My Fiancee laughed and scoffed when I said I wanted to have a separate bank account for emergency funds, appliance replacement and vehicle maintenance (that also has insurance deductibles for each vehicle in case we are unlucky enough to get in accidents with all 3 cars).

Just got a call saying she got stuck at the store and her battery was dead. Her dad was coming to rescue her to take her to the auto store to get a new one. She then thanked me for having that vehicle account so she could buy a new battery today.

She owes me a [Beer]

And this is why I fucking HATE auto parts stores! The clerks are fucking useless! I told my Fiancee to make sure she gets the battery for the 2.4L model because it will be a larger battery.

I called after I saw they paid for hte battery and asked about it, and she started asking how they tell what size engine it is. I told her it was the 2.4L model and asked why. She said the new battery was half the size of the old battery. [Bang]

Now she gets to take it back, and hope that they'll exchange it and give her the new battery. Luckily, I'll be home in the morning to take her to work if they won't. I have my way with people. I WILL get the new battery if they don't give it to her. Apparently all they did was take out the old battery and put the new one in the tray and saw the difference, they didn't even hook up the terminals yet.

Maybe this experience will finally allow me to convince her to let me teach her to drive a manual. My truck and my MINI are both manual and she can't drive them, so if her car breaks down (like today) she can't just take another car to work. If I had my way too, her car would be manual, but she bought it before we met so...

Ha, no idea. Her dad was with her and he knows his way around vehicles so I didn't think we'd have a problem. Sigh, things like this always happen to her when I'm on a work shift.

For instance, Friday night after I left, she was cleaning up the bedroom, she saw a vinegaroon behind the bedroom door and started freaking out. She doesn't even like moths, so this thing nearly gave her a heart attack. She had to call her mom to come take it outside and her mom started tormenting her after she picked it up and was on her way to carry it outside. I'll have to applaud her mom when I get home for doing that to her [LOL]

Haha, I've posted pictures of them in this thread before and that is everone's unanimous response [LOL]. They're actually harmless, they are good bugs and EAT scorpions without breaking a sweat. If you piss them off or threaten them, then they might spray you with vinegar (hence the name). Though its really just an acetic acid spray and smells horrible.

About 100 pages ago when it was last brought up, I had mentioned how I went out to my garage to start a load of laundry. When I turned around to head back inside, one of those guys was staring me down right in the middle of my path. I flipped my shit and went to reach for my CCW, then I realized what exactly I was going to shoot with my Glock 23 and was like, oh wait, LOL.

They'll definitely freak you out if you aren't expecting them. They're about 4" long and the healthy ones have a thick back end and huge pincers!

Yea, pretty much stomp scorpions into greasy spots. Worked on a pipeline job outside Alamogordo back in the late 80's. Scorpions would crawl up on the tractors because of the heat retention at night. Couple of close calls until we learned to check for them and snakes.

There's a canyon just outside of town that you can go hiking in year round, but its not advised in the summer. During then, you can throw a stone in any direction and hit a rattlesnake.

A coworker said he took his dog hiking up there to scout out the barbary sheep for his next hunt (a few weeks later). He said he kept hearing this weird noise, then saw his dog was really interested with something. Checked it out and sure enough, a rattler. Then he realized that sound he had heard all along was rattlers. Freaked out, threw his dog on a leash, got out his gun and slowly but carefully hiked out of there.

Fuck scorpions, and those, and the spiders we have here... Last time we went hiking, we came across a tarantula... it scared the bejesus out of me! I was sitting, and was leaning back, arms propping me up from behind. A stick moved under my finger and so I looked back, a friggen tarantula is what moved the stick. It was two inches from crawling on me. It wasn't too big of a spider, only about 4" in diameter, but I hate, *hate* spiders. I jumped up, and before I stopped, ya, my hand was clinching the grip on my Hk (still holstered)... My wife laughed her ass off (didn't think I had that kind of vertical). She then told me the legal reasons I couldn't shoot it bla bla bla bla..... So, I took a few rounds out of the mag, and thew them at it. Stupid little thing....

Disclaimer* It was on soft dirt when I threw the rounds at it.

