yeah i can think of a bunch of better less populated spots but that shooting ban is still in effect .
if you have 4x4 then south site is great , but if your stuck near the front then it kinda sucks .

just checked the county Sherrif's site, looks like I'm g2g, they lifted the ban all together. Looks like I'll be going out sooner than I thought

How far back do you go at the South Site? Do you need a lifted jeep or will any 4x4 work? I have an old stock silverado, but I've only gone back to the part where the road goes up the hillside and then straight west for about 1/8th of a mile... And I think i scraped bottom a few times just getting there [Tooth]

Ohhhhhh Lucky!!!! I think an AK, hell even a BB gun in San Diego would probably bring in the swat teams... I had to leave my guns in trusted hands here in CO when I moved to California for my job. When I got back, I spent 10 hours at the South Site. I must have put 1000+ rounds down range in 5 different calibers that day! [Tooth]

I'm assuming you guys are talking AKs? Shooting steel cased out of an AR worries me.. I've only heard bad things about it putting undue stress on your chamber and boltface. I've done about 500rds of steel cased tula ammo in my glock (along with 3000 rds of brass), but I could put 9mm dirt clods in my glock and it wouldn't have an issue.

Good o'l steel cases... they're safe with many firearms.. just can't mix and match between brass through the day... you'll almost guaranteed to get a fail to eject... I wouldn't know with an AK though... all I shoot through that is steel

We all know steel ammo shoots filthy... the chamber gets hella dirty shooting steel cases, and when you start loading brass cased rounds the brass expands a lot more and gets stuck in the chamber...

if your gonna switch things around... shoot the brass first and shoot the steel last... I can't really say anything about wear and tear on the chamber and bolt.... but I think your extractor will feel it the worst [Coffee]
I remember when i tried doing all the wrong things (brass and then steel and then brass and then steel) with my old AR.. the brass and steel cases were being torn apart... literally..

Ooohhh.. do I believe you....
... I've treated my Krink really bad and found out how reliable the "Lil b*tch" can be... I ran the thing dry and not even clean it very well (sprayed windex and wiped parts off) after shooting over 2K rounds through it and it finally failed on me *wouldn't fully cycle through* (it also has to do with the shorter gas system)... gave it a pretty good detailed clean and it runs great again... I love it [Tooth]

Well, not that we're measuring dicks or anything, but I've shot about 1000 rds through my AR without any bit of cleaning and it still operates fine. Seems to be working just fine. I haven't cleaned my glock in almost 2 years and 3000 rds, and it is basically LNIB.
I guess I think cleaning is overrated... am I nuts?

When I got my Mark23 ... It damn near went over 2000 rounds without a proper cleaning, but I realized that it was a good one and a keeper... I gave it a detailed clean and from time to time I try to maintain it better.
As for the AR.. you got yourself a keeper it sounds like. [Beer]
I didn't have such luck with AR's[Bang]

Awesome. I was beginning to worry that I am damaging my most treasured possessions! After 1000 rounds through the AR, it still cycles perfectly fine and is still shooting about 1.8 MOA (the best i've ever shot it is 1.5 MOA). I'm getting a bit of crap building up just outside the chamber, but it doesn't affect the function of the gun at all. I think the last time I cleaned it was in September, so it's probably about time...

Cleaning guns...depends on the ammo. I have put 1000k through my 1911, zero issues with Fiocchi. About 500 with dirty and several malfunctions.
