We had a new client that sounded hot on the phone. My partner and I were contemplating/arguing about said potential hotness on the phone while I was driving out for a meet. The plan was to simply text him at a convenient time after my arrival with a beer scale number.

Class started today. Probably going to be the coolest class ever.
We'll be doing CNC Machining, casting/forging, plastic thermoforming, designing, manual lathe/mill and a few other things I can't remember. Also, the final project is to design/machine/assemble a slot car race car for which part of our final grade depends on how it does in a round robin style race. Pretty cool, eh?!

Yup, didn't work. Well, it did, but I stripped out the head of a bolt because my hex keys were cheap. Also, my machining wasn't the greatest, so a few of my holes didn't line up so I couldn't use them.
I'm sure it'd be fine if my machining skills were up to par and I didn't rely on c-clamps. I hadn't done any machining in over a year, and even before that, I wasn't the best machinist.

For stopping traffic in every direction from the street you may or may not have lit it off near. I understand one was touched off in this part of town some time back, maybe 10 years ago, more or less. A solid wall of green maintained it's presence for 8 min, before a northerly breeze started to disperse it. The ground display of sparklers and lady fingers gave the whole scene a surreal look. Or so i heard from the people who may or may not have been present, allegedly.

I know in some states, there is a limit to the brightness or the number of headlights you can have on at a given time while on public roads.
Oh well. I need to go find some mud next weekend and see what this thing is capable of. It was kind of hard to do any real off roading with a stock pickup truck.

Hey HB, if I remember correctly in CO, it is two PAIRS of lights on at one time AND the lights have to be BELOW a height of 54" (or something similar to that). So that makes roof mounted lights illegal on road.
That's not to say that when I had my 4x 150w lights on the roof of my xterra that I didn't turn them on every now and then... [Tooth]
Also, please for the love of all things, tell me you got it in a manual.

Yep, I wheel my stock truck pretty frequently.
Right, but a 106" vs a 143" wheelbase, along with an additional inch and half of ground clearance sure makes a big difference for getting into and out of those tight spots. Also, having an approach angle of 33* and a departure angle of 30* means less bottoming out and dragging ass over obstacles while maneuvering.
Im not saying you can't go wheeling in a stock truck (I did all the time) but now my vehicle should be capable of even more fun, so I want to go see what it can do.

in any case, I would have loved to get a manual, but because this is my daily driver and I use it to cart the kid around everywhere, I opted for the convenience of the auto. You mean like a Mini Cooper S? Go drive one of those and a Porsche will seem slow. I know, I used to drive my dad's 1999 996 quite frequently and I love the Mini more! And no, its not just because I can afford to drive a Mini and not the Porsche [LOL]

Sounds like an awesome ride! Right now, my Xterra is going to stay stock because we have bills to pay, but I have had my eyes on those Shrockworks sliders. I'm also planning on adding a cold air intake and eventually putting a real bumper on it. I saw one the other day by Hefty Fabworks or something like that... It looked pretty awesome.
BuffCyclist
01-17-2014, 09:37
All I can say is Shrock all the way! I got out of wheeling a while back so I didn't add the Shrock bumpers, not to mention it would have added about 250-300lbs to the truck and reduced the fuel efficiency which is already low.
The Shrock slides also help with side impact collisions. Since they bolt directly to the frame, they reinforce the frame and act somewhat as a crumple zone or something. Also, since they stick out wider than the vehicle body, they are an anti-door ding. Well, they'll ding doors, but only of people who open THEIR doors into your truck. LOL

Well, I haven't heard of Hefty... Then again, I got out of the offroading community when I moved to NM in 2010. And even before then, I wasn't all that active for the past few years. I know that the quality of Shrock is amazing. And fyi, I bought my sliders as bare steel and primed/painted them with a truck bed liner. I've touched them up once, but the color I bought was the same grey as the plastic on the truck, so it looks extra nice.
Also forgot to mention I've got 33x10.5's on my offbrand D-Ring steel 15" wheels. They stick to anything and everything.

Hm, no idea. I know that mine mount in 3 spots to the frame and have only 1 tube support in the middle. My guess is the hefty is newer and copied Shrock's design, because I know Shrock has been around since at least 2004 and I've never heard of Hefty. At the time, the only people making parts for the X was Shrockworks, Calmini and 4x4parts (but that was suspension parts only).

BuffCyclist

I work 4 night shifts, twice per month.
Now that I'm transitioning to the new position, I'm working 6 nights this month, 4 nights next month. So my remaining 6 nights are 2-night shifts. Next one is next weekend.
When I'm home, I'm on a day schedule.

And that means I'm working about 40 hours in January on the new project, which means drafting at home whenever I feel like it. Waiting on a few parts from my chief engineer though so I can get to drafting what he wants me to start on first.

I've been pretty freaking productive this morning.
Resized my Mac OSX partition, added space to my bootcamp partition (new drafting software took up too much space, leaving me with 1gb free = no virtual ram)
3 loads of laundry - all folded and put away
Picked up my mess from my backpack
Put away yesterdays Sams club purchases in our home store shelves
Ate a double egg sandwich, it was delicious
On my second cup of coffee
Debating taking the trash out, but its still kind of cold so I'll probably wait until later
Hmmm... What else? Oh yea, put away a dishwasher load of dishes.

Which speaking of, people on ebay are pretty ignorant when it comes to computers. I've had all 4 people who emailed me about the laptop ask what OS it came with. When I told them there wasn't an OS installed because there was no HDD, they all replied that they thought the OS was installed on the RAM/Memory. [facepalm]
I replied to each, explaining what is included and what they must do. Laptop didn't come with windows installation disc, so they'll have to contact microsoft and request an installation disc/files after they give the license from the sticker on bottom. Wonder how many got clueless.
I planned on going to the range today, but I was overwhelmed by the large amounts of Fukitol I took when I woke up.

Gotcha. The problem with working at home and/or working shift work a few times a month, is that if I don't have anywhere to go, I typically don't get fully dressed (shorts and a grungy shirt), which makes it extremely difficult to convince me to go run an errand. Because that would require me to get dressed, get shoes on, and go outside [LOL]

Here come the work at home excuses.
Because I often had/have to work late into the night, and this has been going on for many years, I'm NOT a morning person. I often get wrapped up in work early before or during my first cup of coffee, before I've showered, and then it's the afternoon and the pot is empty before I realize what a slug I've been. I generally don't step foot outside without showering, so the errands get put off. A lot.

Well, I just got some clothes on and went outside to separate the shavings from my 1 cord of firewood that was delivered with about 150 gallons of shavings/chippings. Wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but it was on gravel so separating out the rocks was difficult.
But because I'm a smartypants, I took advantage of the fact that wood floats and rocks sink (just like guns!), filled a huge plastic container with water and dumped each shovel full in, then strained out the floaters. Took me about an hour and a half, but it was much easier than hand picking the rocks out!
Pics? Maybe buy a big ass piece of plywood?

I can't do that when this was a firewood delivery.
Bought 1 cord from a local, already split, for $65. He showed up with a dump trailer. Asked me where I wanted it, I said concrete (driveway goes up side of house as an RV pad but without the RV). He backed up too far and dumped it on the rocks before I could tell him he went too far.
He knocked off $5 and went on his merry way, I got to clean up the mess after stacking the wood. Didn't know there would be THAT many chips/shavings in the load. And for the record, most locals charge $100-$150/cord delivered un-split, so I got a GREAT deal even with the cleanup.
I'd do it myself (buy 4 cords for $20 from forest service and cut them myself), but no access to a trailer. Its also a huge convenience thing.