The wolf spider (the one in the canning jar) almost got a hole in it, or it's legs separated from its body, by a 45 round, or seven... I actually drew on it, straight out, was going to shoot the fucker. That was the closest I had ever come to a giant spider, ever, and spiders are one of two of my irrational fears. Since then, I have calmed down a lot when it comes to spiders since this place has a ton of them. Ya though, had my custom 1911 on it, and believe me, the trigger was nice, smooth, and light. The fact that I didn't put any through it I think showed great trigger finger control... lol After about an hour of screaming at it, jumping around my house, and going nuts, I calmed down and caught it in the jar.

I've been jumped, in more fights than I care to admit to, had to use bean bag rounds on people, free style motocrossed, and cliff dived off of really stupid shit at Lake Powell, but nothing has ever come close to getting me up and going like that Wolf Spider invading my house... I stood dead in my tracks and it didn't move either (was shining my Fenix LD10 at it on turbo mode, then strobe). Finally, the eyes disappeared and I saw this HUGE (a good 4-5" in diameter) tail loop around and I made a mad dash for my front door. Ran inside, grabbed my AR and when to look out the back windows with the lights on. Went out hte next day and saw huge mountain lion footprints in the snow. Scared the bejesus out of me!

So get this. I tell my wife that I think that I'll go fishing in the morning. She's cool with that, as usual (damn good thing too...LOL).

Then she says, "Can I come with the baby?"

At first I'm thinking whaaaa? Then I tell her sure! That'll be cool as hell. I happen to be going to a local reservoir that has super easy access. No sweat getting the baby there in our 4X4 stroller. I just planned on a few hours on the water anyway, so this'll be a great morning.

My wife rocks!

My friend, either you have never had a baby, or you never leave the pavement. I figure that you are the former. Standard 6" wheeled strollers do not work well off road, or on any dirt surface for that matter. You need a rig like this:
http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af308/juanez3248/85809b3b-02e4-4fb6-b32a-739eea876c44_zps72993118.jpg

Yaah, I went through a few years of "debates" and "negotiation" too. My wife had 2 already, me...none. Eventually, I decided that I really wanted a kid. I was not about to do that if I didn't want to. But I did eventually, after a few years (or she wore me down...we'll never know).

And this stroller is not powered....except by me. It does have independent rear spring suspension, hand brakes, retractable sun visor, undercarriage storage, iPod input, dual beer (or other beverage) holders, adjustable steering wheel, and of course the optional pistol holster.

Bad Ass.

It's definitely a badass stroller, thats fo sho!

We're 27/28 and we're getting married in a few months, neither of us have had kids before. She had talked about kids a year or two ago, and insinuated that it would be the right timing immediately after our wedding. Now she's thinking she wants to wait something more like 2-3 years from now, but its because she wants my career to really take off (which it will, and I'll have more info in a few weeks so a very exciting time for us even if you ignore the 2 surgeries I'll be having in the next few months lol).

She's also getting into a new sport (fitness bikini competitions) and wants to compete before having a baby, so we'll see how things develop on that front.

GilpinGuy
07-22-2013, 02:17
Well, obviously, having a baby will severely cripple the opportunity for the "fitness bikini competitions". I'll refrain from the many jokes that can be made there. Believe me, having a baby changes most women forever. Not that it makes her ugly or repulsive or anything, but it does some...changes, to be kind. There will be no bikini competitions after a kid, unless your fiance is one of those remarkable women that bounce back like nothing ever happen. Rare.

Now, that being said, having a baby has been the most incredible thing of my freaking life. I'm 41 and my wife is 39. Basically, I had to decide to have one or not really soon. After we got married (4 years living together before that) I decided I was really ready.

Sleepless nights feeding her, catering to every problem, changing diapers. I love this girl more than anything in the freaking world. More than I thought I would.

Look, you didn't ask for advice, and I usually don't offer it unless someone does. But in my opinion, having a child shouldn't be made when "when we have the money", or "when I get to this or that position in my career" or "when we have a bigger house". If you and your wife are ready to have a child, then do it. Things will work out.

We had decided to "conceive" January 2012. It was a deliberate decision. Then I got laid off 6 months earlier than that. We agonized over the whole thing then said fuck it and went with it. Remarkably, nobody shriveled up and died. We made it just fine.

What the fuck am I doing here? Writing an autobiography? Ho's got to go!

