BuffCyclist

Over an hour away, private club, membership is like $500/yr, only have access on certain days. And from what I hear, its a pretty crappy range.

ChickNorris
08-24-2019, 05:13
I see.

BuffCyclist
08-24-2019, 05:18
And yes, in the grand scheme of things, thats probably not that bad, especially to the cost of indoor ranges.

But I got used to a $60/yr membership, sunrise to sunset, 7-days a week. 4 private general purpose lanes, 16-pistol lanes, 200-yd rifle and 400-yd rifle. Staffed with complimentary target stands.

edit: its primarily the distance. Losing 2-hrs travel time means Id have to be at the range at least 3-hrs to make it worth it, and thats half a day. Which translates to lots of money in ammo.

Amen to that. Weld cty is $125 365/6 sunrise - sunset out to 200 meters. Pawnee (split fee with other forum members) my part was $30-40 year round sunrise to sunset

Down here it's a 10 - 30 min drive depending how far out i want to shoot. Or the range ($150 membership) able to draw from holster, discount on classes, soon to go out 5-600 yds with steel plates. Or i can drive to the valley and shoot at Ben Avery

Or ....hypothetically suppressed 22 in an undisclosed area ;)

The hummingbird feeders attract a decent flow of traffic. There's an inquisitive one who has no problem literally coming with in inches of you.

He/she fly's around your head, chirps a few times, then takes off. Seeing there's no threat will come back to visit some more before a final goodbye. We're hoping we get a visit when we're sitting down.

BuffCyclist
08-24-2019, 09:05
Yea, in NM, if I drove an hour, I had access to a 1k+ yd range. Was building up my long range skills at 200-400yds (reloads included) before I went out there. Then we moved and I never got the opportunity. :(

I just cant justify that cost, especially with the long drive to get to the range. If it was that high and 15-min away, it might be more manageable. Oh well, one day we’ll have better access to a range.

Thank you, I think it will be.

It's a '79 F-250 but it has a 7.3 powerstroke in it. I actually started the project eight or so years ago, but life problems hindered progress for several years. It was actually Labor day weekend last year that I took the cab off the chassis and replaced the first engine that I put in. So...this last year much has happened, and it's getting close to completion. I should be able to get a decent pic of the whole thing after the driveshafts are done and I can get it outside again. Driveshafts are waiting on the T-case install, which should be ready to pick up Mon/Tue latest.

Yeth.....backed with the 4R-100.

The engine itself is still stock other than the turbo which has the back pressure delete and a wicked wheel. I might take the chip out of the ambulance and put it on the truck one day to see how it behaves.

THE 6TH NATIONAL CORVETTE CARAVAN IS SLATED FOR AUGUST 28-31, 2019.

Often referred to as the world’s largest moving automotive event, the National Corvette Caravan is a celebration of America’s Sports Car, culminating in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the anniversary celebration of the National Corvette Museum. Hosted only once every five years, the next event is slated for Labor Day Weekend 2019 and will mark the Museum’s 25th Anniversary. Leading the charge will be Jeffrey Duda of Hainesport, NJ, a Lifetime Member of the Museum and previous co-captain of the New Jersey 2014 and 2009 Caravans.

Regional caravans will form and join other caravans as they travel across the United States to meet in Bowling Green, Kentucky for four days of festivities at the National Corvette Museum. An event such as this requires years of planning and coordinating. All help is appreciated!

OBC, that sounds like a pretty cool project! The detailed photos you've shared already make it look awesome, can't wait to see the more completed thing!

And I used to be in a Mini (Cooper) club in NM. They would go on monthly day trips to see various things. It's quite the sight to see 50+ Mini Coopers driving in unison, reaching their destination, and then filling up only a single parking space. [ROFL1]

Too hot today. Doggo ran out of juice half way through our long walk.
Tackled the garage org today. Put up an 7ft 2x10 board, got some forked hooks and put them 16" oc. All larger hand garden tools and piwered tools got hung up. Needs some further masaging, but got everything off the floor and out of the way. Just need to do a similar approach for extension cables. The cleaning and crap reduction is slow but ongoing.

