We enjoyed dinner at the Jamestown Mercantile this evening. http://www.jamestownmercantile.com/ Home cooking food wise but a nice break from the routine, we didn't have to cook. For several years The Merc has hosted an impressive array of musical performers like I've never seen since the old Tulagi's. We didn't stay for this evening's performance because we get up early but weekend outings are always possible. Mountain people are different from urbanoids in indescribable ways.
One of the best bar bands I've ever heard was at the bar in Guffey, CO during muzzleloader this September. I wanted to request some Concrete Blonde because the lady sounded just like her, but we left before I could ask.

They had two, but The Bull Moose closed. The remaining bar was bought by a new owner. It is busy when it's open. Decent food too.

Good bear hunting in Guffy area. Is the museum still there?
You said that before. I've still yet to see a bear in real life. When you posted that earlier this year, there was a bear messing with the trash cans of the cabin next to ours the bought you posted.
I don't know about the museum.

I think the museum is a private collection, we got to see it by accident. Mostly restored wagons, buggy's, carriages and tractors. Best example of a Senator Buggy and 1880's Hearse I have ever seen.
There's an awesome western museum just east of Montrose on HWY 50 if anyone gets out this way. They've even put out a lot of the equipment behind several westerns - like, IIRC, Crazy 8.
Random thought:
Imagine if there were "Depressed pride" parades. (That'd be some amusing $%$$ to watch)
And flags (flat, gray, faded).
Got another few.

I've been spoiled just getting onto roof for inspections. That way, you can just pick the best place to put a ladder and go up. With this, you have to put your ladder every six feet, regardless of what the ground is doing. So enjoy this compilation of OSHA violations.

Thanks but I'll be alright. Actually I had a 24' ladder with leveling legs, but I sold it to my cousin. I bet I can just borrow it again. That's a great idea that I should have thought of. Thanks!
Did they take photos? That's a good indicator that it is really big. Hope it recovers well for you.

The swelling has reduced significantly in the past week. Things are looking up.
Irving, you can have all of my roof work. I'm not a fan and don't know how you do it. Stay safe.
I meant taking photos like with their cell phone, and parading all the interns in to see your knee. Thanks for the picture though.
What kind of roof work do you need to do?
Fortunately, no roof work needed. We're not going to hang lights on the house.
Oh good. I'm kind of over hanging lights, but will stick to it for the next few weeks because it won't last that much longer.

Got that bike running. Pretty fucking happy camper at the moment.
I'm sure it could use some going through, so I have no idea what the actual ride quality is. I guess I'll pony up for a battery, but $85 seems damn expensive for such a tiny battery. I need to talk to Grant about making a super capacitor pack instead.

If you're buying a battery, invest in a Battery Tender. Hate to see that $85 crap out by Feb.
http://products.batterytender.com/Chargers/
I have a tender. I can get the battery on Amazon for $35, but with no acid. Is it cheap enough/easy enough to just fill the battery myself? If I'm filling the battery, can I just refill the current battery? I assume there is some kind of consumable that was used up.

I have one of these. It?s a great trail bike with a super low first gear and it?s definitely NOT a motocross bike that a lot of guys are using for trails. I hear a lot of seasoned trail riders saying they regret selling their TTR?s.
Rode around my neighborhood for about 30 minutes today. First great definitely seems very short. I was pretty well behaved while in the neighborhood, but did take it out on Thornton Pkwy for a few blocks. I'd really like to actually get it on a trail as that had got to be a lot more fun than flat streets.
The suspension is definitely soft. I think I'd lose a drag race to my minivan.

You done good with the TTR, will make a good family bike.
Agreed. I need to see if my daughter would have the confidence to ride it.
It does have a soft suspension and that’s what makes it so user friendly. It’s wont beat you up like the motocross bikes will. It’ll be a great camp site bike or something to get your kids on for the first time.
Yeah that's what I'm hoping. I really want to hit some dirt, but my experience is very shallow. I'm thinking of taking it up to tool around at my place up in Pawnee, but I think that will get boring pretty quick. What about something like Fall River Reservoir, or King's Peak?
Any time in the seat is a good time, even if you’re just putting around your property. I’ve never been to those places you cite, but maybe TFOGGER will have some ideas.
King's Peak goes from Nederland to Alice by Saint Mary's Glacier. Fall River Reservoir (and Chinn's Lake) are down below Alice off the Fall River Reservoir exit on I-70, which is the first exit West of Idaho Springs. So very close.

