My phone sounded an alarm last night around 2am. Apparently, the National Weather Service issued an "It's Extremely Serious and Totally Gonna Happen Flood Warning". When my wife checked her phone after I woke her up accidentally, she had the same thing but her phone didn't sound the alarm.
Then around 330am, the house was smelling very strong of smoke. It wasn't the forest fire kind it was the your house is on fire kind. Got up frantically and ran around, not that much unlike this: [panic]. But quietly because my wife and sister were asleep. Went outside and didn't see/smell anything on fire, so I'm wondering if the evaporative cooler was making it worse or if my evaporative cooler fan motor is about to die.

Haha, the only kid I've ever been around is my niece the last few years. My wife is scared to have a boy, she says they're difficult. I'm like, seriously? when I was a kid, my mom would buy me a small pack of legos (the old ones in plastic bags for like $3 they don't sell anymore) and that would keep me busy all day. I used to sit on the side of the tennis courts while she would play in tournaments for up to 6-8hrs a day. I would sit there with my snack and legos and never whine, fuss, or even make a noise. How much easier can you get than that?! [LOL]

We had that Ft collins fire 2-3 yrs ago?? 11 am perfectly clear. 11:30 you couldn't see the sidewalk. We're 30 miles away from where the fires were. It's hazy up here today too.

The wifes clamp on fan...mounted on the head board of the bed, smoked the motor in the middle of the night a year or two ago.....scared the shit out of me. Wasn't enough to set the smoke alarms off yet, but I'm actually really damn glad that *while asleep* I woke up because of the smell.

This isn't the entirety of the letter, but there was some law change that happened within the last couple years that apparently turns OLD ass cases into a new status of some kind. Highlights are from me for the purposes of this post.
Reads:
You were initially denied in 2013 (the Bushmaster AR platform 308) and again in 2014 (S&W M&P 40 Shield) for a conviction on your Colorado criminal history for Misdemeanor Assault on Police Officer. Under Colorado State Statute, the offense of Assault on a Police Officer carries an additional sentencing enhancer that would have prohibited you for the purchase and possession of a firearm.
Supplemental research has been conducted by the CBI and it has determined that the assault case was based upon a municipal code violation and was heard in Municipal Court only. As such, any potential sentence does not included the additional sentencing enhancer that would be needed to prohibit the purchase or possession of a firearm. And entry has been made on our database to reflect this information and this issue should not impede any future firearm purchases.
Sentencing enhancer? Um....evidently some people are seriously going to get hosed by the "enhancer".
I cleared my problem up with them at least 15 years ago, and it came back to haunt me a second time due to the "new statute". This stuff is getting pretty scary what "they" can do to you....for things now, or in the very distant past.

stripped as in rounded off or stripped as in cross threaded in? IF you cannot get a flat jawed Vise Grips (R) to work, while applying low heat to pan. . Plan B center punch the plug, drill through in 2-3 increments, then use a GOOD screw extractor. See if bobbyz has a snap-on spline type extractor. Ir not i can have one down to you monday-tuesday.

Oh hell, I was in that thread, don't have time to get one before the trip. Fumoto valve.
Jim, I've got some easy outs, but am worried that if the bolt is so tight that it'd round off the head with a wrench, that an easy out won't have a chance.

Made my first trailer load of my crap to the new pad, financed a new bed set from Innomax..[facepalm]...it gets delivered and assembled next Saturday. Helped the wife unload 1300 bricks in the 90+ heat, that was fun.
Bummer on the oil pan woes, Irving. If you weren't heading out on a trip, I'd help you get the plug out. I'm unclear if you rounded off the head of the drain plug, but that's what I'm thinking happened? I have some socket rails designed for shit like that.
Don't think my first thought wasn't to drop it off at a Firestone... was it one of those butt holes that got the plug too damn tight in the first place?

What do you mean by that statement about the valves? What are the downsides? Seems that it would make changing the oil much simpler and cleaner for a commoner like myself.
As far as fires go, I grew up having them every weekend in Michigan, just to keep the dead wood on our 4 acres cleared. I love it. Last night, I kept lots of wood on it to keep it really hot and bright. Also helps carry the smoke away.
Got the drain plug out. Fuck you Ford/Mexico.
OBC: I was the one who put it on so tight apparently. Which is weird because I know better.

Decided to upgrade my the RV pull out umbilical cord to a cool watertight 30A twist lock shore power setup.
I knew I would have to build a larger backing plate to go from the round hatch to a sealed flip open square cover but ended up also having I had to fawk around with the shitty POS marine 30A shore power connector from CONNTEK.
JUNK,, GARBAGE POS.
To top it off, I get 3/4 of the way in and determine this POS must have been an RMA return item and one of the screws is busted in two.
I rigged it up with some spare parts but it cost me half a bottle of JD afterwards to calm myslef.