I agree, I don't think we should wait for when the time is right, because it never will be. Who knows, it may happen sooner than we expect it to and that would truly be a blessing. My Fiancee basically raised her niece, as her sister/husband lived in the same town too, only just moved away a year ago (she will be 4 in November). We skype with them at least once a week, and she always lights up my Fiancees face.

I honestly think its the fear of the unknown for her, and wondering what will happen and how we can raise the baby for the first few years and still both work. Her parents live right down the street from us (literally, its a 3min walk to their house) and they have commented about how they would always be there to help us out with anything. Which is exactly what they did for our niece. Not that I think we should dump our baby on the in-laws, but I hope you get what I'm trying to convey.

Anywho, she asked me tonight for a date that I'd want to have a baby in my arms. I kind of deflected, as she had a shitty day and wasn't really in the right frame of mind (horrible day with the battery, getting stranded, road rage, feeling sick, drama at work, etc), but I'm sure as the wedding gets closer we'll talk more about it and things might change.

Good luck with that. Once she starts toning up, restraint will be the hardest (no pun intended) thing you'll be dealing with. It's not planning that gets a bun in the oven, but spur of the moment. We never "planned' on kids, just happened.

Opened my box of 1k M193 bullets from Xtreme Bullets. Boxes were sliced opened, so I had to count to make sure they were all there. 1006 bullets accounted for. Whew, I was worried I didn't get a full 1k! Guess I can update my ammo cost by components spreadsheet now...[LOL]

Now I'm reading that 55gr bullets should be seated at 2.220". So now I'm debating pulling those bullets and starting over, seating deeper and then testing the loads.

As long as they will fit in the mag you're good 2.20 is the low side of OAL. I load to 2.25 or cannalure.Sometimes that OAL is 2.20 - 2.50. If you're that concerned just read at them vs pulling

Starting to freak out. My reloading manual (and another two manuals that I found online) said to load my 55gr FMJ (223) to a COL of 2.260". So I did that, for all 7 loads and 35 rounds.

Now I'm reading that 55gr bullets should be seated at 2.220". So now I'm debating pulling those bullets and starting over, seating deeper and then testing the loads.

They're all sitting in mags. Wanted an easy way to transport the loads, so I loaded up 7 mags with the 5rds each and put tape on each mag with the info. I thought they looked funny and started looking around and realized that's what it was. I think I might try just seating them a little deeper and calling it good.

knock them back to 2.25 if you feel uncomfortable @ your OAL. No need to pull and reload.

Just did that, much easier than I thought. For some reason I thought the crimp would make seating them deeper a little harder but it was a piece of cake.

I wasn't necessarily uncomfortable with my OAL, but I'd like to pickup common reloading practices, such as loading 55gr FMJ to the shorter end of the spectrum at 2.220" and longer bullets closer to the maximum 2.260" length.

I hear ya. it's one of the reasons i use 2 powders for pistol and rifle. Titegroup / pistol and 2230 / the AR's. I have TAC and x-terminator as back up. However knowing your comfort zone is one less puzzle piece to worry about.

I agree. At this point, I'm loading 9mm, 40 and 223 and can already see how minimizing powders will be smart in the long run. Just found out that my LGS is getting 10#'s of Varget on Thursday. I have 3 "reserved". Didn't want to be too greedy, besides I only have 1k bullets at this point and 3lbs is enough to get me through those bullets.

Mine are all usually within 0.003-0.004" of each other, at least of the 35 that I've loaded [LOL]. Pistol I can usually get to be within 0.002" without even trying.

Ooh snap, no crimping?! But, but... what happens when the zombies hit and you get scared while loading your one 30rd AR mag (cause you only told the gov you had 1, right?) and then drop all of those 30 bullets (cause you don't have a stockpile of ammo either) onto concrete and they land bullet tip down?! [Shock]

Oh, and hoping its a sign of good things to come, my Walmart also had about 1k of WWB and Federal Bulk 9mm. I was shocked to see it sitting on the shelves. They also got a bunch of large caliber rifle stuff. That's the first time ammo has been on the shelves at my walmart since december last year.

I fucked up my arm diving my fat ass off a 25' cliff two weeks ago. Perfect form but over rotated. Tore the shit outta something. Had to hop a few flights the day after I got back and still haven't had time to go see Doc.

Damn man. Good luck with that.