Being your first one. I suggest you start off slower, get a feel for the bikes performance & limitations. It's easier to find out up in pawnee, than St. Mary's Glacier.
I should probably stop getting ahead of myself and educate myself on helmets.

And riding gear in general. Also a way to repair a flat tire in the middle of nowhere.
That bike looked like it had been parked for a while. If it were me, I'd be putting some time on it to make sure it'll be good to go into the middle of nowhere and get you back again.
That's why Pawnee is a good idea. If it shuts down, I can just drive over to where it stopped and pick it up. Meanwhile I can run it through the paces with confidence.

Items to replace before going out, anywhere. Throttle, clutch and brake cables, tires & tubes. . As long as it's been sitting that clutch or throttle cable will take a dump, somewhere between here and 1/2 way to screw pushing this anymore.
My wife had a TTR225. The thing I mostly didn?t like was the lack of a kick starter. I searched high and low and nobody made a kit or conversion that I could find.
She rode it while she was learning and then it got sold in the big dirt bike purge of 2004.
I was reading reviews of other sizes of TTRs and it sounds like different models came with kick starters. That electric start seems to be a pretty common complaint.
Yeah. I think the 250 was kick and electric but it was a bit tall for my wife.

Amex lady tried to tell me 11-30 before I got the replacement and I tore her a new one so it will be here Monday. I pushed for overnight Saturday but she wouldn't budge. FFS, I used to work on the systems that manage the card imprints and know where it's coming from. I've literally been in the same (secure) room where they imprint them upgrading one of the remote systems. That said, it would not get in the cycle to imprint tonight...

For the fun of it. We'd have comps to see how many could hit steel @ 100 with their hand gun. Not everything needs to be competitive.

As to C.Norris, I actually understand pretty well. After the first common I ever did, I thought I'd never just go out and shoot in a field ever again. But after having gone out a few times recently, I forget how much fun it can be, especially when applying all the skills you learned in competition to just having fun. As Kazoo mentioned, one time I took a few shots from my pistol at a steel plate set at 100 yards with zero expectations. I couldn't believe how many times I actually hit it.

I like that Wrangler.
Rode bike again today. Rode to a field to mess around, but it was super muddy so I just took a pass through and back and went home. Every time I pull into the driveway and come to a complete stop with my hand on the clutch, the bike dies. Never while I'm out riding though. Super weird. This time it wouldn't even try to start up again. Wonder if I blew a fuse somewhere.
Now I'm interested in going through that two-stroke to see what it'll take to get that running again.

Could also be the ignition coil starting to go bad. They have bizarre symptoms at times; likely to get progressively worse if so. Honestly pretty cheap, I'd just buy a coil, spark plug, and coil wire if not already included.
Also could be a rub through on a wire, esp in places like around the tank, or where it bends around any members. That'll only short in special circumstances when it first develops. Trace your "spark" wire everywhere. Then trace the others, since a short-to-ground can draw available current away from the ignition.
Or if your driveway angle is unusual and the circumstances of you coming to a stop are otherwise unique on each ride, could be simple carb adjustment.
Nothing weird with driveway. I thought I might have fried the battery since I was using one that wasn't made for a motorcycle and strapped it to the bike for the ride this time. I don't think that's the problem though. It's probably just a connection issue. I've got a real battery (and helmet) coming in the mail soon, so I'll be able to trouble shoot after the holiday if I need to.
I'd really like to get this riding mower up and running so I can sell it and get it out of my garage.
Also, I'm coming into a microwave and electric washer and dryer tomorrow. I have zero room for them and need them out of my garage asap. My brother is getting all new appliances and his old stuff works just fine. I'll have an ad up on here probably by tomorrow.

As long as it fits properly, Bell is(or used to be) good helmet.
For boots, maybe check out a Big 5. They have very comfortable "combat style" boots I picked up for about $20-$29 passing through GJ. Feels just like the 5-11 ones I have, but 1/4 of the cost, so I use them for working around the house / riding.
Also the fuel issue... I don't know your bikes history or even what it is (don't follow all posts) but that is very correct, especially if there's a lot of air space in there. E.g. a totally full tank isn't that bad, but a partially full metal tank will be a rust BBQ in no time. If your tank cap is metal with a latch, it's a good indication of how f'd the tank is just looking at the latch / opening as the condensation will jack them up too.
You can get a phosphate treatment online for about $70-$90 if the bike is worth it, that makes the tank corrosion proof. I did mine, first put a huge cork in the tank (hobby lobby) with an annode/cathode setup (one wire through the cork into fluid) hooked into a 1000 watt 24V power supply I had, pulled a ton of the rust out. Then phosphate treated. Also check your "fuel filters" which are often on top of the petcock intakes and crap to begin with, but they can rust through on some models too. You can get a sintered brass filter on Amazon to use as a fuel filter and splice in which I highly recommend for a lot of small to medium dirtbike/enduros. Just read reviews to find one that people use on motorcycles.
Saves a lot of time cleaning carbs all the time ;)
Bike in question is newer with a plastic tank that was dry. However, the older bike still has fuel in a metal tank, so that will likely need all of those tips.

