Not sure if insult or strategic compliment... lol
Yeah, I think it did help, as it showed them I am in demand. The manager said that after the video conf. interview w/ him , the VP, and the Director, they were all so impressed that they didn't want to lose me to another company. Hence, the strong offer.
Still haven't heard back from Company 1.

This morning is the annual viewing of "The Sandlot".
What a weekend. My kid was a passenger in a car wreck a few night ago. Friends newer mustang totaled, but all kids and other driver ok. 287 and 52 strikes again, CDOT this one is on you. That intersection always leads to accidents, and everyone I speak to avoids it. Of course other driver did not have a licence. This is the 5th incident with illegals in 5 years for me and my friends, fukin build a wall already.
Got to give it to new cars, the front was smashed solid and the cabin was intact, side air bag deployed and only a scratch on my kid, but not even a real bruise anywhere on the arm. Driver of the car my kid was in got a few arm scratches, the other passenger was scratch free.

Glad everyone is OK.
Why so many wrecks there? I see there was a fatality June 26 when a street sweeper ran a red light.
I thought they were giving free licenses and a right to vote to all illegals in CO?
Fuck ya, build that damn wall. Fix the asylum program and hang every douche that exploits children not their own to get here. I don't care if we need to put our own troops at the US and Mexico's southern borders.
287 and 52 is basically two freeways with an intersection. They pull the cute stunt of limiting speed to 55 so you can have a cross turn lane. Add to that the fact that 52 always gets priority and people speed like a mother through 52 while on 287 so they don't have to wait. (52 has 5-10 cars waiting at most and the light turns green for them, 287 has a 1/4 mile backup and only gets retimed when people complain.) Add to that all the effing appartments added constantly to Longmont and you end up with humongous volume of cars.
CDOT needs to extend the turn lanes on 287 by 300% and make the turns on green arrow only, with a proper time for N/S traffic to pass through.
Rant mode off.

When I was doing field service, I used to run the whole corridor from Parker to Cheyenne and spent a lot of time up and down the area west of I-25 Denver to Loveland, but it's been forever since I've run up there, and never during rush hour.
Sounds more like an overpass is now needed.

I've watched videos, but I think I'd like someone to walk me through how to efficiently field dress small game.
I think it'd be a useful skill to have practiced if anyone is willing to tutor.
Won?t have to field dress them if you just fling them off your property.

Sorry. Wasn?t making light of your request but I haven?t dressed a squirrel in probably twenty years or more. I don?t remember them being much different than a rabbit so just use whatever technique you prefer for rabbits.
Also, stick your request in the general section or maybe the hunting area if you?re really serious.

I dont find the idea of mutilating animals from trial & error appealing. However, I do see benefit in skilled preparation in order to keep the meat. Turns out there is a person who would like to have the squirrels & I'd genuinely prefer they not go to waste.

If it makes you feel any better.
1) The squirrels are already dead and throwing them in the trash is no better/worse/different than "mutilating" them when it comes to the utilization of the meat.
2) Even with expert direction, you'll still feel like there is plenty of improvement to be made the first few times you field dress an animal.
3) You can do it!!!!
Every year when hunting season gets close, I spend a lot of time watching field dressing videos. Then hunting season comes and I don't have a video in the woods. That you can do it on your kitchen counter with a video right in front of you is a tremendous advantage. I've field dressed a coyote, on my own, well enough that I got a good looking full mount of out of her when I was done. If I remember correctly, I also used a pocket knife. That was after only field dressing a deer and maybe two-three elk and this was a completely different animal. Soooooooo
You can do it!!!
Go to Meateater.com and see if they have videos up for small game. I know they have decent tutorials in their small game hunting guide and cook books, which you're welcome to borrow if you like.
I don't really feel like this counts as a tornado, but it was cool and lasted for several minutes. There were actually two (well more like four, but only one larger). The owners of the property were very concerned about me standing on the roof while these were going by and the farmer (who was on top of his combine at the time) said if it got close enough, it'd be strong enough to pull him out and toss him to the ground.

Don?t get too excited. No feet in the picture. Apparently you can get toes in pictures of long guns but can?t make it happen if you post pictures of shoes.

Speaking of flights....one I was on recently, there was some kid seated behind me that was an expert on everything and hadn't shut up since take off. Later, the stewardess started the cart down the aisle, and when she got to me, I motioned her closer...she bent down and asked if I'd like a beverage.
I said yeah,.... do you have a can of STFU in there?
The lady lost it laughing.
Later when closer to arrival, the backwards seated lady and I had an eye contact moment....and I rolled my eyes, and she laughed again. That dude never shut up for the entire hour and a half flight.

It's my security software... I just grabbed a screen image.
What you need is to integrate it with a tripod mounted pellet gun with suppressor and set the ID function to "Wabbits". Call it the Elmer Fffff.
It finds smiles like a cell phone?
I've been hearing a loud bird whistle lately and I couldn't figure out what it was. I thought it was someone's very loud text notification on their cell phone or something. Turns out it is my neighbor's newest security system (I think this is his third or fourth one, and he still has cameras up from more than one company). When the cameras detect motion, it let's out a whistle with the idea of getting whomever is on camera to turn their head to look where the sound came from and get their face on camera. I think it works because the first time I heard it (from two yards away) I definitely stopped what I was doing and looked around. What I was doing, was watering another neighbor's garden in the back yard while they were out of town so I was already in the mind set of being on someone's else property without them being there, so the whistle extra got my attention.

