I was watching it fall, figuring it would land in the snow, tumble around, and maybe pop the batteries out like usually happens when I drop it from normal heights. NOPE. In that mental slow motion, I watched as the camera body slid smoothly by a deck rail, perfectly snapping the lens off clean with the body.
Then I dropped my laser measure in the attic that had 6" batt with blown insulation over the top. Meaning that of course I never heard a thing and was extremely lucky to even find it at all. Then I had to go to my next claim and take all the pictures with my cell phone like some chump.

And that's how my last day of claims went. Lol

This is currently the most scary roof I've been on so far. 10/12 wood shake that was in crappy condition. It doesn't matter how special your shoes are if the shingle breaks off and turns into a skate underneath you. We actually had to tie off on this one to prevent dying.

I would, but I've recently changed my outlook on trucks and would rather buy a Pinz to handle all my off roading/camping/Home Depot run duties, then just daily drive a car. I couldn't realistically justify daily driving a truck, especially with my new job.

Last winter the outer pinion bearing on the front diff went out and I've been too busy and cheap to fix it ... will likely get it up and running in the next month or so but if I don't find myself using it more I think I'll probably sell it (otherwise I'm just paying taxes and insurance for something to sit in front of the house). Since we bought the Honda Element it can do 90% of the "Jeeping" that we'd use the Jeep for only in more comfort.

Just trying to figure out of there is a preference for how to build circuits. Keep it the same as original? Make each room or two a circuit? I've got all weekend to make a plan before I get started.

Remember, all I'm trying to do is make all my outlets be properly grounded and clean up any dangerous stuff I find in the attic. House is full of splices behind drywall and other surprises that come with 50 years of remodels.

Yes, just wire the gfi outlet ahead of all the other outlets in the circuit that you want to have gfci protection.

Sounds like a permit needs to be pulled, besides the wire. If i were you i'd locate a qualified sparky, who knows what the codes are. Then have them wire to code.

I think the previous owners must have updated the electrical at some point. When the inspector tests that the outlets have a ground, they'll say, "Yep, must have."

Not as i remember. Of course you don't get a sign off till completed. When i had some electrical done, i ran the wire, hung boxes, with the my guy doing hookups etc. If you know one, being able to work with them helps defray some of the cost. That's if they're willing to do so.

Here is the box. At some point, a room (and garage) were built onto this house. The original box was in the garage, which turned into a sub-panel or sorts. Most recently, we hired a guy to come out and ground the outlets in the kitchen and close up the sub-panel and move everything to the main panel in the back of the house. That electrician was the guy who was telling me that I could just run a ground wire, and that was where I originally got that idea. That same guy was also willing to let me work with him and was pretty reasonably priced. As you may or may not be able to see, I've got probably 10 unused breakers in that box. I shouldn't be adding anything, just pulling new stuff. When taking the picture I noticed the full cut off romex in the box, and have no idea what that is about. Also, if I remember correctly, code says you're not supposed to have any romex in the box or conduit piping any more right? What you see in the picture is a combination of other people's work over the years.

Irving, your panel is good to go. And you can just run a ground conductor (ground wire) to each outlet and upgrade to 3 prong (grounded) outlets.
But you mentioned splices behind walls, and this is not proper. Pulling in new wiring would be the safest way to go.

Check with your city's permit dept. about a home owner's permit about electrical work and if there is a time limit on completing the work scoped out in your permit application.

Remember, not pulling a permit on improvements and upgrades can come back and bite you in the ass when you decide to sell your house.

Just to be clear, we found a pig tail behind drywall when we tore a dividing wall out of the kitchen then we first moved in here. I don't anticipate finding much other stuff like that in the original wiring, or at least I hope I don't. I think I'll probably look into just adding the ground first. I haven't been able to locate the grounding block in the attic that the prior electrician mentioned.

we start with the pork shoulder and beef mix. With about 40ish pounds of meat its 2 handfuls salt, 2 handfuls red chili pepper, 2 handfuls of fennel, some garlic (depending on taste). That's just a simple Italian base, and adjust to taste for Italian. Add mustard seed or powder to make into a German sausage. After that you can either case it, or leave it bulk. This time we experimented and made Polish sausage and a Pepperoni as well. all turned out pretty good.

I just realized the glaring flaw in my plan to ground my outlets. Looks like that's not going to happen any time soon. I was thinking I could pull new wires up through the wall for each receptacle, forgetting that only one goes up to the box, and the rest are run around the room on the chain. So in order to do it correctly, I'd have to do a lot of drywall work as well. I don't think the increased value of the home would be worth the cost to redo drywall in each room, especially considering that I have plaster over drywall and it's not just a simple patch. I guess I'll do something else instead.