How do you coat a tank on the inside?
You just pour the stuff in and swirl it around.
Obviously having the tank off the bike makes it way easier. Unless you?re just a beast of a man.

How do you coat a tank on the inside? There are products available to coat/seal steel tanks. Plastic tanks typically only need careful cleaning.
Remove tank, mask/plug as product directs, pour in, rotate(by hand or chucked into lathe) to coat interior, pour off excess finish as directed.
Been many years since I have had to do one but had good luck with it back then.
Re: How
#1: Order phosphate coating
#2: If tank needs cleaning, use electrolysis (various guides online). Make a "cork" that fits your tank-port. There's some huge ones at hobby lobby around decorative bottles that can be modified easy. You need a DC power supply of some kind to do electrolysis.
#3: Follow directions on phosphate cleaning to a T, including cleaning stage(s).
#4: Do the final phosphate cleaning and drain the tank
#5: Let it sit as per directions
#6: Done
It's not a coating so much as a chemical reaction - kind of like certain metal products protect against rust by.... developing a thin film of corrosion. You're doing a thin phosphate corrosion in essence, and it keeps your tank rust free from there.
You just pour the stuff in and swirl it around.
Obviously having the tank off the bike makes it way easier. Unless you?re just a beast of a man.
It's only a 180lbs, but I'd rather just take the tank off. [emoji1]

Technically, Ford is suspending/cancelling production of all car models (excluding the Mustang) to focus on SUV’s and Truck sales. Chevy is following the same path. They could’ve made and electric line of vehicles with its own Brand name and I’d be fine with that. Mustang is iconic and represents automotive history to many.

Woke up trying to figure out why it sounded like the heats been running, nonstop.
Then I realized it's raining that hard and not the blower running, this whole time.

Of course a few degrees colder and we'll have some snow. Which went from the 5k mark, down to 4000' in the forecast.
Have the mud slides begun in California yet?

Had to tie a cinder block to GSD so she don't blow away.

Hopefully enough slough yesterday to keep most snow in place, otherwise am going to have to spend tomorrow digging out again.

It's fortunate that the snow left on the ground has a crust over it. It would be drifting like crazy with this wind if it weren't being held down.

The crust is helping but still drifting. Another six+ hours of this wind is gonna cause pain.
Had to tie a cinder block to GSD so she don't blow away.
Took my GSD out on the golf course last night before the bad weather. He runs "free" with a long lead just in case. He ran around like a puppy on crack.

A puppy on crack...lol. That's what the GF's been doing inside the house with X-mas decorations.
It looks like the North Pole and Santa threw up all over inside the house. Meh, I'm kinda gettin Griswold on the outside myself, just need better weather to keep on truckin.
I think we lost some trees over here as well, Kazoo. The Cedar being one of them, dang it.

When you take the train to Glenwood Springs, expect it to be at least three hours late on the return trip. Why?
If they advertise a schedule I would expect them to be at least close to keeping it.
Apparently because of freight trains. It's been over three hours late for two days in a row. I think it was an hour late leaving Denver as well.
What?s it cost to take the train to Glenwood? Anybody know?
Dunno
The last train to clarksville already left tho
Got hung up on Winter Park for an hour. Add that to the 3.5 hours late when we got on. It's pretty affordable. I'll update you when I can.

Maybe if they kept the trains on time the railroad companies wouldn't need govt support.

Always been a winter guy but...
Supposed to pick up in Glenwood at 12:05pm and be in Denver around 6:30. We're expected at 11:30pm.
I don't actually care cause it's vacation, but most be frustrating for people who aren't. Also, on the train so long and getting into town after places close, so people are eating at the snack car. Just spent $58 on what would have cost my e about $20 at a gas station.

Commentary by other passengers? Are delays expected, kinda normal?
First time on a train, so don't know what's normal. No one is really saying anything. Conductors aren't really addressing it. Not sure what they'd say. I'm under the impression they can't really control much.
Train travel is weird because the time it takes from Nederland to Winter Park is way short compared to a car. On the other hand, we still have over an hour of estimated travel time to a union station, but are basically in Arvada.