08-26-2019, 11:32
Oh, thought I had the feel of my new trigger sorted. Shot two matches yesterday & well, apparently not while on the clock.

Was feeling unwell yesterday too but that's not a legitimate excuse as I did manage cut over 40 seconds off my best time ever on one stage. That has me @ par with the ... well, I'll just say it doesn't wholly suck. I'll take it as my win for the day.

Ive done nothing but drink from a firehose in the last year & I'm still insatiable when it comes to my thirst for improvement @ each match. In addition to my usual training I had hoped this upgrade would be a marked leap, instead I just kept my usual pace & even stumbled a bit.

Lots of fundamental range work on my bill for the next two weeks if I don't want the same mediocrity at the Big Ben Tactical. Need to rule out my failures before I prescribe a remedy & make mods to the trigger.

There are so many variable aspects at each shoot, take pride in your advancement. You're going to have peaks and plateaus....might be some more time before your next peak, be comfortable with that. Miss making pumpkin pie as Festal's farm is long gone. Not worth making if I don't have proper pumpkin. Libbys bought them out & that libbys squash they call pumpkin is rancid filth I wouldn't feed to livestock.

Aren't there other places to get pumpkins? Does it take a certain kind to make a good pie? I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie (but I love me some pecan!)

Speaking of pumpkins, I've already given three pumpkins to my neighbors. One the dog knocked off the vine. The other two are full orange and it seems that once they turn orange, they stop growing. I'm expecting at least 10 basket ball or larger pumpkins this year. I'm excited.

Have you tried it on the rocks, or just cutting it with water?

That's what I do with flavored whiskey.

I carved & wore a pumpkin on my head one Halloween. It was more comfortable than I thought it would be. Maybe you've already grown your costume.

Festal farm grew a particular pumpkin ideal for pies which yielded about 2/3 per acre less than what Libbys grows & calls pumpkin. Had I known, I would have paid double for each can (which was already quite expensive) if it would have kept the farm going. Best part was you could preorder your pumpkin & it was shipped directly to you. When they were sold out that was it until next year.

Might be you don't like squash pie as you've probably never had real pumpkin pie with the proper kind of pumpkin. Exactly why I don't bother making it now.

I went to a tasting/class at Laws Whiskey House. Didn’t know what I didn’t know, and was impressed. Still more of a tequila fan, but bourbon is starting to carve a spot. And they’re going to start distilling an agave based spirit (can’t call it “Tequila” if not from Jalisco, or at least Mexico - not sure), but I’m looking forward to it. In unrelated news, my quads are sore. Pathetic really. I spent about 30 minutes hanging / squatting on the outflow grate at Sloan’s Lake yesterday to rescue a couple of ducklings that were swept inside. All in all, cool that babies are back with mama-duck, but I’m embarrassed at the mild exertion that made me feel so sore. The new me ain’t what the old me was. Or the old me ain’t what the young me was. Either way, meh.

Yeah, it was both shoulders for a while, but my left one seems to be fine. I'm sure it is some injury and I was thinking rotator cuff. I haven't had the time, or money, to get it checked out. Now that we have insurance, I think, I'll probably have to get it checked out this winter.

It's painful all the time, but hasn't really prevented me from doing anything thus far. When it was starting to feel better, I started trying to work out and push-up and pull-ups really flared it up.

Band-aids have value. I can't say the same for Taylor Swift.

She's got your number bro.

You are somebody that I don't know
But you're takin' shots at me like it's Patron
And I'm just like, damn, it's 7 AM
Say it in the street, that's a knock-out
But you say it in a Tweet, that's a cop-out
And I'm just like, "Hey, are you okay?"

