Okay.

ETA: That area ain't that bad. I grew up where Youngfield meets Colfax (now), lived down the block from you for a year, and delivered pizza in that neighborhood for a year. Of all the times we "cruised" Colfax back in high school, we never got into trouble or saw anything worth seeing. It wasn't until I was an adult delivering pizza that I saw my first hooker, naked lady at a motel, and handed a wet handful of cash. All in the same week, if not night.

Wow, missing all the action here. Oh well have to be in two places tomorrow for propane deliveries. That's what happens when you live in nowheresville. Instead of a place where everyone relies, nay depends, on a central delivery system for heat.

Then some trigger time.

Speaking of propane, this trailer is a bit of a pain in the ass so far. Water heater shuts off and I don't know why. Last night apparently the furnace shut off. The thing is brand new. Also the instructions are garbage and I wasn't present for the walk through. May have to skip out on lunch if that heater isn't back on yet.

Check thermocoupler, then what the limit switch ?(if any) is set for . There could be as CN mentioned some blockage. Or line and outlet to trailer is not the right amperage, tripping breakers. It's hooked up to a 25-30A waterproof outlet, yes?

Irving
01-10-2019, 09:14
Yes on outlet. I was reading the manual for the water heater last night and was looking at the limit part. Shuts off at 180 degrees. I was wondering it that could be playing a part in this. I'm going to post a picture and hopefully you guys/gals and brutal can help me identify something.

What does the FLT light in the upper left corner indicate on this panel?

When the water heater was off, that light was on. I turned the DSI heater switch off, then on again, and a minute or so later the water heater kicked back on. I realized that when the water heater was off, the FLT light was illuminated, but once it turned back on, that light was off.

You'd think I could just look through all the documentation of this trailer and find some directions that tell me what all this stuff is, but I've been unable to find anything like that for the trailer. Very frustrating.

Drop water temp down 20-30 deg

Curious. Some reason the dealer isn't on the phone with you?

Or he's not calling the mfg of said trailer, on their 800 #

The other question is Do you have the switch for running on battery off? Power is either on battery (12v) or 120V ac ?

Newer furnaces may go into “lock-out” if a potential safety problem is detected. Lock-out simplymeans that the Control and/or ignition circuits shut down and do not allow furnace operation.Lock-out can be reset by turning the thermostat switch off and changing the Set Temperature to alow enough value so there is no demand for heat and waiting 10-15 seconds. Then turn thethermostat on and set the temperature to the desired level and the furnace should attempt to startagain.

Answer to my question and makes sense.

It will only come on when it needs to light the propane flame for the water heater. You will see it come on when you first flip the switch for the water heater and it will stay on until the heater fires. Sometimes it will give you the "fault" light if it does not fire right away but it will try again until it lights. If it gives you a solid fault light for a long period of time, check your propane to be sure it is on and not empty.

Basically it is telling you that the electronic spark is firing to light the propane.

I should add that this is something different from the 120 V electric heater switch. It only relates to the propane fired heat.

I'll add turning down the water heater to my list of questions for the dealer.

I got tons of exciting work for once and I hit the dreaded using or loose it vacay time thing due to laws and company regs.
Normally this would be good, but alas none of my project parts are here so this will be less productive.

The FLT light is associated with the water heater burner ignition. You either have low propane or had air in the lines, which is most likely the cause considering you had a furnace problem at the same time.

Updated situation is out of propane. Yesterday the tanks were showing green, now they show red. I'm working on educating myself to prevent further issues. The plan so far is to go through the dealer orientation that I was not originally a part of, and to live in the trailer myself for a few days to make sure I can run the damn thing myself.

Also, I can still make it to lunch and am packing up to leave now.

Quick reply as I'm heading out the door...

If you're running propane to heat water and the furnace, it'll go very quick. Two 20lb bottles don't last long.

Can't say for this model, but the water heater will often have both elec (120V) and gas (needs 12V to fire). If there's not an elec switch on the inside, there's likely one on the outside under the cover. If you can, only use gas for recovery and quicker heating, then use the elec if it has that.

The propane furnace needs 12V to fire and run the blower. All that either comes off the battery, or battery via converter if plugged into shore power.

You can supplement the gas furnace with a (safe) space heater, I prefer the oil filled electric, but keep in mind that the furnace is often vented to the underbelly to keep the water from freezing if it's an all-season rig, so you must accommodate.

permanent external water connections need heat tape.

gotta run

Shit...I thought that was gonna happen tomorrow....Friday.

Eh, feck….next time.

I had some time today to start drawing out electrical wiring diagrams for everything I've done. The first three were just scribbles getting orientated, blew the first serious try, and got it pretty good on the last one. This is for me as I get older (CRS dynamic)...and for the kid when he gets it after I shit the bed. Just good planning I figure.

I got all the stuff for a nice 7 pin trailer set up with incorporated flat four, and then struggled a little bit with how/where I was gonna mount it. Threw some turds on the wall to see which one stuck good, and went with that one. Most betterest to tie into the bed part of the taillight circuits and have only one connection point to the chassis with one to one connections. All the splitting will happen in the bed back with a busbar sealed up really good under the face plate. It was tempting to flush mount into the hitch, but that isn't a good idea...would have looked super clean though. It still will for the most part though.