It's the quail, called Gambels Quail for this area. Last week down your road 1 adult was standing in the middle of it. Then from the left side about 10 babies came wandering out crossing to the other side. They were maybe the size of hummingbirds.

I got the bead blaster at work working again, hadn't been used in some time and needed some attention. It's 25 or so years old and the gloves needed resealed cause the rubber cracked at the flange area.
Did get the rotors, calipers and brackets cleaned up for that rear end disc set up. I need to hit amazon and find some high temp caliper paint, or look into getting them powder coated as well.
Happy friday, everyone.

Kids gonna help me get the old diff out and the new housing in and tacked up for the drivetrain shop to get moving on the gear installation and get the rear driveshaft built. Already had a machine shop fab a T-case output flange that would accommodate the larger spicer u-joints that I want to use.

Hummer, what is a bird that is the size of a hawk that is dramatically brown and white? I want to say a brown body with mostly white wings and maybe brown wing tips? Don't hold me to that description as it caught my eye as it flew by. I've never seen anything like it. It reminded me of a piebald elk.

Cooper?s hawk maybe? They are brown and white.
Those are more mixed coloration. I mean like in the white section, there is no brown, and vice versa. When I referenced a piebald elk, this is kind of what was in my head.

I'm afraid there's not nearly enough detail in the description to hazard a guess beyond the suggestion that if it looked like a hawk it probably was. Location and habitat are also clues. Whitewalrus' Cooper's is a possible but their wings are more mottled or spotted with white, not mostly white. Some birds have leucistic plumage characteristics but that's variance well beyond the detail of your description.
I frequently get rare bird ID questions and a picture is worth a thousand words. It often requires lots of pics of various features from different angles for a positive ID because some pictures do lie. Even detailed descriptions by experienced birders can be wrong due to what they thought they saw but didn't really. You have to wade beyond subjectivity.
Today we saw a Loggerhead Shrike and the first migrant Rufous Hummingbird at our Palisade home. Gambel's Quail too, but they're here every day.
I figured it was a long shot. I'm familiar with many of the birds I see in my neighborhood, but this guy was big and weird looking. I wished he stuck around so I could get better pictures. Even if I had a camera in my hand it all happened too fast, but it does make me think of how worthless cell phone are for taking quick pictures on the fly.
Sorry Irving. A very good place to start is with Sibley's: https://www.amazon.com/Sibley-Guide-Birds-2nd/dp/030795790X

While we're talking about birds though, the first time I've ever seen a turkey vulture was last year in Texas. Now I feel like I see them all the time in the mountains here, and even up in Cheyenne (Curt Gowdy National Park). Have they always been up here and I've just never noticed before?
The pigeon is probably a good guess. And Turkey Vultures are common throughout CO from spring through fall. I see them everyday. That the thing about learning the birds you discover, you actually start seeing them. There are lots of realms of awareness. Like bird songs and calls. For most people it's just background noise. For me it's a Kestrel fledgling getting fed, a quail chick that's lost it's family group, or a Ruby-crowned Kinglet mobbing a predator. I don't have to see it, only listen and hear.
I wish I were more familiar with game birds. I might have heard a quail, but I doubt I've ever seen one. I hear about people hunting grouse while they're elk/deer hunting, but I don't think I've ever heard/seen one of those either.
I just recently found out that those large flocks of very large, and very loud (but high in altitude so they are barely audible) birds I see over my land up in Pawnee in the fall are probably Sandhill Cranes.
Once you start finding Dusky Grouse or White-tailed Ptarmigan, watch and listen to their clucks and grousing, the feet as they scratch, their wings as they fly. In the future you will recognize it beyond background noise. I'll typically find a half dozen to thirty or more grouse during elk season. I never hunt them during season as it's a distraction from my primary goal. I used to hunt grouse on pre-season conditioning hikes.

Steven Rinella often describes the call of a Dusky Grouse sounding like a farmer trying to start an old tractor. Pretty sure this would have caught my attention while hunting.

Went up the hill the other night, had some fun.
Didn't lose too much, the entertainment value was an even exchange.
I'm staying in a shitty motel in Colorado Springs. I'm in a garden level room and trying to work with headphones on. I thought I heard something, so went to look out of the window and there was a lady standing there with a bunch of garbage bags. Scared the shit out of me. She saw me and made some motions like, "Oh shit, wrong window, sorry." Then not two minutes later I heard knocking again. I looked at the window again and she was like "Hey, is Carmen there? Is this room XXX?" I said "No Carmen here. This is that room, but I've rented it for the night. I'll be gone tomorrow."
She's lucky she didn't experience any brandishing. Don't tell anyone though, because this hotel/motel chain doesn't allow firearms on the property.
While we're talking about it, the worst thing by far about staying in cheap motels like this (among every other reason) is that half the rooms are occupied by people who live here full time. When I was walking in from the parking lot I noticed a parrot cage in one of the rooms. Nothing I love better while trying to get a decent nights sleep in an unfamiliar, and usually dirty and uncomfortable place, is whole families of kids running up and down the halls and people jamming out like the walls aren't paper thin, or smelling everyone's breakfast and cigarettes 100% of the time.
First world problems for sure, but I've got to bitch somewhere.

Sounds like you are walking barefoot on the floor and shower. A lot of those places are Section 8 units, or the last place people go, before the morgue. .
I feel bad about people trying to raise families living in a damn motel. The rates can't be cheaper than a rental, but credit is probably an issue. Even at half the rate I paid for one night, a month would be $1,600+.
