Services for G'mom today were very tastefully done, a lot of work went into it from all my uncles and aunts (and spouses), and it paid off with how well everything went. I was proud to participate and help carry her to her final destination. I kept it together too, which was nice.

Interestingly enough, when the funeral procession arrived at the cemetery, the rain broke......and resumed when the services had been completed. Maybe she pulled a string or two for us? A friend of the family was there to play the bagpipe, and he did an awesome job. She was of Scottish decent.
Glad everything went well, G'mom is now looking down on you, making sure everything is 10-4.

The hardest thing I ever went through was watching my wife's sorrow and grief over her deceased father. It was most hard during his service. Even more so than watching my mother grieve over my father's passing. Not that I didn't in private, but I barely shed a tear the day my pa was put to rest and felt bad for that. However, many circumstances led to that moment and I can't get it back. I cried like a baby when I looked at my wife after she pressed a kiss to her father's urn she carried to the altar. Damn, allergies are kicking in again.

Ugh, my grandpa is about to go. Been in the hospital for a week now with all sorts of problems... He's just getting old and his body is starting to fail.

Maybe this sounds insensitive, but i won't mourn his loss much. He means a lot to me, but I don't feel sorry for him. He has lived a hell of a life and he is just about ready to move on. I'm more worried about my dad. :-/ Seeing my dad all broken up like that just destroys me more than anything else in the world. Fortunately, I haven't had to say goodbye to any close friends before their time.

My Shield is 7+1....and I feel pretty comfortable with that. I don't think I'd like to carry a much larger frame than that though, especially when going appendix. I've learned I need a better variety of holsters for different types of occasions. I need to start looking around.

Yup, I've become quite comfortable toting the Shield around lately. Aside from the standard 7 round and 8 round mags that come with it, I've got 3 additional 8 rounders that I can throw in my pockets if I feel the need, but they are usually at least in the diaper bag.

Checked rain gauge yesterday about 5 pm, 7 1/4" for last 2 weeks and over 11" for last month. I don't know about every one else but I don't need any more rain for a while.

About $1000 damage to my road due to having to drive on it and not being able to blade it, will lose 3 loads worth of recycled asphalt. Will have to wait to see if any loss to hay production, I kind of doubt any damage.

Plenty of neighbors have damage to wheat due to flood, erosion and hail.

Some times mother nature brings bountiful harvest and some times she sends you home hungry.

What's Agents of Shield?

TV series spun off from the Marvel movies, features agent Coulson and his team of agents. It begins after the events of The Avengers, and the show has intertwined with the movies since then, including Thor 2, The Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron.

The first few episodes are pretty bland, but it picks up the pace and hasn't slowed down since. Season 1 is on Netflix. When I discovered it, I blew through the show in a week during downtime at work.

The movers are here packing up all our shit into boxes, and I noticed a weird streak on the wall of my office.... I look closer and it looks like we had some serious water intrusion sometime in the last two weeks. Streaks down the entire outer wall of the office. I'm guessing the gutters overflowed from all the hail and a bunch of it came in.

What the fuck do I do now? We are leaving in 6 days and our renters are moving in the week after. What the fuck. Fuck.

What anyone else would do. Clean the gutters, call your ins company, let them deal with it.

THEN............... make sure your tenants have renters ins, for a number of reasons. Also do not volunteer you're moving and renting it out. IF anyone (from the ins co) ask after you're gone. They're relatives staying there while you're out of town.

That's good news. Usually with ice damming there is no actual damage to the roof system (so no leaks when it rains), and if the water is such a small amount that you are just now noticing it, you are more than likely in good shape. Dry wall, in my opinion, is kind of like a light bulb, it's either ruined, or it's fine. With small amounts of water, once it dries up, the wall still maintains its integrity. It sounds like a small amount of water, but the insulation could be soaked and that will hold water. You could call a local mitigation company like ServPro or Rainbow, or someone like that, and ask them to come over with a moisture meter and run it on the walls. That may tell you if the insulation is wet. Take all this with a grain of salt, but at most (keep in mind this is just a some what educated guess) you are looking at removing drywall and insulation for at least one wall, replacing insulation and drywall, texturing (if applicable) and painting the wall. Otherwise, I'd just put a coat of paint over it.

Thanks for you thoughts. It looks like I'll have to do a quick repaint anyway... Mrs. HB was pulling things off the wall and really messed up the paint in a few spots. I'm really just concerned with protecting my investment while I'm gone. i.e.: how do I prevent this from happening again?

Ice and water shield can help prevent this. It can be put on afterward, but you'll want to have someone check to see what all is involved in case it is cost prohibitive (i.e. you have to detach and reset the gutters and replace the drip edge).

Plus, how long have you lived there without an ice dam before? It is kind of a gamble to do nothing. The quick solution is a de-icing cable across the eave that can be plugged in when it is cold. That's probably a safe bet. Depends on the politics over the next few years here. We do have family here, Mrs HB grew up here, and we own a home here, so there is a lot to draw us back.
