibrate that media and stuck case out.

Call either USAA or Costco and pay $50 (might have gone up) to see a price break down of all parts, accessories, packages, models, etc. After that, go to all dealers that carry the model you want with a list of how you want it configured and say this is the price I'll pay right now and here's an extra $500 (or more if you want to be generous lol) for your time, being the last 5min.

Bought my Xterra that way, paid $500 over cost. In and out in 10min, picked it up 3mo later.

I've worked similar deals in the past, both through fleet mgr and not, and found an auto broker to be just as cost effective and much easier.

I got the same deal letting an auto broker hunt for what I wanted. They also shopped my VG condition low mileage trade and got top dollar from someone besides the selling dealer. I also had them get the 5th wheel hitch installed and a Line-X sprayed in for far less than what I could even get a "Stock Show special" for. Got a super rate at a credit union too. Great experience all around. HM Brown FWIW.

Right on! They are showing only one left in stock. Wondering if that is a marketing ploy... Better order soon just in case dude. Send her out shopping?

I've been looking at mounting options at LaRue. LT104 vs LT158. Not sure if I need the extra ten MOA or not. I'll probably add a magpul ACS stock. How's your cheek weld on your 308(s) with current setup?

get the 158. To steal a phrase from Hoser: Can't hurt. Might help.

if I was at home, I'd show you a picture of what it looks like to have a 40mm objective on an AR in that mount. Wait a sec... Maybe I can... Lemme go find one.

does that work?

TheBelly
12-25-2013, 16:49
Yep, excellent..... That's a Leupold MK4 LR/T 3.5-10x40 in an LT-158 (SPR-S) mount.

pay attention to the amount of space between the objective bell and the rails. The cheek weld is pretty comfortable. I've had no issues with this optic height. The optic centerline is roughly 3" above the bore line. That's an important bit of information if you use a ballistic solver to figure out what the gun is going to do.

FWIW, I also use this mount for a Bushnell 4-24x50 scope, and there's sill enough room for a scope cover on that optic. Lets see if I can wrangle up a picture......

BuffCyclist

Yup, pic is there Belly.

And I can't believe it. The scope that I couldn't sell locally for even as low as 60% retail price is now going to be sold on ebay more than retail (auction ends in 1hr). And I figured no one would bid on it because its Christmas and I'd end up losing money.

Sounds par for swingle. They promised me a foreman position after I jumped through their hoops. Jumped through all the hoops and they still kept me on as seasonal. Telling me the higher ups had to discuss it. I called bs and dumped them to the curb. Must say though I know how to prune a tree good. And using a chainsaw daily was fun!

What's confusing is ebay says shipping is from a certain number of days from receiving cleared funds. I have not received cleared funds, so technically, I don't have to ship it until those funds are released?

I remember I sold a knife on eBay. Then I had to wait on the money being deposited. Then a month later I get like a $15 bill from eBay for selling my knife. Had I known that I would've bumped the price. First and last time. I'll stick to forums or ftf.

AW WTF!!!

Apparently incurred a $27 fee. WTF is that for?! They just automatically take 10% of my sale? Well thats BS! Meh, oh well. Guess I still came out ahead overall as selling the item for 80% of retail after incurred fees is still better than not having a buyer at 60% of retail price and having low balls offer 40% retail.

And I had it listed on armslist and a few other sites but again, only low balls.

eta: Would have been nice if they posted that in the "Fees" section BEFORE I listed the auction. It showed "Fees = $0.00". Not "Fees = $0.00 + 10% Final Sales Fee".

158 it is. It seems the centerline is actually 0.06" lower on the 158 than on the 104. My 104 fits perfectly against my cheek on another rifle.

that reminds me that I need lens caps. Also I'm going to sink another $450 in this gun by the time I get a trigger and free float the barrel. Damned expensive hobby!

nice looking rifles BTW belly.

last summer was very expensive, as far as rifles are concerned. I started the gun obsession just wanting the carbine work to get better, then it grew into pistols and pistol competitions. Then the then-upcoming trip to the mountains prompted me into 'carbine-plus/SPR'type shooting, which led into an infatuation with longer range shooting, which is where I am today.

im certainly no expert, but I've sunk a couple of pennies into the shooting sports.

Your rails look to be around 12 inches. I'd ask for a measurement check if you were home just to get an idea.

BuffCyclist
12-25-2013, 20:30
I always thought I wanted some super awesome handguards and stuff (Larue, Noveske, etc) but after researching a bunch, I found the Troy Alpha is a great rail, low cost and very lightweight. Don't have one yet, because I got gun ADD and stopped building my 2nd AR so I could buy a bigboy rifle instead.

BuffCyclist
12-25-2013, 20:30
And for the record, that's very inappropriate! Asking a man to measure the length of his rail. [Shake]