And I ain't tryna mess with your self-expression
But I've learned a lesson that stressin' and obsessin' 'bout somebody else is no fun
And snakes and stones never broke my bones

So oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
You need to calm down, you're being too loud
And I'm just like oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh (oh)
You need to just stop
Like can you just not step on my gown?
You need to calm down

You are somebody that we don't know
But you're comin' at my friends like a missile
Why are you mad?
When you could be GLAAD? (You could be GLAAD)
Sunshine on the street at the parade
But you would rather be in the dark age
Just makin' that sign must've taken all night

You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace
And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate
'Cause shade never made anybody less gay

So oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
You need to calm down, you're being too loud
And I'm just like oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh (oh)
You need to just stop
Like can you just not step on his gown?
You need to calm down

And we see you over there on the internet
Comparing all the girls who are killing it
But we figured you out
We all know now we all got crowns
You need to calm down

Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
You need to calm down (you need to calm down)
You're being too loud (you're being too loud)
And I'm just like oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh (oh)
You need to just stop (can you stop?)
Like can you just not step on our gowns?
You need to calm down

The only oil I generally change myself is the truck @12 qts (2x/year) and the boat @4 qts x2 engines (1x/year) and I try to get it disposed of right away. Keeping the first set of oil jugs for waste and rotating helps. I FU one time and bought a 5 gal pail of rotella for the truck and got a little jammed up even with a big oil drain pan in the picture. Getting oil out of the 5-gal was a PITA too.

Taking a few minions fishing this coming weekend at Lake John.

Hoping fishing picks up from what it was midsummer.

Slow fishing at Lake John is how we discovered Ranger Lakes.

Ha, I've barely seen my kids this week. Thanks work for being such a buzzkill and getting in the way of my family life!

My wife, in-laws, and kids (did they even contribute any money?!) bought me a fire pit for my birthday next month. It came in a ginormous box, which is now a "fort" in my backyard. My girls take markers with them and color the inside of it every time they go outside. I can't wait to see what they're drawing when the rain comes, ruins the box, and I have to throw it away.

Good luck fishing! It seems like they're starting to bite more now that its cooling off a bit.

My oldest wants to go fishing again tomorrow, so we may end up going out last minute. Good thing we live at a lake!

Watching a stupid show right now, and they show the view through a scope like this:

https://i.imgur.com/EJVAv2xl.jpg

Am I the only one that is skeptical? Distance to target is 1.3k, yet the zoom is only 14.4 and a man fills the entire FOV?

Also, how much does one have to spend on a scope to get the built-in range finder (the distance to target keeps changing as the scope moves around).

edit: LOL!! The distance to target changed from 1.2k to 1.3k while moving from the guy on the right, to the guy on the left. Apparently, they're throwing punches over 100yds! [ROFL1]

I switched out my fancy 45 safety selector for milspec yesterday. It was restricting the overtravel on my trigger to near nil & was messing with my mojo.

I don't care for mojo mussing.

I'll play with the sd-e as it was designed for the weekend & then decide if it's the right trigger for me. Least enough to move forward with it or not.

Fussy business fine tuning.

ChickNorris
08-31-2019, 08:13
Oh & it stalled a few times. Likely from fouling as expected.

Can't have that. Ever.

ChickNorris
08-31-2019, 08:25
Also decided to move my optic as far forward in the mount, & the mount as far forward on my reciever as possible. While back I moved to center the rifle on my chest just under my eye & it's a preferable alternative to what I was taught before. However, with that change in fundamentals I was head bobbing & wrenching my neck a bit trying to find the sweet spot for eye relief that stock adjustments just didn't manage. Got a bit of tuning to do there as well, eventually, but there was no sense in reinforcing bad posture without promised effect on progress.

Now I have my single point of index from which to rebuild.

ChickNorris
08-31-2019, 08:32

& then you're immediately over it. The idea was better.

Today, in the great state of Oklahoma, we registered 2x 2016 year vehicles (van and motorcycle) and a 2000 year vehicle (SUV) for less than the registration cost of the van in Colorado (had I not applied the DV plate to it). Total for all 3 vehicles? ~370 bucks.

In fact, the SUV in CO was ~200 some odd dollars if I recall correctly. Here? less than 70.

Does OK still have inmates staffing the DMV dial-in numbers?

Be careful if you ever buy a vehicle that was previously registered in a native-American nation. I know someone that went through hell trying to get it registered by the state.

Might be an El Paso county thing, but I dunno. The one thing I was always glad about was the DV plate for the van. I think CO would have charged us like 490+ for that without the fee being waived.
