I woke up in time to watch the third quarter, then I decided I didn't care so I did my marketing homework instead.
I did enjoy all the people on my FB feed who were ready to have Manning's baby two weeks ago suddenly decide that he was the worst QB in the history of football. Nothing like a little consistency. [facepalm]
LOL! I'm just pissed it wasn't a close game. Oh well.

Yeah, I would have been a lot more satisfied with the game if it were worth watching, regardless of the outcome.
I'm happy, I have a bunch of Moosehead left..

Some couple next to me @ the bar started getting into it with each other. Wife was saying she should've never married someone from Seattle. Crazy people.

I like your optimism.
What i miss that was "sad to watch" ? besides Skyfall / james Bond movie.
I liked skyfall...at least more so than the previous installment.
Yo bitches.... yeah, that was a really sad thing to watch.
Kept flipping back for a sorrow check.
Lets have a good week, fellers.
Peace, and goodnight.
Glutton for punishment?
Welp, I tried to put a crimp in my reloads. I'll go give them a shot to see if that calms down the extreme spread.
Which crimp? With your seating die? Gotta check out the Lee FCD if you don't have it!

I haven't used the FCD because, as I understand it, I would rather have a taper crimp and not a roll crimp. If I had a thick jacketed canneleured bullet, no problem. I'm concerned about the roll crimp cutting through the jacket and causing a whole different set of issues.
I think a jacked up bullet jacket will caused a lot more issues than slightly inconsistent taper crimping, so at this point (until I get my virgin brass and learn to anneal) I'm trying to band-aid (read: calm down the ES) the problem of having over 100fps in ES.

More specifically, since I don't plan on chambering then unchambering these rounds a whole bunch, my worries are entirely that of neck tension and not bullet set-back, hence my earlier comment about canneleured bullets.
Again, the ultimate goal is having a minimal ES when i shoot. Right now it's hovering around 100fpa, and that's the difference between a hit/miss at MOA targets when they are around 750 yards.

I thought the Lee Factory Crimp die was only a roll crimp for revolver calibers. Am I mistaken and did I just get a 308win roll crimp die instead of a taper crimp? [Shock]

And just a little rant
I am seriously annoyed by my IT dept. They secure EVERYTHING and make all site computers so difficult to find, that the server that hosts my drafting software license is always changing. Since they have whitelisted nothing, I can't access the licensing server from home. They have to constantly add my home IP to let me past the firewall. So here I am, waiting for them to update it so I can work. Been waiting for over an hour already and nothing!

Guess I'm not getting any work done today, still haven't done anything and the software still doesn't work. I really freaking wish I could just borrow a license and use it for certain lengths of time without having to have internet connection. There is the option, but the IT guys don't want us to use that, even though there are 3 network licenses and exactly 3 people that use it. [facepalm]

I believe that Lee claims the crimp won't damage cases of bullets without cannelures. I should try it and pull one to see what happens. Maybe I'll experiment when I get back. Btw I don't use canneleured bullets when loading 308, yet. I'll be interested to see what happens on smoothies...

In my research of the Lee FCD, it says it is capable of a light taper crimp, to a hard roll crimp. On my 223, I have a loaded round in the shell holder, ram all the way up and screw in the FCD until it touches. Then lower the ram, screw in the FCD in a little (1/4 turn) and go from there. Belly could probably do the same, increment the FCD in by 1/8 rev turns or something and he might find the sweet spot for his rifle.

Having over-crimped one with the Lee FCD during setup and later pulling it to reclaim the powder, I can tell you it doesn't peel through the jacket.

The hard part here is that my semi-expensive match bullets have very thin jackets. A regular blaster-grade bullet has a little more meat to the copper. I don't know what bullets you used when you pulled it out and reclaimed.
I have SMKs that I can try. That's about as highbrow as I get...

Well, short version, I would say decent. She's taking a trip out of state next week, driving....so she's gonna have a lot of windshield time to think about stuff, and do whatever the hell she wants to do. She won't be back for valentines day, so I'm doing something for her before she leaves. She might come home and tell me she wants a different life, ...I'm not completely sure what to expect so I have to remind myself of all the options on the table.
The gift is above and beyond, but I wanted to make a point. One that she will remember no matter what happens. And I'm cool with what I've done for her, even if stuff doesn't work in the longer run picture, she'll always remember who it came from, and what I feel about her.
It's still shaking out, Wax. I appreciate you asking, brother.