No, too busy dicking around with the truck. Oil filter that fits, is seeping some oil, not acceptable. So going to change it out tomorrow in the a.m.
Found a winnebagel for $800 that runs. Thinking of turning it to a guest house. OR reloading room on rimzzzzzzz

Mine wasn?t quite as nice, but the same idea. It had no problems, but something in the back of my mind kept telling me it was time to sell, so I did. Not sure I should?ve listened to me.

I know that on the internet your supposed to act like a perfect bad ass that never makes mistakes, but here is what I did. I spent half my night pushing up my tools to work on my wife's rental and stuff to stay at this trailer for the next few days to learn it and make sure everything is in proper order. I drive about 115 miles one way, and as I got to about two miles from the exit and started thinking about what I'm going to do when I get there, I realize I don't have the keys.

Nothing like changing out propane tanks and unfreezing things at 1:30 in the morning.

You definitely need to attend one of those Know your RV seminars. It's like you've been handed the keys to a friends place for vacation. Yet there's been no interaction between the 2 of you, for how to get things up and running.

Hey the thermostat's not working, oh yeah i forgot to tell you. We don't fill the propane tank till march. You'll have to cut some wood, if there's none outside already split, for heat.

This is my concern, as when we got everything set up initially and started turning everything on, the water was frozen. So I know that the water heater got turned on before we got any water into the system. I bet it could have been running an hour before we got the water figured out and the tech guy says it only takes about 15 minutes. I can replace it on my own fortunately. Did I miss a story?
When and how did you acquire your trailer?
Is it new, since it has warranty?
Any pictures?
You really got my attention.
I bought a 30' Camper Trailer for my land down on the Arkansas River near Salida. Enjoyed the heck out of it for years. Had all the usual maintenance problems. Sealed the roof down to securing the bottom from mice, with all in-between. Sold it with the land. The new owner put it along Highway 50 with a "For Sale" sign and sold it within a few days. He screwed up the Title, so I had to get a duplicate, sign it, and send it to the new owner. I included my winterization notes, diagrams, and history. The new owner was very pleased and sent me a "Thank you" check that bought a nice dinner out.

The little things can always be easier to just buy a part and replace yourself.

Unless you make an appointment and get some assurance they'll actually work on it then, the dealers are generally so backed up they'll sit on it for weeks. Having to get approval and order parts from the maker also adds to delays.

Long ass day. Got the bed back off around noon and spent about 7 hours getting all the wiring for taillights cleaned up (shoddy job from builder) and wiring in the 7 pin/ flat 4, used a bus bar to keep everything clean and organized, and had to modify the rear drop cover plate for the three holes I had to drill through it for the tow, hitch lights, and the actual chassis to taillight plug. Everything has plug connectors in case I ever have to remove the bed in the future. It takes a lot of time to plan and get lengths correct, heat shrink butt connectors on everything, doing good splices, and then finally sealing up the cover plate.

Have to go back tomorrow to wire up the deck lights and get the upper light feeds ran so I can get the bed off the rack and back on the truck before the new week begins. I figure about three more hours and I can bolt it back down again.

I discovered a mistake today that was totally on me. Don't like to admit it, but I was in such a hurry to get the wheels bolted up a month back or so....I managed to not tighten the nuts on the left front wheel. Since this isn't road worthy yet, I only put four on each wheel and I plan to get new lug nuts anyway. The wheel isn't trashed, but it's definitely the spare tire now, it hogged out the holes a little and gouged up the inside lip above the bead... the studs were unaffected but needed chased.

I feel pretty shitty about it. It's human nature to flame up folks for doing stupid stuff, ….it's my turn in the barrel on that deal. Pay attention, dumbass.

For not much more money you can pick up an Outdoor Edge swing blade with replaceable scalpel blades. The skinning blade opens everything up like a zipper.I like the original. Picked up a back up yesterday at Murdoch's in Ft Morgan.

Been using original about 3yrs. Holds edge very well IMO. Mrs bo calls it the zipper knife. She was with me first time I opened up an antelope with it. Worked as advertised.

Field dressed, skinned, quartered and deboned with same knife.

Home Depot does.

Only chance is to be there within a day or so restock and "try" to get parts you need. Had to do it several times with those panels to get enough to do a closet.

Exact reason local shop can get 2-3 times the price with 2 week lead time. Those things would be perfect if Tim K cut and drilled them on his CNC and ran them thru his edgebander.

I'm not only sore in my muscles from swinging my arms around for hours at a time, but my feet hurt from standing on my hard floor and my wrist is actually strained. On top of all that, I feel a little mentally fried as well. Have to play in small doses.

I'll never have a taillight problem though. Jesus everything fought me today, didn't matter what it was. I didn't even tighten the bed bolts cause I have a feeling it'll be coming off one more time yet for the overhead lights and a few other potential reasons.

I did get conformation last week that the single wheel disc brake diff sitting on stands next door IS mine to do what I want with. That's cool, so that project is up and coming. It's wider than the one in the truck now, so I might be able to mount the shocks outside of the leaves and that would be cool.