IF you know / learn how to install a drain plug, oil filter etc correctly. HAND TIGHT then 1/4 turn or as directed on the filter package. You should not encounter a problem removing it. I've had vehicles come in where we needed to air chisel the fvken filter off. Low pressure of course. Hand tight MEANS HAND TIGHT!.
OBC has many a year in repairs. I have well,.. a few behind me ;) Seeing what works over time and what doesn't, on a daily basis, it's easier to use stock items.

looking at the plug. If something were to happen (for future reference) I would have ground 2 flats on each side, to give the flat jaw vise grip better purchase. You want to try getting the vise grip as flush with the base of the plug as possible. That area is less likely to round off. One other item for you DIY's USE a 6 not 12pt when removing hard to budge nuts.

Sometimes going metric vs SAE or visa versa and tapping it on a little with a light hammerfor is a trick that can work as well. Like you say, just get a good purchase on it first. Using an impact socket that won't split may be advised as well.

Thanks for the pic Irving...yeah, I have a socket rail that would have taken that out in no time. Brutal is right, sometimes tapping a metronic socket onto stripped standard size head will work great.
HB, I wouldn't use those oil drain valves because of the concerns that Jim, and Irving mentioned about his Amigo on a trail. All you have to hit with your car, is a dip you didn't know was ahead of you..... and that thing will get broken off and you're hosed. Seriously, if you smack something on the highway or drag an oil pan with the stock plug, you'll most likely be able to get home and deal with it later. I understand the good idea about it, but that's why I wouldn't outfit any of my cars with it.
Hittin' the hay and hope I sleep well....I cheated myself of decent sleep last night, shouldn't do it two nights in a row..lol.
An impact is exactly what rounded that bolt off so cleanly. I tried going down in size from 13mm to 12mm to pound a socket on, but it wasn't having it. I should have tried pounding on a 1/2in socket. I considered filing it flat on a side, but I wasn't sure why. Filing for vise grip purchase makes sense.

Glad you got the plug out, Irving. I can't find the sockets I'm talking about so you can see what I mean...but they're knurled/curved in a reverse fashion, and have sharp "teeth" that drive themselves into the sides of the stripped bolt head. As you apply pressure to back the bolt out, the teeth dig into the damaged bolt head and it comes right out 99% of the time.
I can take a pic of them tomorrow, they're pretty neato.

[pick-me]
Many times. One of the minions favorite activities when out here is to find/collect bugs.
We have captured Wolf spiders 4" in diameter(across body and legs)and build very tough web lined homes in the cracks that form when our clay soil dries. Not much fun to feed, when they detect you they tend to wait/hide until you leave then dart out and attack prey.
Some sort of Spotted Orbweaver, they build large webs(18" + diam) to catch flying insects and are fun to feed, catch bug(small grass hoppers work well cause they struggle so hard and really vibrate web) and throw against web.
Even an occasional black widow, which are put in gallon jar(with some dirt, grass, twigs, etc like a fully furnished condo) and put in cool dark place. Hole in the lid with tape over it allows bugs to be thrown in.

Thanks, you're probably right and I'm being overly anal about it. 2004.5 2500 RAM Cummins.
It got changed by the Dodge dealer after the first break-in (15k?) and I've only got just under 45K on the clock. Most of that is running around 21K total. It's all synthetic and with the LS rear, has friction modifier in it. I change my oil on time (2x/year) and never hit the miles.
The trans fluid got changed when I put on a deeper pan with a bung for a temp sensor shortly around the same time and it's never cooked so that's GTG. The only thing I keep putting off is installing a larger rear diff cover with bung and temp sensor/gauge but now since Dipricol went out of business, my gauges wouldn't match and I'd have to buy all new.

Dag nabit! He's all the way in Timbuktu!
Amigo needs timing belt, and the shifter cable and a bushing on the auto tranny replaced. I tried to pull the shifter cable myself, and broke the plastic ears off. It will shift into all gears but park, which means you have to put it into neutral to start it. There is some bushing behind the gear selector sensor thing that is letter tranny fluid seep out, and that causes some issues as well. It is actually a common issue on this vehicle, but it is beyond my abilities. After I take care of those two things, then I'll work on going through the drive train and suspension on my own. Oh yeah, there is a very small coolant leak around the intake manifold. You can smell anti-freeze, but it leaks so little, that I've had to fill the coolant reservoir once in several thousand miles. The last guy that was going to do the work for me said it'd be easy enough to take care of while doing the timing belt.
Again, I'd like to be able to do it myself with help, but if it is going to be like a 16 hour nightmare or something, I think I'll just pay a shop.