Yeah, i have about 1k .223 cases that are ready for trimming and another 1.5k that are ready for sizing. I probably have about 4k more that are still untouched.
Those are two unrelated pieces of information.
BuffCyclist
02-03-2014, 21:21
Ah, I'm not that fortunate to have 4k untouched. Most of mine are already cleaned/sized/decapped, part of that 2k is primed, but I believe I can still trim them.
The hard part will be running through my brass trying to find that perfect piece of brass that measures 1.750" to setup the tool.
HoneyBadger
02-03-2014, 21:27
Use your current trimmer to make one 1.750. My basic Lee trimmer cuts them 1.750 +/- .002 every time, but it's just a PITA to use.
HoneyBadger
02-03-2014, 21:29
And that 4k untouched is just part of what I've shot over the past 5 years. I always saved my brass, knowing that I wanted to eventually start reloading.

Thanks but I've really just been lazy when it came to buying a trimmer. I already measured most of them and the cutoff for "acceptable" was <1.758", the ones that were longer than that were thrown in to be trimmed bag.
But statistically speaking, there should be a handful of brass that is exactly 1.750". The trick is finding them in the first few minutes of measuring cases.
BuffCyclist
02-03-2014, 21:51
For the record though, I'm starting to regret throwing out my old evaporative cooler motor when I upgraded. I kept it for a while, couldn't think of a use for it then tossed it.
Now all I can think about is setting up a dedicated motor/coupling/WFT trimming station. Oh well, a drill will work just fine.
For 223/556 go on the short side. Unless you are sizing for 500m precision loads. If you are just doing standard AR loads, your reduced trimming in the future will thank you for going on the shortest size of acceptable.

So J, you are a fan of 1.740-1.745"?
I considered it, but seeing as how nearly all of that brass is only once fired and it'll take me a while to get the components to load them up, let alone shoot them several more times, it seemed like a moot point. [dunno]
eta: And yes, this will be for an AR. Mostly plinking rounds, but when I trim them, I'll be sorting out the nicer brass for future precision loads.

I plan on loading most of my brass at one time or another for plinking ammo.
I also set aside the nicer brass for precision rounds that receive a lot more care.

I run mine 1.740 for LC. When i get mixed brass it runs 1.740-.745. Even LC wanders, with an average of 1.745 across the spectrum.

Perhaps. But then again, I get my weather forecast from interpreting weather patterns directly from radar, satellite and other images. Basically the same views of the sky that the forecasters look at. It must have been a fast moving storm because it there weren't any signs of a developing storm when I checked yesterday afternoon.

It started snowing here a few hours ago. By the time we got back to the house the temp had dropped below freezing and the roads were slick as hell. Tomorrow might be a good day to sit on the roof with some coffee and watch idiots slide into each other.

With the Wind NoCo roads are shitty. The winds coming from the NE, every road where there's open space is iced over.

You guys need to be extra alert. Smooth and dry then FUKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. I don't understand why people insist hitting their brakes, when all that needs to be done is GET OFF THE GAS, use the gear selector and let the rpms do your braking / deceleration.

I am probably one of the worst at obeying the rules of the road, but am very conscious of road conditions and not over driving the conditions.
The ride in this morning I76 was a disaster. Wrecks and traffic jams every couple miles. I saw 3 of the wrecks happen and had to avoid spinning cars twice. In all three instances the maroon was driving too fast for conditions and reacted wrong when spin started. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Supposedly, its 45*F outside here, but I haven't had my coffee yet to wake up enough and venture outside without the fear of not being awake enough to find the door to get back in.
Apparently, my wife used my manual burr coffee grinder to grind up some spices (smells like cloves) a while back and never told me or cleaned it. When I ran out of pre-ground coffee this morning, twas a christmas gift, I grabbed a bag o beans and went to grinding. Poured those in the filter and it looked funny, then I looked in the coffee grinder cup and noticed there was different colored stuff stuck behind. Now I'm soaking it because I can't reach the bottom of the grinder cup with a sponge. [facepalm]

Well, initial impressions of Worlds Finest Trimmer .223 Rem
1) You don't need a 1/2" drill for the .223. It has a 5/16" End Mill as the cutting tool, so a 3/8" works just fine.
2) Holding the drill and the brass is not the best way to do this. Need to use a vice to hold the drill, turn it on and then you can run your brass.
3) Setting it up to cut 1.745" is a PITA. I used a piece of brass that was 1.745", followed the directions to set it up. Grabbed a piece of brass that was 1.762", trimmed it, marked the rim with a sharpie to see if it was trimming any further, trimmed it and only sharpie on half of the rim came off, so I trimmed it again and spun the case, same thing. Okay, that piece of brass is at 1.745". It measured 1.755". Not even CLOSE to 1.745". There is definitely a trick to setting it up or something, because that piece of brass would never trim below 1.755" But, I don't have the time now to figure out a better way of setting it up, so, this is all the review you're getting for the moment HB.
