And yes, M82 is 12 million light years away. As in, light travels for 12 million years at the super fast speed (of light, duhh) before it reached us. LONG ways away.

They expect it to reach maximum brightness in about 2 weeks, which is the point to really rake in the data to use for the standard candle database (which I'm sure such a thing exists, astronomers have databases for EVERYTHING [LOL] )

Not sure how I feel about the QRP mount or whatever it is, always seems like the ratchet mechanism is broken. I'll click it 3 times, then shortly after shooting it a bunch, will check it and the reference line is off, so I click it again and it moves rather easily. [Dunno]

I have a 13 mile drive. It took me ten extra minutes but I left a half hour early. Three cars spun out, the worst stuck job was a subaru. Invincible drivers....lol....saw another guy hit a traffic light control box. The officer looked pretty irritated.
I have a 27 mile commute. Yesterday I had to be in to work by 6am, which was nice because most of the yahoos weren't on the roads yet. Added bonus is that I was driving on fresh snow that hadn't been packed and frozen by hundreds of other cars driving on it, so traction was considerably better (in this case)

A few years back, it snowed heavily in Dallas where my aunt/uncle live (my entire extended family lives in texas actually). It was so much snow in fact, that it shut the entire city down. Stores closed. No one went in to work. School was cancelled. Sheer madness!

My uncle got dressed up in his ski gear, put on his ski boots, and was holding his skis in front of his house. He emailed that picture around to friends/family asking which way to the ski lift. The funny part was that it was barely even half an inch of snow. [LOL]

eta: Found the picture, but not going to post it. He was wearing regular clothes and was just holding his skis/poles with his boots over his shoulder. The email subject was "Anyone know the way to the ski lift???" and inside the email was the picture and "Massive snow storm".

I've done about 10 loads of laundry to clean all the pike/diarrhea covered clothes, blankets, etc. I finally got him to eat a little bit and keep some down about 30 minutes ago... If he wasn't better by lunch time he was going to the ER for dehydration.

Poor lil guy! Yeah I was up until 2am cleaning up. The ex took over from then. Amazing how you get used to the smell of upchuck.

You have Pedialyte on hand? One of the better things for kids, help replenish electrolytes . It's an item everyone should consider having on hand, especially as a BOB item.

I do have the entire original ST series on DVD, when I was little, mom encouraged me to watch stuff like Star Trek/ Cosmos, hell even Bob Ross.

instead we did other good things like study music and read history books. I read lots of biographies and autobiographies of WWII generals and other characters like Chuck Yeager. I've read every Stephen E Ambrose book. It's a shame we lost such a great history compiler.

Small cluster of 5 houses but each was on an acre and not close. But all around us was just land. Gulch on each side. I'd explore for hours. Only downside were the mosquitos.

Yeah, Black Forest would be great if land didn't cost $25k+ per acre... and that's for the crappy land on sand with no desirable features. The good stuff is $2-300k for 5 acres.