This is how we operate at our shop for the fleets. It's retarded to tale half the front of the motor apart to get to ONE pulley.... do all of them while you're in there, or you could get hosed for the same labor in a couple of months to do "another" pulley. It just makes sense and saves money in the big picture. We really do take care of our fleets with decisions like these, our customers trust us and we never sell anything that shouldn't be done. We also take care of some stuff for free, believe it or not.

And HOWDY howdy fellers. :)
Met the first of my new neighbors tonight, similar age couple right next door....they just moved in a few weeks back. Seem really cool, and look forward to getting to know them and becoming friends. Ed and Katie.
Don't even ask, yeah, I'd do her....lol. Ed seems alright, has the chance to be as cool as you guys, but that remains to be seen ...ha!
I plan to take some small tokens of friendship to all of the immediate homeowners, exchange some ph numbers for emergency type purposes and stuff like that.

You know, a bottle of wine or something similar.
Anyways, gonna be packing up more stuff each night and hauling it to work, then get out of work and run it to the new pad. Try and make a larger trip with the trailer again on saturday morning, and then wait for the furniture to be delivered.
I also hope to get a free satruday to get down to the renaissance festival for some steak on stake and butt tons of beers, before they close that down for the summer. Nice cleavage down there..

The best gift ideas for that neighborhood. Condoms, KY sensual lube (don't wanna be hip deep in a hipster, without Plan B) , rechargeable batteries. Now for Katie, mmmmmmmm subscription to Spikes TV?
On a serious note, don't get to friendly with them, OR hint you have guns.

Heya Belly !! Good to see ya man.
Yeah, Kazoo, I hear ya. Solid advice.
Irving, the kid said he's interested in your side job...and he's done some similar work on that type of vehicle already. Lemme know, and I'll shoot you his name and contact info.
Okay, tell him not to hold his breath for now. I'll get with you/him when I am ready. I get a company car toward the end of the year and it will be easier to part with the truck at that time.

Damn, the thunder finally started. That first loud one right over the house, that you were not expecting and makes you duck, made me duck. [Tooth]
Some of the ones right over the house make it shake a little. [hammer]
Must be the same thunder we heard over hear a few hours ago. It was good stuff.

Moderate, I think that large black item floating down the yard is our smoker. Or the neighbors mastiff.

Power outage at the observatory all day long. They manually shut everything down to replace some major electric grid part or something. What does that mean for the guy who works at home connecting his computer to the site for a software network license? It means he gets to sit at his computer all day being completely unproductive because his software won't connect to the network license so he can't get any work done.

Anyone do anything cool this weekend?
We went to the Renniasance Festival on Saturday and had lots of fun with HB Jr. The "people watching" there is some of the best around. Totally worth the entry fee.
My favorite part of the Ren Fest is the guy who insults you while you throw tomatoes at him.

I missed his face by about 2 inches. Totally worth 5 bucks for 5 tomatoes. The insults he throws back at you are hilarious.

Got done with work just before 3. Went and got new tires and alignment. Going on a road trip and need them. Glad it was cool out today. Had two roofs. Yesterday was two water losses and it was hot as heck.

Howdy howdy, everyone.
That's cool, Irving, I'll let him know you're kind of in a holding pattern on that side job for a bit.
Gotta pay some bills and get some shit boxed up. Lost some time messing with the wifes trailer wiring...test light checking fuses and some other shit after her license plate bracket fell off, figured something was blown....the damn plug adapter wasn't plugged all the way in, damn near just fell out. *sigh*.....she tries.
Gotta get moving.....literally, Ha!
later homies.

Finally got to finish my latest AR build, it's been in progress for nearly 2 years... :/
Gas tube wouldn't line up with the gas key. It started out moving the gas tube up a bit by the barrel nut. After a little light bending, I was able to get rid of that movement, but then it would jam up the last 0.25" and the only way to get the bolt to close was with the forward assist. Well that's not good. Kept tweaking it with light bends and finally got it to close perfectly. The gas tube doesn't even move now when the BCG slides forward. Wish my scope mount would arrive so I can take it to the range and test fire it!

Thanks OBC, I'll be posting pics probably on Monday. My scope mount should be here on Friday so with any luck I'll be able to get it mounted up once I finish installing the handguard (need the scope mount to align the handguard to receiver).
